Ethics Orientation for State Officials

California law requires state officials to complete an ethics training course every two years.

To help state officials meet this requirement, the Attorney General's Office and the Fair Political Practices Commission have developed the ethics training courses available here. State officials should check with their agency on specific ethics training requirements before taking the web course.

Use the links to the left to choose from the Interactive Ethics Course or text-only
Non-Interactive Course. The interactive version requires Netscape Navigator or Internet Explorer version 4.0 or higher. It is recommended that your monitor resolution be set at 800 x 600.

For those unable to access the web courses, a video ethics course is available. State officials viewing the video must review the written summary of law changes since the video tape was produced. Use the Video Tape link to request a copy or to get a summary of law changes.

For members of the State Bar of California, the interactive ethics training course is certified for two hours of self-study MCLE credit. It is the responsibility of the State Bar member to maintain records of self-study activity for satisfaction of MCLE requirements.
