Frederick N. Howser, 22nd Attorney General

Frederick N. Howser Born in Nebraska on April 11, 1905. Prior to being elected to Attorney General, he served two terms as Assembly member for the 71st District, then was appointed District Attorney for Los Angeles County. During his tenure as Attorney General, at the outbreak of the Korean War, Howser worked to step up efforts to improve communication between Washington and the West. CLETS (California Law Enforcement Telecommunications System) was evolved, providing over 700 enforcement and criminal justice agencies access to the computer files in the DOJ, DMV and the Nat'l Crime Information Center. He was married to Helen Sten, and had one son. Died April 26, 1987, in Orange County.
