Show was 2 hours and 50 minutes
(Thanks Alepisolo, Alessandro, Bloodflower, Leonardo and Christian)
It was the second time i see a cure gig, the
first was in 98 in Cernobbio (italy) and i must say this time was very
different for me. This time in Florence Robert
seemed very happy but also very concentrated.....especially during
certain songs like watching me fall and disintegration.
I liked a lot the images on the backstage..(the fire..during
39..) and also the rest of a band seemed to
me in a good mood...especially roger o’donnell....he’s so cute...
For me the hilight was from the edge of a
deep green sea...i started to cry ...i love that song..i think is absolutely
one of the best song i’ve ever heard in my
life....and i want to dedicate that moment to a special person: Luca.
I know that I'm probably a romantic lover but,
believe me, saturday night everything was really gorgeous. Ok,
they played nothing from Faith but it is impossible
not to be on the seventh heaven after a setlist like this.
Maybe Out Of This World is not their best
opening song but, to the end, it represents a quiet introduction to a
marvellous and involving show. At the beginning
the voice was not optimally balanced with the instruments but
with Watching Me Fall everything was ok: over
11 minutes of powerful sound entered me through the bones.
Want, one of the few songs I love from Wild
Mood Swings, was a fit continuation but in '96 they played it in a
more intensive way. Fascination Street and
Open were good as usual but the crowd didn't start to jump as it
would have to do. Anyway the atmosphere was
hot and, after The Last Day Of Summer (good enough) and Maybe
Someday (much better than on the album), The
Cure gave me the first gift: The Snakepit, even more hypnotic
than ever.
Then they went on playing a nice Where The
Birds Always Sing (I like it more & more after every listening),
From The Edge Of The Deep Green Sea (really,
really, really perfect) and finally with In Between Days the
people began to jump, sing and cry in a just
way.
From now on the show became absolutely unforgettable.
Siamese Twins, one of my favourite ones, was extraordinarily intense and
desperate, Prayers For Raaaaaaaaaaaaain shook me a lot for the feeling
it spread all
around, and 100 Years, violent and sad, was
the best played song in hte evening and I think it's impossible they will
play it better.
The first part of the show ended with 39 (great)
and Bloodflowers, unluckily not so perfect (the voice was a little
hesiting and the sound a little confused).
The first encore started with Plainsong without
the intro of the Swing Tour but however touching & lovely with
Robert walking to the borders of the stage,
smiling to the crowd. Disintegration didn't sound like in Como '98
but anyway I enjoyed it.
The second encore represented for me a great
surprise: Cold (wonderful in its deep darkness) and an unbelievable
version of Pornography, very loud and very
very strong.
3rd encore: ooh oh oooh oh ooh everyone was
singing and jumping during the excellent Play For Today, Just Like
Heaven, the excitement went on, A Forest,
ecstasy in the whole arena.
4th encore: the real surprise. Boys Don't
Cry, 10:15, Killing An Arab: delirium and rapture, it's useless to say
something else but that also the band seemed
happy and satisfied after almost 3 hours of great music.
This one was my 5th Cure concert, the best
one, but they said that nor album nor tour will follow.
NOTHING LEFT BUT FAITH.
After having seen them in Rotterdam i focused
on seeing them again at the Werchter festival in Belgium. Then it
suddenly hit me: I can't wait that long! So
i decided to use the Tax money i got back this year to fund an expedition
to the beautiful city of Florence. It took
a car, plain and train -trip, lots of hours and lots of money (The
RaboBank
will not be pleased!) to get there. But you
know what? It was F..k..G worth it! The crowd was way much better than
in Rotterdam. In Florence people were dancing
and singing along with almost every song. The atmosphere was
great, it gave me goosebumps at times. My
personal highlights: Prayers for rain / 100 years (nice lights) / Cold
(awesome) / Pornography / Edge of the deep
green sea and the whole 4th encore (!). The only thing that sucked
was that i didn't get to hear Faith and All
cats are grey. But hey, can't have it all! So Robert, if you by any chance
read this... See you at Werchter!
Yesterday at Palasport (sold out) to see the concert there were 7000 (rumours said also 7500) really hot people.
At the end of the concert the most of the people
was totally satisfied; lots of them, especially who saw the Cure for
the first or for the second time in his life,
have listened the songs that expect and wanted to listen like, fascination
streets, in between days, just like heaven,
boys don't cry, 10.15 sat. night and killing an arab.
For me it has been a good concert, with some
moments of great feeling, and strong emotions for songs like the
snakepit, Siamese twins, 100 years,
cold, pornography, disintegration (also if this song could be played better).
This songs has been for me the highlights
of the concert, and except the songs of the first part of the concert that
are played in all the dates of the tour, the
rest were songs for a concert of "Saturday night" and also the
atmosphere was of a "Saturday night"
when everyone, go out, want to have fun and dance without to think
to
listen attentively.
At the end of the concert I felt, that something
missed. It missed songs from Faith album, and for me this absence
was enough grave; I think this concert has
been the only one (or one of the very few concert of this tour that they
haven't played any song from Faith).
Well now I hope to listen songs from the faith album tomorrow night in Rome.
I was in florence last saturday night!!!!
everything you could have desired from them,
anything you could have thought about them, they are more and
more of our collective imagination.
the show was unique and plenty of all emotional and best "mood" songs of Cure production.
what i know, is that among all those (i don't
know how many!) who were there, something was familiar, a special
way of Robert's talking with their songs,
with Robert's movements (he was very enjoable during Plainsong -
like a star!!!)
i think nobody can ask more from them. they have reached that point.........
i read about Milan concert, probably there
was something specila in Florence, he seemed to be really at ease
while wandering in the scene.
fortunately, we're all OUT OF THIS WORLD!!!
As I’ve always been thinking, Out Of This World
is not the best opening song and there was something in the
sound I didn’t like (a drum machine loop).
However the show was perfect, all songs really well played, and fantastic
lights. Among the new song Watching Me Fall
has been the one that more involved the crowd with everyone crying
“yeah” with Robert. I think people has been
a bit cold in the first part (when The Cure are playing Fascination
Street, Want, From The Edge Of The Deep Green
See you can’t just stand and stare the band: you have to
jump!!!) With In Between Days everyone started
to understand what was to be done and the last songs turned the
palasport into a pandemonium.
The first real moment of the show was the triptych
Siamese Twins, Prayers For Rain, 100 Years. Very emotional.
39 is not my favorite song but was better
then the one on the record. Bloodflowers was ok.
Plainsong was without the loooong intro I heard
during the swing tour, but it’s still a great song! Disintegration had
the bass distorted and a really powerful end.
Cold again was great but the real surprise
for me was Pornography. I had never heard it live before, very violent
very loud (loud drums, loud bass, loud guitar
and Robert screaming from the first to the last word).
Play For Today (usual chorus on keyboards)
and A Forest (short version, people clapping their hands with the bass
in the final) had perfect lights and the audience
really enjoyed them. The last three songs were a nice surprise even
if I hoped for Faith. But it’s ok.
So,after Maybe someday I don't remember exactly
the songlist order
Remember Inbetween days all palasport jumping
and singing, then a marvellously strong of From the edge of the
deep green sea,and then the best version of
100 years I ever listen to:expecially on this song proiections on the
wall behind the group were optimally associated
with lyric;delirium!!!
Still Prayers for rain is an emotional song
of violent sweetness.
I found 39 better than on the cd:live version
gives the song a flaming desperation
Sorry for Bloodflowers:it is one of my preferences
on the album but at the moment live version seems not
perfect:guitar solos vanished under a not
very well coordinated rythmic session, and the voice of Robert is unsure
and hesitating
First encore is Plainsong.Robert walk to the
borders of the stage, smiling silently. And I still feel like summer
1989,when I was seventeen.The same nostalgic
feelings, the same disintegration. Less emotions for
disintegration:something was not good on the
bass and noise covered voice. Not the same miracolous version as
the one I listen to in Sierre 1998.
Second encore very old fashioned songs:Cold and Like Coktatos. Some strange feelings in the auditorium.
After some famous surprises, even songs not
usually played in this tour (affective gift to Florence?): A Forest,Play
for today and at the end the sequence Boys
don't cry-10.15-Killing an arab.A gift also for me.
But now? I waited months and months for this evening. Now that it is gone what shoul I do?
