This is the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services - Medicaid Information Site. Medicaid is a jointly-funded, Federal-State health insurance program for certain low-income and needy people. It covers approximately 36 million individuals including children, the aged, blind, and/or disabled, and people who are eligible to receive federally assisted income maintenance payments.

X Medicaid Fraud Statutes
The Medicaid Fraud Statutes web site is a product of the Medicaid Alliance for Program Safeguards. The project was designed as a means of sharing innovative and effective program integrity legislation. This web site contains a comprehensive listing of official State statutory citations that are used to prosecute civil or criminal fraud, or those used to maintain program integrity or to combat program abuse.

This is the official U.S. Government web site for Medicare information. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) administers Medicare, the nation's largest health insurance program, which covers 39 million Americans. Medicare provides health insurance to people age 65 and over and those who have permanent kidney failure and certain people with disabilities.

Nursing Home Compare includes information about California nursing homes obtained from the State's last inspections of the nursing homes.

X X Adult Protective Services
The Adult Protective Services (APS) program is supervised by the California Department of Social Services (CDSS) and administered locally by each county (most often the Department of Social Services). It provides assistance to elderly and dependent adults who are functionally impaired, unable to meet their own needs or are victims of abuse, neglect or exploitation.

The county APS receives reports of abuse and neglect of elderly and dependent adults residing in their own homes for investigation and evaluation of their need for protection and/or services. APS provides and/or coordinates support services for both emergency situations and longer-term case management.

This California Code of Regulations (CCR) web site contains the text of the regulations that have been formally adopted by state agencies, reviewed and approved by the Office of Administrative Law, and filed with the Secretary of State. The CCR consists of 26 titles and contains the regulations of approximately 200 regulatory agencies.

The Medical Board of California provides an avenue for consumers to verify a physician's licensing status, disciplinary actions that have been taken against physicians, and other public actions including certain types of malpractice or hospital disciplinary actions. As items of interest become available, the articles are added to the web site to provide information on how consumers can make better decisions regarding their health care.

X California State Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program
The California State Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program is authorized by the federal Older Americans Act and its state companion, the Older Californians Act. The primary responsibility of the program is to investigate and attempt to resolve complaints made by, or on behalf of, individual residents in long-term care facilities. These facilities include Skilled Nursing Facilities, Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly, Intermediate Care Facilities, Adult Residential Care Facilities, and Adult Day Health Care Facilities.

Association for Protection of the Elderly (APE) is dedicated to improving conditions for nursing home residents, giving residents a voice, educating residents and their families on nursing home issues concerning quality of care, and providing direction to legal resources.

California Advocates for Nursing Home Reform (CANHR) is a nonprofit consumer advocacy organization that makes information available on the records and services of all California nursing homes. CANHR also offers information on other long-term care options, estate planning and Medi-Cal for long-term care, pension rights, options for addressing poor care or abuse in nursing homes and other long-term care facilities, family council organizing, and long-term care reform legislation.

The California Association of Health Facilities (CAHF) is the non-profit, member-driven professional association for long-term care (LTC) in California. Its web site contains consumer information useful for understanding long-term care and for choosing a long-term health facility.

The California Association of Mental Health Patients' Rights Advocates (CAMHPRA) provides support to county patients' rights advocates and promotes the empowerment of mental health consumers.

California Registry is a free service offered to seniors or their family members to assist them in locating senior housing. California Registry can assist you in locating retirement homes, assisted living, board and care facilities, nursing homes, Alzheimer's units and home health care in California.

Congress of California Seniors is a nonprofit advocacy organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for seniors and families. The site is an excellent resource for current information concerning issues important to older adults and their families.

X ElderWeb: California
This site was developed by Karen Stevenson Brown, a CPA and a consultant with over 19 years of experience in long-term care, finance, and technology. ElderWeb has grown to include over 4,500 reviewed links to long-term care information, as well as an expanding library of articles and reports, news, and events. X Kansas Elder Law Network
The Kansas Elder Law Network (KELN), part of the Information Network of Kansas, is the nation's most comprehensive web site devoted to topics of interest to America's senior citizens and their advocates. Its databases are national in scope. KELN has been developed as a public service by Professors Kim Dayton and Molly Wood of the University of Kansas, and is affiliated with the University of Kansas Elder Law Clinic.

X National Health Care Anti-Fraud Association
Founded in 1985 by several private health insurers and federal/state law enforcement officials, the National Health Care Anti-Fraud Association (NHCAA) is a unique, issue-based organization comprising private- and public-sector organizations and individuals responsible for the detection, investigation, prosecution and prevention of health care fraud.
