"Just picked up the import for the new single, and in case you didn't know, there's some neat stuff on it.

When you load up the disk in a computer, it brings you to a screen with an image of the cover, and a menu to the right. From that menu you can choose to view the video in one of two sizes. The smaller size allows you to stop, rewind, pause, and change the volume on screen.

Below the videos is a button to view the album. This brings you to a large image of the album cover, with the contents of each disk (UK version, of course) listed on either side of the screen. There are selectable sound bites for Lovecats and Pictures of You off the proper album, and Why Can't I Be You and Friday I'm In Love from the acoustic disc.

Below the album button on the main menu is a button for lyrics. This is pretty neat. It brings up the lyrics, and while playing the song, it lights up the respective lines as they are sung, karaoke-style. Even better, you can click on any line in the song, and have it play immediately from that point forward.

While there isn't a whole lot on the disc, the presentation is fantastic, and it actually has some useful stuff on it outside the video. Hopefully the album (or at least the DVD) will have something similar, in lieu of a decent inlay.

As for the other two songs, well, they're great. Signal To Noise is straight-forward rock with a fair amount of feedback and a melody somewhat remeniscent of really old REM. The remix of Cut Here is much more sparse and melancholy, with more of a dance rhythm.

BTW, what little I managed to hear of the acoustic songs, they were much, much better than the MTV unplugged sessions. They really sound like they're enjoying themselves."

"The Danish TV station TV2 ZULU, http://zulu.dk/ has informed me, that there there will be a programme about The Cure Monday, November 12 at 22.30 (european time) in the programme "RAKETFART". Later on it will be possible to see the programme on the TV2 ZULU website.

I know about the programme because the TV station contacted me. They had found me because of my Cure dedicated website ONE HUNDRED YEARS. They wanted a Cure fan in the studio and they asked me to be in the programme untill they found out that I am almost the same age as Robert! Well, I did find it quite funny that they didn´t want to use me because of my age, because a lot of us who has followed The Cure for years and still is around DO get older ...just like The Cure :-) "

"Cut Here is now beeing played on austrian alternative radio station fm4: on 30th they played it in the evening and afterwards a jingle with Robert on the Phone saying "Hi, this is Robert from the cure, you´re listening to radio fm4 (he said "vier" in german and not four, nice). And this morning (31th), I heard it again. The DJ told us, that "the gothic boys who don´t cry" are fed up with major labels and that they will create a new band page - a "new age hippie comune" - where the fans can get the new stuff for free.

Also on www.msn.at they have "Sound of Halloween - Music & Videos to scare you" with the video of Lovesong (!!!) amongst "Wish" from NIN or "Thriller" from Jackson as Top Five of Shocking Sounds. Strange."

"I don't know if this has been mentioned on here before, but for whatever reason, i was watching Blast From The Past on TNN because it featured Christopher Walken and there is a scene in this strange bar with this cult of hippies worshipping Walken and his family, who they believe are some sort of gods and in the midst of all the shrines to them, there is Robert Smith's face torn out of a poster from the Wild Mood Swings / Galore era. I thought it was a really peculiar thing to notice, and thought I'd mention it."

The Cure, who we love dearly and shall never forget because they wrote a song called 'Apart' which makes us cry, release a brand new single today. It's true, and you better be happy.

Famed for splitting up all the time almost as much as they are for their frontman's inability to apply make-up properly, The Cure release 'Cut Here' today (Mon. October 29th) on two CDs and something else. And unsurprisingly, it's ace. In a 'Friday I'm In Love' does the Stone Roses kind of way. So go and buy it. Then sit back, jiggle your head about, and wait for the Greatest Hits LP, which comes out on November 12th. Along with 'Cut Here', it features another new song, 'Just Say Yes', a duet with - gah - Saffron of Republica and red hair fame. So that should be scary, at least. Due to the increasingly annoying import worries of record company people, the British and Japanese version of the LP will differ from the US release, but to placate fans the band have done the decent thing and included a bonus acoustic disc with the package, featuring newly recorded and live versions of all 18 tracks on the record. Hell yeah. Finally, a DVD is being prepared, which should excite the more technologically advanced amongst you. It sure does us anyway. On Monday I wished that it was Tuesday so... It's all Cuban music, and contains a video that consists of footage shot during a trip she took to Cuba. "Well, one thing is sure : I managed t get Robert's setlist at the end of the gig, and all these songs WERE in the set except the two last ones. I had been told by the person who let me in, that it would not be a concert but a short TV taping. So, I don't know what to tell you. The gig was about one-hour long. And they did an interview for Arte just after the show. And they were only electric. Sorry I forgot to mention that. And I could hear the soundchecks, and even in the soundchecks, everything was electric. Honestly, I would have loved to see them playing accoustic songs. The great thing was Simon helping people. When we were waiting outside before entering the place, I could see a window on the first floor, it was half open, and I saw that people were watching for us. I said a friend of mine "hey look, the band's watching us". I was joking. But I was told that the band saw more people than expected and Simon asked if it was possible to have everybody (maybe 20 extra people) enter. Again, I was told that. You may have another report confirming this.

Something I forgot to mention : at the end of the show, Robert said "Thank you very much, see you..." 1) next week? 2) next year? Personnaly I heard next week, and other people could hear next year. I don't know. Now I hope they will broadcast the complete show. I wish they played Cut here, however..."

"I just wanted to write in a and let you know that Robert was interviewed on 91X in San Diego during "Resurrection Sunday". I didn't get to catch the whole interview, but here are a few excerpts that I did manage to catch:

- Robert mentioned a possible 4 CD Box Set "Anthology" in the future that would encompass the entire "Greatest Hits" of The Cure.

- Robert was asked what the "one" definitive Cure song was to him, and he stated that there were far to many just to choose one, but recently it was when he recorded and listened to "Out of This World" that gave him the inspiration and desire to go on with The Cure and make music. Robert said that if he had to pick 2 songs that defined the 2 styles of music that The Cure made they would be "Disintigeration" (the dark gloomy side), and "Just Like Heaven" (the great pop song side).

- The DJ asked Robert about the various line up changes in the group over the years, and Robert commented that that he was completely happy with the current line up and that they had now been together for about 7 years.

- At the end of the interview Robert was asked about his statement that the last tour was their "last", and he laughed and said that he was going to stop saying anything about the "end" of The Cure or the "Last" time they would do anything. He jokingly said the he was going to start to reefer to The Cure in parts (this being part one), and that the second part would happen sometime in 2025. Robert again mentioned that the tour for Bloodflowers was his favorite, and at the end of the tour he thought to himself that he enjoyed it too much for it to be the last time they toured.

Unfortunatly I only caught about the last 10 minutes of the interview, so I am not sure what else was said during the beginning. The interview must have been pre-recorded because between the different parts of the interview they would stop to play a Cure song. After the end of the interview the DJ mentioned the upcomming "Greatest Hits" and played "Cut Here" and "Lets go to Bed" back to back."

"There's a very long (25 minutes!) and candid interview with Robert available at AOL's music station. I'm not sure how to get there (or even if you can get there at all) if you're not an aol user. AOL users should hit Keyword: Music, then choose Rock: Alternative from the "Choose music styles" menu. There you'll find a picture of Robert and a blurb about the interview under the heading "Cure Thyself."

Robert talks (and talks and talks!) about his issues with the timing of the new album; mentions 5 new songs which point to a new all-original cure album; addresses why making music with the band will be more fun without a major-label contract; and apparently for the first time publicly announces having recorded (along with the band) something for an upcoming British comedy show. "We've actually recorded something for a comedy show without telling anyone, even the record companies cuz that's where the leaks always come from. It's actually going to be out in the UK very shortly..." "Cut Here" plays in its entirety when the interview is over.

I thought this was a kickass interview. Robert sounds clear, direct, revealing, and sincere; it's more than just a rehash of the stuff we already know. He alludes to "the fans" several times in ways that I found very touching. I've had AOL for about 7 years and have never checked the music station before; I was just bored this morning and thought I'd see if they have any good radio. Guess I picked the right day! "

Does anyone know a way to get this without joing the ultra-evil conglomerate AOL? If not, I guess we'll have to use one of those "2000 hours free" discs that seem to pop up everywhere. : )

The British rock group "The Cure" will not renew their contract with their record company. Instead, they intend to distribute their music using the internet. Smith added that in the group's official website (www.thecurecom) new music will be distributed at a small scale for the duration of one year, "For those who are especially interested". According to Smith, the fiscal situation of the band allows it to distribute its music for free.

Smith has much criticism towards the big record companies. "Our latest Album, Bloodflowers, did not get the promotion it deserved. Last year we performed in front of half a million spectators, but the record companies did not care. All they cared was that we had made money for them"

The fans should not be worried. According to Smith, the band intends to go on tour this summer in festivals and small music halls. In addition, a collection of singles is about to be released."

Well, I got the opportunity to reach the private TV show rehearsal tonight in Paris. And guess what, after 14 years of cure fanatism, I finally got to talk to Robert himself. How amazing, the play was only singles, including the just say yes duet with Saffron, but a few fans stayed in the street in front of the "Reservoir" (near la Bastille) and wait until the band get out. And we got the chance to see Simon, Jason, Perry and Roger getting out first, taking time to sign some stuff for fans, and discuss a bit, before entering a big van and leaving the place.

Few minutes later, it was the turn of Robert, and he really took time to have some discussion with fans, and I personaly asked him about the way he intends to set their website release thing for the upcoming album/or titles. He seemed to be very enthusiastic about this question, and promised we will have great surprises with a new site completely redone and ready to distribute music... He was just worrying about the internet download time required when you got slow internet connection, and seemed to be really concerned with digital phones internet connection ?! Well this part was not very clear to me, since I'm not the best in english, and the other people were making some noise trying to get things signed by Robert... Nevertheless I just suggest he could call me if he will need some technical support for their upcoming website !

Very unbelievable night, hard to believe for the moment, still trying to re-think of this time... Just before he entered the van, I got the chance to ask him, if he was happy with the parisian audience, and he seemed to just answer he was just happy to play everywhere these days... Hoping to see you next year, during some summer festivals... Robert also is likely to come back to Paris in two weeks to perform some more interviews, and perhaps give an interview to the new french fanzine called "voodoo smiles", there is also a website dedicated to this fanzine floating around, just have a look ! They were so great! The show started about 30 minutes later than expected. I've heard at the end that Simon helped people w/o tickets enter the place. So it was possible to attend the show even with no ticket. The setlist, as expected, included songs from the new compilation. Starting with Just Like Heaven was a good idea, the audience was just crazy.Very good version, by the way. Close to me had good lyrics. Lullaby was pretty slow but very good, too, Robert playing with cameramen. He announced Lgtb saying "we haven't played it for long", with a face that almost said "sorry we have to play it, it's on our new record!" Lovesong was very good, very powerful. A forest... yes, A forest! Great solo at the end. Friday I'm in love, hmmm, I was very happy to hear it live again. Ray played the guitar on Boys don't cry with Robert. The two men seemed to be old friends, that was funny. Robert asked him to come and play with the band. Just say yes is a fantastic song, even better than Cut here I think (this is my opinion). Saffron seemed very happy to be here. The walk: I think Simon played the real bass line in the middle the way it is on the album, for the first time. Interesting version. I may be wrong, however... Why can't I be you: as usual, Robert was very happy to sing that one.

The general mood was fantastic, you could see how happy the band was to be on stage. The other interesting thing was that that gig was so different from the Bloodflowers shows... The singles were back again in the setlist. Well, I've always loved them, but I think today I love them more. Thanks Robert, Simon, Perry, Jason and Roger, I had such a great time! Ahhh, sweet dreams now, for sure ;) - Bruno"

"It is..... the cover (obviously) and a few pages on the inside that are in greyscale of the background with stars, and on every page 3 song titles with their publishing date, personnel, etc. that's it! then the back is a close up one of the stars with the track listing at the top of the page in that font. there is no track listing of the bonus disc, except on the disc itself."

"I've managed to get my hands on a copy of the acoustic greatest hits set, and I thought I'd pass along my initial thoughts on hearing the revamped versions of the songs.

The entire disc has a very informal, "you are there" feel to it, much more so than the MTV Unplugged performance. The Unplugged rehearsal clips from "Play Out" might be a more apt point of comparison. The quiet but playful way that many of the songs come across almost reminds me of the "Paris" version of "Close To Me". All of the songs seem to have been mixed in more or less the same way, with Robert's vocals right at the front, and give off a very warm yet clean sound. Not all of the songs suit the acoustic treatment perfectly, but I don't think that any of them really suffer from it.

"The Walk" is definitely one of the set's highlights, even though Boris doesn't go crazy with a kazoo this time around. "Just Like Heaven" and "Cut Here" also come across very well.

Robert seems to be having a great time throughout the set, adding a few goofy vocal flourishes here and there. His take on the phone conversation towards the end of "Wrong Number" (which works as a whole despite appearing the least "acoustic friendly" of the tracks) is actually quite hilarious.

All in all, the acoustic set is exactly the sort of fun "bonus prize" that will make "Greatest Hits" worth buying for die-hards. Robert mentioned that the "Greatest Hits" track list seemed to focus on the more "up" and happy points in The Cure's career, and the acoustic set definitely brings out the fun and joy in the songs we love so much."

"I got some good news about Cut here airing over italian radio. This morning I tuned in the rock & alternative Italian station Rock FM and stumbled over a sort of request programme. I quickly sent them an e-mail requesting Cut Here and inciting the radio station to play it more often, cuz I still hadn't catched it on any Italian station, but I expected to hear it at least over this one cuz they had been great last year at the time of "Out Of this World" and "Maybe Someday". Quite soon the dj read my e-mail on air and instantly put on " Cut Here", playing it with no interruptions, too. He also added that the song was already in rotation, so I'd suggest any (Italian esp.) Cure fan to go to www.radiorockfm.com and send in your request."

"Three Imaginary Boys seems to have been re-issued on vinyl in Russia. It is released on a label called "Au/On" situated i Stk. Petersburg. Judging from that and the fact that the back side of the cover and the center label are completly different from the Fiction edtions, I feel quite sure that it is a bootleg of some sort. However, it is sold from entirely ordinary and "legal" shops in England and other places in Europe, so that adds a bit to the mystery. The track list is the usual one apart from a missing "The weedy Burton". All titles etc. are reprinted in cyrilic letters below the english dittos - both on the front and the back of the cover and on the inner label (it looks quite weird) The back side and the label is plain yellow (no pictures at all) with black types, so in that sense it differs a lot as well. And by the way.....the actual types are not the same as on the official and the good old The Cure logo is also missing. The sound quality leaves a lot to be desired. "

The Cure, Robert Smith plan Net-only releases

The Cure's upcoming best-of set will be the band's last major label release, as the group experiments with making its music available through the Internet.

Leader Robert Smith told JAM! Music that The Cure's major-label contract has expired and he's in no hurry to climb back into bed with a big record company.

"I have grown pretty tired of having to ask six people (at a label) whether I can do something," Smith said by telephone from his home in England.

"I am in my 40s. It is starting to grate. The spontaneity has disappeared. I thought with the state of the Internet, it is the perfect opportunity for me and the band to do stuff, without consulting."

Once promotional obligations for The Cure's "Greatest Hits" set (released by in Canada by Warner Music on Nov. 13) have been met, Smith and company will experiment with using the 'Net for releasing new material.

"I think that is a fantastic thing to be able to do," he explained.

"I don't want to just sign to someone for the sake of it. Everything is too slow. Too corporate. I will see how things go. We will have a year away from (the labels) and see how things go," he said, adding that the group hasn't worked out the specifics of how the official website (www.thecure.com) will make the music available.

"We are in the process of thinking how we are going to work it ... we are thinking we could remain unsigned, but do our own music on a very small level, for people who are into it," he said, adding that he's fortunate enough to be in a position where there isn't a strong need to make money off a Net-only release.

"I am in a position materially where it doesn't make a difference if I put up free music. It is not going to make or break what I or the band does," he said.

"I am not sure in the long term if anything will remain that free, because the more you read about how they are going to send the Internet along cables, it is who controls the cable and who controls the flow of information that determines it. You can have whatever you want at your website, but if no one can get there without paying, it isn't free."

Smith traces his disenchantment with the big record companies to a gradual change in thinking that climaxed with the label's handling of the group's last studio album, "Bloodflowers," which he says was "tragically under-promoted."

"Last year, we played to over half a million people, but the record companies did not know where we were on any given Friday, you know? They were not that interested. We made them money, and that was it. There was no one genuinely enthusiastic," he said.

"The music business has never been that great a business, but when I started out, it was more dysfunctional. It was much more fragmented. You could do things relatively fast and get away with it. Nowadays, it is pretty horrendous. The way everything is niche-marketed drives me mad."

As an example of how the industry has changed, Smith says he doesn't own any of The Cure's past recordings in North America. Rights to the music in other territories revert back to the band over time, but North American rights to his music are owned by the label "in perpetuity, because of some f--king ridiculous law they passed a few years ago."

"It was something the RIAA (the Recording Industry Association Of America, the major labels' lobby group) put through. It is so anti-artist, it is incredible. It almost defies belief. I don't own any past Cure material, full-stop, in North America. It reverts back in the rest of the world, but that doesn't help me."

What exactly will constitute Smith's next recordings is also up in the air. He says the group has recorded four new songs, but he has also been working on a solo project that will see him collaborating with a handful of outside artists (although he declines to name them).

Smith said he has prepared two versions of each song earmarked for the solo project, with each version set in a different tempo.

"I'm not sure whether to mix and match them or pick one and discard the other," he said. "It is so easy. I am doing it inside a computer, so that part is good fun. I can just slow the tempo down using different sets of sounds and tweaking things. You kind of get lost in it.

"And I don't have to ditch any of (the music). I can just upload it if I think it is good enough. We don't have to schedule a release four months in advance. It will be quite weird for me to drop the habits of that life."

He likened the competing solo and Cure projects to "a three-legged race -- whoever crosses the line first" will be the next release.

Whatever releases Smith and The Cure come up with in the coming year, the group is hoping to hit the road by late summer next year -- just for the fun of it, because they won't be tied to a major-label release schedule.

"We can just play festivals or small shows. It allows us to be more flexible."

"It's oct 24 and been calling Kroq all month requesting cut here, however they don't play it...I spoke to disk jockey Tammy Heide (she's a known cure fan) and asked her why weren't they playing the new song. she replied that the program manager felt it did not fit their program..I said when did the cure ever fit any mainstream programming..I further related that if the cure had announced a promo show Kroq would be the first to capitilize on the cure and playing cut here..She said she was sorry and that she would play one of their older stuff during her flash back lunch program...It's ridiculous that Los Angeles is not playing the new song (which is a good song) but they will play the sorry ass new song by no doubt, so poppy. And we know no doubt worships the cure..go figure...It's funny how our local alternative station is so mainstream.. might as well be called K-Kiss 106.7even-11."

"Firstly a reminder about The Cureheads playing in Chicago @ The VicTheatre on November 1st. Still a few tickets left at www.ticketmaster.com and www.victheatre.com . Unfortunately both shows in Tulsa Oklahoma have been cancelled due to the venue being sold on to a dance promoter who is not interested in live music. As yet no other shows are planned this time around. Chicago is the last gig that The cureheads will play for a while. "Last night I had my own Cure experience. Listening to THE Dutch Alternative Radiostation KINK FM, I suddenly heard the dj say something about The Cure. He would play one number of Pornography at half past seven and the listeners could e-mail him their favorite number of that album. I ran upstairs and while typing my e-mail at 28 minutes past seven, my friend heard him saying, that we should stop mailing him, because he was receiving too many. "Hello, my name is Jessie and I am the dj who did the interview with Robert Smith on KDGE in Dallas on Tuesday October 16. I was floored to see the info posted on your site. So I am writing to let you know that I will forward the complete transcript to you on Monday as Robert and I had a magnificent interview which was forty five minutes long and it is going to take me a little while to get it all properly transcribed for you. I am happy to provide some of the highlights for you now as a succulent little appetizer and actually I owe a debt of gratitude to Chain of Flowers because your site came up 5 or 6 times in the course of the interview. I have relied on your site for the juicy news I give on the Cure in the course of my show. So,here are a few tidbits from the interview.

We talked about Her Majesty the Queen granting an honorary knighthood to the Mayor of New York. I told him that as an heartbroken American I was compelled to thank him on behalf of all Americans for this beautiful gesture by the Queen. Robert spoke very eloquently on the bond between England and America and in the course of the discussions about the September 11th tragedy he said "life is so terribly short" we should all do our best to live life to its fullest.

He also spoke of the devastating inspiration for Cut Here which was inspired by the suicide of someone he loved very dearly...He never got to say I love you or Goodbye to this person before it was too late... and this song was his way of wrestling with those feelings.

We also bonded over our mutual belief in extraterrestrials, he said he believed in life on other planets but "NOT that they come down here to cut up cows".

He spoke of his love of the Pink Pig project and also talked of a "brilliant" Cuban Cure cover band who he was really impressed with...

There are so many lovely things he said in the course of the interview. I will get that transcribed for you and sent out on Sunday. Thank you for your website I find it so helpful in the course of my daily show prep."

Robert Smith Interview on Chicago radio station 94.7 The Zone (Oct. 16th, 2001)

James: I'm James VanOsdol and joining me on the phone...it's Robert Smith of the Cure. And Robert, apparently rumors of the Cure's demise were greatly exaggerated?

Robert: Yeah, mainly by me.

James: As of right around the time of Bloodflowers you were saying that The Cure was pretty much calling it a day and you were even entertaining the idea of a solo project.

Robert: Yeah. That hasn't been ruled out. In fact I'm almost certain that that will be the next thing that I do. But the problem with the Bloodflowers promotion stuff was post-album, pre-tour. And I felt very differently when I finished the tour last year. We played for seven months last year, and I would have played more. I loved it. I thought it was my best year with the band. It was compounded by doing this acoustic version of the Greatest Hits album this summer, which was really good fun. So I'm really enthusiastic about the band again, so I don't really see a point in calling it a day yet.

James: And here you are with this greatest hits...you've been playing in one shape or form, in one way or another, for 25 years. I'd imagine it would be pretty daunting to go into your library and say "which are the best songs to represent our years together?"

Robert: Well I was constrained by...they were going to be picked from the singles, that much I knew. I think there have been 37 or 8 singles now. So I had to discard every other one pretty much. It was difficult getting down to the final running order. The first ten kind of pick themselves, and then I really had to fight for my inclusions because everyone had their own opinion as to...I don't think I found a single person that's agreed with me. That's the beauty of being the boss. You get to have the final say.

James: Along those lines, I suppose Galore and Staring at the Sea kinda flushed out some of the things that were omitted on the Greatest Hits, like 10:15 Saturday Night or Fascination Street...

Robert: Originally, when this project was suggested to us, I wanted the Staring at the Sea and the Galore albums, the two singles compilations, just to be kind of bound together and released as a double CD as a greatest hits because that would please everyone in a way. And yet, I discovered that that would please no one. It had to be reduced down to a single CD for various reasons, none of them very artistic, I would add. But I'm happy that I stuck with it and got my way, because I think it's a good representation of that side of The Cure. I don't think in any way it represents what I've been up to for the last 25 years. I think it's a small but significant part of what we have done.

James: Well lets talk about the acoustic tracks, you mentioned that. Here you are, going song by song doing new versions of the greatest hits. Tell me, what was the inspiration to do that? Was that just kind of a way to bring a new spin to all these songs?

Robert: It was mainly driven by the early realization that fans would probably be less than enthusiastic about a greatest hits album, because we, as fans, are ourselves. Even with the inclusion of a couple of new songs, you still kind of feel that most fans will have most of those songs already. So, we were trying to think of a way that we could make the project more exciting, both for them and for us, and the acoustic album seemed like a good idea. It also made the whole thing more worthwhile for us because we got to reinterpret some of our songs and it's just good fun. We did it all in one go, in the order that you hear it. It's a bit like a mini-acoustic concert without an audience. We recorded it so it pretty much mixed itself. So what you hear is what we played. We gave ourselves two go's at each song and picked the one that we thought was the better performance. But it was a very long day...and I think it slightly tails off towards the end, as one or two members of the band sounded a little bit the worse for wear.

James: And Boris played with you on these tracks?

Robert: Yeah, we started rehearsing a couple of weeks in advance of recording, and it quickly dawned on us that as a five-piece, we were kind of lacking that drive. So we got Boris back to hit some weird percussion stuff. And it really did make a difference. It kind of brought that whole rhythmic side alive. I think when you do that acoustic stuff it sort of become, if anything, more important, those little percussive touches.

James: Along the lines of a greatest hits, is there one album in your 25 year library that you look at and say, "You know it's not really a greatest hits album, but it sure sounds like it to me?" One of those albums that you think song for song is as good a representation of The Cure as it can get.

Robert: That's tough because I've never thought the Cure as really one band. With the various line-up changes, and also the way I've changed, it always feels like at least five bands that I've been in. I would honestly say that if I had to pick one to save out of all the ones I've made, it would be Bloodflowers. It would be the last one we did because I felt that lyrically and musically, that was the most accomplished, and actually represents most how I feel at the moment. But it would because it's the most recent. And I'm not trying to promote it. I'm being very honest. I think the three that I would keep, if I could keep three, they would be Bloodflowers, Disintegration and Pornography. I think they're the three albums that mean the most to me. But then the Kiss Me, Kiss Me album is probably the album, that in some ways, I'm fondest of because it was fantastic fun making it, and that was actually like the breakthrough album for us. They all mean something to me for different reasons. It's very hard. I mean they're not the kind of albums that have just been released because that's what I did. Each album came out for a very specific reason and I felt something very particular at that time. So...it's tough. The first Cure album is the only one I would quite happily forget about. The rest of them I've really enjoyed.

James: It's interesting that you mentioned Bloodflowers, Pornography and Disintegration, because when Bloodflowers came out, it was really being heralded as the third piece to that puzzle.

Robert: Yeah, I think that's why with the greatest hits, it's a representation of one facet of The Cure. And like I've said, it's a small but significant part. It's kind of the public face of the group...to the general public. But really, the heartbeat of The Cure is contained in those three albums, I think.

James: What's next Robert? Is this the end? Will we see you on stage again?

Robert: Yeah. I'm pretty sure you will. I think my tact on this round of promotion is that we're going to be going for at least another ten years, something along those lines.

James: I've got to say, a Cure show... I've seen you a dozen times. When you guys go on stage, you play for real. You play...I can see calendar pages flying by because once you get on and start playing, you don't finish until you do it all on stage.

Robert: Yeah. I must say, I think that last year completely changed my mind about the band. It was the best touring year that we've ever had. I thought the shows were great and the audiences were fantastic. I mean, the response was just unreal. I think it would be pretty foolish for me to walk away from that.

James: Well you know we love you in Chicago, Robert

Robert: Yeah, I most certainly do know that.

James: Well thank you for calling in. The Greatest Hits comes out next month with the acoustic CD, which is absolutely a must have session. We do hope to see you back on stage here in town.

He mentioned that they are still working on the dvd at the moment and are pushing up against the deadline to get it done. There will be some easter eggs hidden in the disc, but many of the things they wanted to include are tied up in copyright problems. So instead, they are going to put up a new website in connection with the Hits release and they hope to include a lot of things that they wanted to put out commercially, but were unable to. He joked that if anyone complained about them being on a website, that all they'd have to do is take it down. In other words, download everything you can on the first day, just in case it gets removed. : )

All in all, some really good stuff from the WOXY interview about the internet, computers, home recording, the effect that Mogwai has had on him, how bad the music industry has become, and a nice little shot at Elektra. The WLIR interview was ok, but your typical "fluff" radio bit with the standard questions.

"Firstly I must apologize to The Cure and their fans for mis-titling and dating The Wish album in my preview contained within The Belfast Gig Guide.

Secondly , I must say that I was taken aback by the professionality and authenticity of what must now be one of the world's best and most realistic tribute shows. I wiped away many a tear from my eye during the 2hours that followed the shuffling entrance of The Cureheads onto a smoke filled stage. The Cureheads took me to places that I hadn't revisited for a long while.

"Strange Day" took me back to the early part of the 80's when we had a strange Gothic Guy called Decklan who used to DJ at the Tuesday Youth Club Disco.

"Torture" took me back to jumping around my bedroom using a tennis racket as a guitar, just after my older brother bought the "Kiss me Kiss Me" Album then gave me a dead leg when I wore out the grooves on Just like heaven.

After about 1 hr of various B-Sides,Album Tracks and a screaming rendition of "Banana Fishbones" a young guy next to me was heard to shout over the already manic crowd, " Play something we know !" Cue (huge jazz funk hit ),"Lets GoTo Bed. "

From this point the hits spilled forth one after the other , the crowd becoming louder & louder, the dancing becoming faster & harder. The Cureheads bass player sweating and lurching lower and lower as he gyrated his bass guitar emulating "low slung bass hero", Simon Gallup.

After a gut wrenching 15 minute version of "A Forest" (which in true Tribute to THE CURE) switched to 16 bars of "Faith" then back into a Strobe driven wall of Forest guitars that has become a Cure tradition, followed The Old disco favorite " Boys Dont Cry". The group of youngsters to my left erupted into an absolute frenzy as Gary Ash and his Cureheads launched into "something they knew!"

A truly magnificent night was had by all. Personally I could have stood another 2 hrs from this awesome tribute. I have seen many tributes come and go from the Limelight but none as closely worked or who pay as much tribute to their mentors than THE CUREHEADS. They will return to The Limelight in February for their farewell tour. I will be there with my tennis racket --------Guy Rod."

Robert Smith, enigmatic frontman of The Cure, says that those who have waited patiently for a definitive greatest hits package won’t be disappointed. "Say this is it - don’t say maybe, don’t say no...," says Smith. The album is an all-encompassing Cure retrospective culled from the band’s 33 commercial single releases, featuring songs from every era of their illustrious 23 year career.

On Tuesday, Oct. 2nd, Steve (forgot his last name, but did 80s "Resurrection" show here in San Diego on 91X and now DJs at new 80s/Mix stations 95.7) played Cut Here back-to-back with Friday Im in Love. It's a great tune, very electronic and upbeat. Liked it quite a bit. And Steve, as one can tell since Bloodflowers, is a big Cure fan..."

Just read on a cure site (www.chainofflowers.com) that XFM will be playing the Curve remix of 'Just Say Yes' (the new Cure single with Saffron) during Claire's show. i don't remember hearing about curve doing this remix (on either this site or the cure site). did this happen or is this mis-information? thanks.

Yes Curve have done a remix of a new Cure song called "Just say yes" which is a duet with Saffron. As far as we are aware there is no plan to release this song as a single but both Dean and I are confident that Robert will find some way of using the remix because he loves it. As for XFM playing it we have no idea but we think that it's very nice of Claire to give it an airing and take it as a massive compliment..Nice one..Cheers

"On Sunday 30th of September, I was looking through the Sunday Times Style Magazine's fashion special, when I noticed a Cure reference. In an article about the latest styles saying "real life goths have seen their nocturnal dress code turned into a fashion statement", various catwalk shows were reviewed and apparently one of them, the Marc collection, was "...all shown with super-skinny jeans and full tiered skirts to a soundtrack by The Cure."

The next day I was watching Never Mind The Buzzcocks, a music quiz show British terrestrial TV's BBC2. The teams were given parts of lyrics and had to finish the line. One of the teams was given "10.15 on..." and they answered correctly with "...a Saturday night". It's always nice to hear references to The Cure, but two in as many days was pleasantly unexpected...hopefully there will be plenty more with the release of the new single."
