Consumers
Business Registration
Under state law, the following business or corporations must register with the Department of Justice:
Credit Services Organizations. This applies to a person who sells or
provides services to improve a consumer's credit record, history or rating, which may include obtaining a loan or extension of credit for the consumer. Excluded are banks and finacial institutiions otherwise regulated by government.
Non-profit Corporations. Commonly known as charities, non-profit public benefit corporations must register and file annual finacial
reports.
Seller-Assisted Marking Plans. Persons selling business opportunities for initial payments of $500 to $50,000 must register with the Attorney General's Office prior to advertising or sales, unless otherwise liscensed or regulated.
Sellers of Travel. Sellers of travel may be travel agents, travel consultants, travel promoters, tour operations, consolidators, discounters, wholesalers and travel marketing account executives.
Telephonic Sellers. A seller soliciting business by telephone in
California is required to register with the state.
