Generating random names

General

Thank you for using RPG names! Here are some brief general notes about the application: Each random generation rolls five unique names. The names are randomly drawn from five different buckets (virtualy speaking). These buckets of names are generated at application launch, from a XMF file "fantasy.xml" that comes with RPG names. This also means that you can create your own random name files, or even better yet: create your own name XML files for different gaming genres and share them with other users of RPG names! For recent updates on the application, and other XML name files, please visit RPG names.

Character Name generation

Choose gender and race and press the "Generate" Button. The default choice (i.e. when You dont active choose anything) is names for a male human. The races and names available are generated from the file "fantasy.xml" in your Documents/text/xml directory.

Place name generation

Choose place and press the "Generate" Button. Of the two roll-down menues, only one will be active at a time. Having two roll-down menues seperates geographical places from others. As with the racenames described above, the various places and random naming tables are created from the file fantasy.xml.

Howto create and import your own XML name files

In future versions of RPG names it will be possible to load new name generating XML files via the GUI. At present, the parsed configuration file is loaded at application launch, however RPG names remembers your last XML file selection. To parse a different XML document with names for races and places, start RPG names from a terminal with your XML file as argument to the program. For a complete description of the XML syntax and examples, please visit RPG names

Distribution
