From The Laughin Man:
"First the Setlist: A very short Intro with the first chords of Shake dog Shake, sinking, lullaby, than, to my suprise the first part of an Interview (about why they playing "Special Festivals places" this summer) wrong number, 100 years, (2nd part of the interview about the new album and about galore) friday im in love, 10:15, just like heaven, Killing an Arab;
I must say im very sad about these short set, but anyway the interview was a good suprise (nothing new about the next record, Robert just say that they have recorded new Demos, and why they didnt play new songs this summer - because of Internet Bootlegs)
Sinking - very good version, Roberts sounds really good, but, as always this summer a very lazy guitar playing by mister smith.
lullaby- good as always
Wrong Number - this song live is a thousend times better then the studio version, good performance with a Voice Sample at the end ("sorry you got the Wrong Number").
100 years -great version + great Camera work- during the Song you can see Smith´s Face and how he scream´s his heart out. Also good guiater work at the end by Robert.
friday - always good to hear, at the end of the song robert lost his text and laughs - very funny
10:15 good as always - Great guitar solo by Perry
Just like heaven - juh juh Version - good as well, Simon jumps like a jumping jack!
Killing an Arab- very good, i liked these new heavyer Version so much, during the Solo, Roberts Guitar is a little bit to quiet.
All in all a good Video to watch it over and over again! Not so good and Interesting as the Bizarre shot, but its worth the time.
- they didn´t show the complete Concert - not the right order - very layzy crowd, its boring to watch them - stand there and ... do nothing at all
+ the Interview + 100 Years has very good Camera work +Roberts Voice
is very well"
From Dennis:
"Bavarian TV did show the following songs in this order: Sinking Lullaby Wrong number Never enough 100 years Friday I'm in love 10.15 Saturday night Just like heaven Killing an Arab
Inbetween, they did show 2 short snips of an interview with Robert,
nothing interesting though. Only thing was, that Robert said again, that
they didn't play any new stuff due to the internet, as stuff is available
so fast now to everyone, that they don't need to release it."

A quick update before heading to the
Depeche Mode show here in New Orleans tonight.
"theres an article about the Cure's new release (great info)
in the JAN 99 issue of Alternative Press (anticipated albums of '99 w/
rage on the cover.) i suggest you check it out. Robert describes the new
album as "loud and dark." "it sounds like old fashioned
Cure; it falls into the canon alongside Pornography and Disintegration."
new songs include "Fall", "Side by Side" and "Just
Say Yes" release date: Spring 1999."

"Once again, I phoned Bayern 3 up and what a surprise: they've
really changed their mind or whatever...!! They are just showing 45 minutes
of the Taubertal performance, although they told us that they will broadcast
the entire show, just a few weeks ago. Anyway, this time they said that
the reason for this "short" broadcast is that there were many
technical problems during the gig. The stage-light went out at the beginning
and due to hardware-failure The Cure had to fight against many feed-backs.
That is why there are just about 10 songs that are worth showing. In-between
there'll be some excerpts from an interview with Robert. Sorry for this
bad news, but let's enjoy tomorrow's broadcast anyway, alright...?!"

[14:18] <Moderator1> 28canney says:rnReeves: How's your new solo album coming along? Near completion yet?
[14:18] <db\band\bReeves> Reeves: It's about four songs away
from being tracked and it's got David and Robert
Smith, Frank Black, Dave Grohl, Danny Saber and also David wants
me to mention again that David is on it as well. David says David's doing
all the guitar playing.
"The only thing interesting this day was the concert of CURIOSITY...There weren't a lot of sellers , and not really a lot of Cure fans. But the band was excellent, there were two parts, the first one at 12.15 pm and the second at 14.15 pm, they played two hours.
CURIOSITY strated the gig with "Shake Dog Shake", "Fascination street", "One hundred years", "Lullaby", "Sinking", "Just like heaven"(the YOU, YOU, version...thanks a lot Vincent!), "The holy hour", "Cold", "M", "From the edge of the deep green sea".They even played "Grinding halt", "Play for today", "All cats are grey", "Siamese Twins", "Lament", "Piggy in the mirror", "Close to me", "Why can't i be you?", "Disintegration", "Cut", "A forest", and "Forever".
It was brilliant, they are so near from the real Cure! It was great
, i really have fun , it reminds me of the real concerts. This is the third
time i saw them and i will go everywhere they will play, really! And you
should do the same!"

"I just read in a big german tv-magazine that BAYERN3 will broadcast
the Taubertal Festival on Nov.17th at 23:55 until 0:40, so that will be
only 45 minutes. I've checked this on the Bayern3 videotext programme info,
it says the same! If this is correct, i'd be quite disappointed, they told
us they would broadcast the complete show!"

BILLBOARD SPOTLIGHT: GERMANY'S GLOBAL REACH
On The Road: Top Promoters Guided Tours Through '98 And Look To Book '99 (November 14, 1998)
BY WOLFGANG SPAHR
After a few years of stagnation, the German concert scene came back to life in 1998 with a string of tours by top international stars and some spectacular live events. Germany's leading concert promoters, meanwhile, are more actively presenting tours beyond their home territory.
The majority of Germany's promoters were satisfied with business this year and have made considerable investments to organize even more successful tours, both in Germany and international markets, in the coming year.
Here are capsule reports on 1998 activity and expectations for the year ahead from key German concert promoters:
Company: Peter Rieger Konzertagentur
Headquarters: Cologne
Owner: Peter Rieger
Strongest shows in 1998: The Three Tenors in Paris (drawing 250,000),
Luciano Pavarotti (opening the new KölnArena in Cologne for a sold-out
crowd of 18,000), the Rolling Stones in Katowice, Poland (50,000 fans),
Janet Jackson's "Velvet Rope" Tour (eight sold-out shows drawing
90,000 fans) and the Bizarre Festival in Cologne (drawing 30,000 people
per day over three days). Other 1998 tours: Jimmy Page and Robert Plant,
the Cure, Portishead, Iggy Pop, Green Day,
Monster Magnet, Whitney Houston, Genesis, Joe Cocker, Simple Minds, the
Corrs, Phil Collins Big Band, St. Petersburg State Ice Ballet, Joe Jackson,
Marillion and Runrig. Expectations for 1999: "Too early to announce,"
says Rieger.
"The Cure are near completion of their new album due in the
spring of 1999. A planned B sides album that has been in the works for
a while, is now on hold."
"No Doubt bassist Tony Kanal said the band's forthcoming CD
will envoke the New Wave glory days with Robert Smith. 'The Cure were able
to transcend the Gothic darkness with the dance shit,' he said. Then he
broke into the chorus of 'Fire in Cairo.'"

"I just wanted to give you a short review of the 3IB show last night here in Houston at The Oven. First of all, the setlist was:
After initially opening with four original songs, the band Graytown transformed themselves into Three Imaginary Boys. Their group was composed of two guitarists, one bassist, and a keyboardist/percussionist (they used a drum machine). My brother-in-law and I were skeptical when we realized they were not using live drums, but we found that they were able to pull it off without very much distraction.
A surprise to all, the opening song of the set was BURN. For a song never played live by the real Cure, it was excellent to hear in such a small setting. Following this great beginning, ALL I WANT and A STRANGE DAY came in quick succession. All I WANT was fast and driving and another one great to hear. The next four songs were well played, especially SINKING and an almost light-speed version of PUSH. For this audience member, though, the highlight of the show was a one-two punch of THE KISS and SHIVER AND SHAKE. THE KISS was very near brilliantly performed and had a very authentic feel to it. Closing out the show was DISINTEGRATION, KILLING AN ARAB, and A FOREST.
As promised, 3IB delivered an "all fans" setlist and on
the perfect night, it being Halloween, of course. The guitar effects and
overall musical performance was often very close to the real Cure's style
and sound and made for a very pleasant evening. One criticism, however,
must be made. The vocals were definitely limited. Unfortunately, the singer
lacked range and stamina at times and on occasion this did detract from
the effect of the performance. But, for a free night of Cure music and
a rather cozy atmosphere, this gig was WELL worth attending. My hat's off
to you Graytown for a job well done!"
