COMPLIANCE AND ENFORCEMENT

The Division's Compliance and Enforcement staff monitor gambling operations within California and provide specialized investigative support to minimize criminal involvement. Special agents establish a field presence and monitor gambling operations to ensure they are in compliance with the law, bringing unsuitable persons to the attention of the Commission to assure they are not permitted to associate with gambling activities. Special Agents monitor the gambling establishments by:

  • Implementing routine inspections of gambling operations.
  • Targeting non-compliant gambling establishments.
  • Investigating suspected violations of the Gambling Control Act.
  • Safeguarding against embezzlement of gambling establishments profits and money laundering.
  • Ensuring the immediate preservation of the public health, safety, and welfare.
  • Investigating complaints lodged by the general public against licensees, or other persons associated with a gambling operation.
  • Coordinating multi-jurisdictional criminal investigations involving gambling establishments with local, state, and federal agencies.
  • Examining gambling equipment, audit papers, books, and records of the gambling establishment.

In addition, pursuant to its authority under existing Tribal-State compacts, the Division is responsible for recording and monitoring the transportation of all gaming devices, and ensuring all new slot machines meet established technical standards.
