Established by Penal Code section 11174.4, the CANRA Task Force reviewed the state Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and issued this report on the value of the Child Abuse Central Index in protecting children and provides various recommendations for changes.

Required by state law, the annual report provides information on all forfeitures of assets from illegal drug activities initiated throughout the state during calendar year 2002. The report also includes the number of cases for which forfeiture was ordered or declared, the value of assets and recipients of forfeited assets.

Attorney General's Civil Rights Commission: Reporting Hate Crimes (2001) - [PDF 152k 46 pg]
This report by the Attorney General's Civil Rights Commission on Hate Crimes makes various findings and outlines 16 recommendations to improve the reporting of hate crimes in local communities, in schools and by law enforcement agencies. In preparing the report, members of the Commission visited nearly two dozen diverse communities throughout California. The Commission heard from various members of the community, including students, seniors, people with disabilities, parents and working families.

The criminal justice system is relying increasingly on new technologies and other forensic science advances. This report by the Attorney General's Task Force on Forensic Sciences assesses the current status of California's crime laboratories and identifies steps that should be taken to ensure that the state has the capacity and expertise to delivery timely and accurate forensic services.

DNA Forensic Technology Solving Crimes - The California Department of Justice operates the largest working DNA data bank in the country. Charts show crime-solving matches now averaging one "cold hit" a day.

A legislatively mandated report describing the criminal activities of organized crime groups, gangs, criminal extremists, and terrorists in California.

Petris Center Report on Nonprofit Hospital Closures [PDF 256k 25pg]
Commissioned by the Attorney General, this report, "California's Closed Hospitals, 1995-2000," provides the first close look at hospital closures statewide. The study by the recently created Petris Center on Health Care Markets and Consumer Welfare at the University of California, Berkeley, focuses on reasons for the hospital closures, distribution of the closed facilities and the characteristics of the closed hospitals.

Post-conviction DNA Testing Task Force Report. - [PDF 494k 20pg]
Prepared by the Postconviction Testing/Evidence Retention Task Force, this report provides information on compliance with a new state law requiring governmental entities, including the courts, to retain evidence after a conviction in felony cases in a manner suitable for DNA testing.
