Pack Your Bags! We are going to Las Vegas in February! Congratulations! Our hard work paid off and the Symphonic Chorus was chosen to represent the best of choral singing at the Western Division American Choral Directors Conference on Thursday, February 26 at 10:00 am in Las Vegas. Not only are we invited to sing, we are invited to Open the Convention! This is a huge honor, a tremendous opportunity, and a gigantic responsibility. Details.

"Congratulations, Everyone!!!!!!!!!!!! You're all doing so well! I appreciate the spirit of the rehearsals and how well people are preparing. I am a constant cheerleader for this and all my choirs and singers to the extent that I think people begin to take my comments for granted. Someone out there is listening! Thank you!

My joy in music-making is multiplied by each of you and what you bring to the rehearsal/performance process. Together we keep alive the ideas and insights brought to life by the magic of dots on a page translated into beautiful sound. We do it because we can't NOT do it. It is who we are.

Have a great day, everyone!"

Love, Cheryl

BLACK FOLDERS
Have you noticed the fancy black folders?

Alto section leader Dinah Phillips says about the black folders: "I highly recommend them. I find it much less tiring to hold music in those folders than in notebook type folders."

Last Spring's Performance with the Symphony of Carmina Burana
Our performance of Carmina Burana with the Santa Cruz Symphony was a triumph and brought out the largest audiences of the season! The chorus looked fantastic in medieval costumes and the children from the Cabrillo Youth Chorus performed with "winning style." Here is a link to Phyllis Rosenblum’s review in the Santa Cruz Sentinel. An excerpt:

"The chorus’s precise pronunciation and togetherness ensured forward momentum in the work’s many rhythmic staccato sections. Impressive dynamic contrasts — no mean feat with such a large body of singers — set musical phrases in sharp relief. Chorus sopranos sang with youthful simplicity in the love longings of "Floret silva" (the forest blooms)."

About Mechem & Songs of the Slave.

Did you sing the Brahms Requiem in Spring 2001? Many of us referred to an online version of the Brahms Text which included English translation, and spoken, audio German pronunciation. Or we began studying the Brahms Score Online
