Though I love the band it was a first for me last night.
Obviously I'm not able to compare the last nights' show with any other but it was good !
The 'Dome' was packed. Around 8,000 people. But besides the front rows, it was very quiet. People seated didn't
even stand up when the Band was playing. Sad, isn't it? They only stood up when they played huge hits at the end
(like Just like Heaven, A forest ...) which may be means they were not all 'real' fans ! Robert didn't talk much.
Some 'Thank ya' and 'Merci' but that was all. I talked after the show with some guys who went to Paris, Grenoble
and Toulouse and they said this show was pretty good may be just the second date in Paris had been better.

I was in Marseille at about 5 o’clock, after about 2000 km in a week-end from my home to Strasbourg and
Marseille !

I was a bit tired but after several beers, everything is ok, you see ! So I was a bit surprised to see Ekova and
The Cure arrive at about 5:15. A few fans were waiting for them but it has been impossible to approach them,
as usual (f*** !). Roger sat on a chair outside for a moment, Jason came back to the bus to take a bag, but
nothing really important happened before the show.

My American friend and I entered the Dome early to be in front of the stage, at the 4th row : that’s when we
realized the crowd was very impatient to see the band because everybody wanted to be closer.

When Ekova came on stage, the venue was far from being full : I first didn’t understand why because the gig
was sold out ‘cos no tickets were sold at the entrance. Their set was a bit shorter than in Strasbourg, but maybe
more intense. The singer thanked The Cure in French and said she was sad because it was the last gig in France
and was a pleasure to open for them. The audience has been kind to them, but lots of people only arrived after
they left and then the Dome was full. As everybody knows Marseille is the south of France, it’s hot and very
“latin”. When The Cure arrived, the crowd became very shaken, but was perfectly out of control when they
played “Fascination Street”.

Roger seemed to be a bit scared, but Robert found this starting madness very amazing, looking at the crowd
dancing as fools. That’s why the set was more powerful than in Strasbourg. The Cure chose to play faster (“The
Kiss” replacing “Like Cokatoos” or a entreated version of “Disintegration”).

At the beginning of the set, we found that the sound wasn’t very loud, but song after song, it became more
heavier. Best moments of the first part :

-“Watching Me Fall” : more intense than in Strasbourg

-“If Only Tonight We Could Sleep” : very atmospheric again, with great part of solo guitar

-“The Kiss”, very long and never ending guitar spasms,

-“Shake Dog Shake”, the crowd trying to shout louder than Robert (but he was at his top, so…)

- "Prayers For Raiiiiinnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn”,
  you can imagine

-“Bloodflowers”, very intimist at the start, very explosive at the end.

It was so long before the group came back that you could feel and HEAR the crowd impatience.

1st encore : “Plainsong”, Robert wandering on stage, touching a few hand, his eyes lost in the crowd, his typical
  child smile on his face and A BIG “Disintegration”;

2nd encore : “Cold”, and cold it was; “A Strange Day”, I couldn’t imagine people could dance on it, but Marseille
can ! “Pornography”, schizophrenic and as well done that “One Hundred Years” was in Strasbourg : simply
  incredible.

3rd encore : that’s for sure, Robert wants to see us dancing : “Play For Today”, Roger playing this time louder
than the crowd, as it was a game to defeat it and “Just Like Heaven”, looking like a heaven for The Sex Pistols
fans, and played as never. “A Forest”, with more guitar improvisations, just to finish to kill us, and “Faith”, long,
deep… and those strange words Robert’s the only one able to understand.

It was very funny to see so many fans waiting for the bus to get out and trying to follow it, but a security car
avoided fan cars to take the same street, and then the bus disappeared in the night.

A great show, once more we can say. Now The Cure will put Italy on its knees !!!

First, I have to say that I was very surprised by the average age of the audience. Probably between 16 and 20
years. This was the first I had the feeling to be an "old" fan :)

The place was not-that-small-not-that-big. The sound quality was ok, except the fact that you had to be placed in
the middle of the audience to really enjoy the stereo. The audience was a good one, and so was the show. Robert
and Simon were both in ultra-top form. Simon was the one who signalled the end of most songs with both Robert
and Jason.

The version of Dinsintegration we heard yesterday was one of the best I've ever heard. Robert took the mic off
the tripod to sing and put it on his shoulder to play the guitar parts, just like he did in the Summer 98 festival
dates.

On Plainsong, Robert signed gave an autograph to a fan (on the left) and gave something he had in his pocket to
another fan on the right.

Concerning the lyrics, many changes could be heard. Especially, Robert's words at the end of Bloodflowers were
"I keep all flowers of blood" instead of "I let fall". Another great show...

Something I forgot. It's not about The Cure directly but it's Cure-related.

I just wanted to thank the band Ekova. At all gigs I attended in France, they always had a kind word for The
Cure. As the opening act for France only, Marseille was their last performance in this tour. They thanked The
Cure, explained that touring with them was really a great experience and that they loved it. For my part, listening
to their music before The Cure set made the Dream Tour simply unbelievable, just like listening to Shelleyan
Orphan during the Prayer Tour. So thanks and good luck to Ekova!

According to the singer, they'll release their second album around September and hope to be touring soon.

By the way, if someone knows in which language they sing, please e-mail me (bporret@club-internet.fr)
