  • And another photo from the Re:Covered taping:
  • "Well, we are not going to repeat ourselves telling what happened last saturday at the Riverside Studios all over again, but we would like to use this opportunity to thank The Cure for signing our wedding book.

We've also attached one of the pictures we took after the event with Simon. "

    (Thanks Barbara & Andrew)

  • Cure logo and ring tones for your mobile/cell phones:
  • "I have found a site that will send you mobile logos and ring tones for free (you dont even have to sign up to the site).

they dont just have cure stuff they seem to have everything"

    (Thanks John)

  • PlayLouder has put up a story about the Idlewild Cure cover from Re:Covered.
  • (Thanks Hugh)

  • Cure covers:
  • "Just in case some people don't know this, I might add that A.F.I. covers 'The Hanging Garden', The Alkaline Trio covers 'The Exploding Boy' and a band called Prozac + covers 'Boys Don't Cry'. All these cover versions are worth hearing. "

    (Thanks Nando)

  • Curespotting:
  • "In today's Sun newpaper (May 29th) in the UK there is a large article about Michael Eavis' daughter (He's the guy that runs Glastonbury Festival). On one page she explains that at the age of 9 she became a Cure fan and wanted to meet Robert. And what do you know, there's actually a picture of the event with Robert looking a bit weird about meeting a 9 year old girl. I figure it was taken at the 1990 festival because she says in the interview she's 22 now so that sort of makes it right. Thought it was pretty cool because The Sun is by far and away the top selling newspaper in the UK. "

Update: Here's a link to the story & the photo:

    http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2001290023-2002241337,00.html

    (Thanks Carl and Jeff)

"I watched that movie, 'My First Mister,' and when they did a pan of Leelee Sobieski's character's bedroom ceiling you could see amidst the cluttered posters, one of Robert."

    (Thanks Summer)

  • Another photo from the Re:Covered taping (aka When Gary met Robert):
  • "I felt like a silly little girl.. all the cool things i always thought I would say & the best i could manage was " I like your new guitar" In a high pitched squeaky voice..."

    (Thanks Gary)

  • Another new compilation cd with The Cure:
  • "A new compilation album called Teenage Kicks has just been released and features Boys Don't Cry. Adverts are being screened on TV in the UK at the moment but while they play a clip of Boys Don't Cry they show the video to In Between Days???"

    (Thanks Ian)

  • Curespotting:
  • "Yesterday I saw the movie "Not another Teen Movie" and they played the beginning of "Inbetween Days". It sounded pretty good. Throughout the entire movie they played lots of rock versions of 80s songs. Does anybody know which band covered "Inbetween Days" there ? It's not on the Soundtrack.

Update: The cover is by Face To Face. Thanks to everyone who wrote in with the answer.

    (Thanks Benny and Patrick)

"A friend found this and showed it to me. just another funny mention of the cure, as *the* band known for sad music. http://www.nuklearpower.com/comic/151.htm"

    (Thanks Joe)

"I don't know if someone has noticed it before me, because in italy movies arrive later than in the US, but yesterday i saw a movie (american school) which had 1-2 minutes of mint car in the background."

Update: "American School" is the Italian title for the movie "Loser" starring Jason Biggs and Mena Suvari.

    (Thanks Pietro and Joe)

  • Just a note about the Re:Covered tickets. Daryl received hundreds of responses for the tickets and could only pick the first 12 (2 more then originally planned). While he has tried to e-mail everyone who wrote in to thank them, it's impossible to get to everyone, so Daryl has asked me to post this "Thank You" to all who replied, and is sorry that more fans couldn't get into the show.

  • Daryl has also confirmed that Re:Covered will air on July 19th on BBC2. While we wait for it, here's another bit from the interview with Robert:
  • "during the interview robert was asked about a cover of boys don't cry that had been done on an earlier show by an excellent scottish guitar band called idlewild. robert said it was the best cure cover he had heard except for the dinosaur jr version of jlh. it was broadcast tonight and is indeed as good as is claimed, a truly great cover. "

Update: Hugh has sent in an MP3 of the Idlewild cover and you can get it on the Audio/Video page.

    (Thanks Hugh)

  • Will the Sudoeste Festival be the final show confirmed? Looks like it:
  • "as you all know, sudoeste festival have been rumored since the begining in the cure summer festival tour for this year (for august 4th). here's something i found on the official message board of sudoeste festival (http://festivalsudoeste.no.sapo.pt/ ) for the official page.

    http://pub84.ezboard.com/ffestivalsudoestefrm1 for the message board:

wich means... "as for the cure we only have to wait for the next update in their website...which was supposed to been done this month, but seems like their delayed".

this has come from a moderator of the board, so, MAYBE their confirmed already and haven't updated their website. i'll try to talk to ths guy later to know if they are REALLY confirmed or not, and then mail you more details."

    (Thanks Paulo)

  • Another report from the Re:Covered taping:
  • "The Cure - riverside studios, 25th may

What a fantastic night, having played 'snakes and ladders' on the london tubes trying to actually get to the TV Studio I arrived late with sheffield suzie sweaty and panicking about how we were going to get in....after some persuasive talk with the production team we managed to gain entry and little did I know how much our efforts in getting there were going to be rewarded!!!

The Uk faithful were treated to 3 live versions of 'lovesong' (to which the floor manager kept saying if theres not enough movement from the audience they'll have to do it again - so yes we all stood still!) The band then played Thin Lizzys DBAW - the presenter asked Robert if they were going to do the fast or the slow version that they had rehearsed, Robert replied " were gonna do the fast one because we're ROCKERS!!!" we all giggled as they launched into DBAW, their rendition was awesome, extremely tight, I stood in awe of roberts guitar solo (very porl-esque!!!) after they finished the track they launched into 'A forest' and all the cure fans went crazy jumping around... the version was short and ended on the part where Roberts sings 'suddenly we stop'.....they did both songs twice....

Wow 7 cure songs played perfectly and an interview with robert, what a perfect evening....the band came out into the lobby and robert got surrounded by fans chatting for half an hour or so about the world cup and other things...as the cure disappeared were we all left with huge smiles on our faces (thanks guys) and suddenly we were all talking about upping the amount of euro festivals that we were all going to go to....Certainly wet my appetite for the summer....see you all there, I cant wait!"

    (Thanks Ange)

  • The Cure came in at #18 on the KROQ "Top Bands of All Time" countdown for Memorial Day weekend.

    May 25th

  • The Cure performed 'Lovesong' and Thin Lizzy's 'Don't Believe A Word' on Re:Covered tonight, and here's our first report:
  • "I Missed 5 imaginary Boys...I missed Paris last year...I couldnt get into CDTV...but THIS TIME ?

    FINALLY !!!!!!!!

I arrived at the pub opposite Riverside studios at 4pm thinking I would be the only saddo to get there so early...but no, Barbara & Andy were there before me ( hah!). So the first 3 of the London faithful posse were here.....Next to surface was Vicky, then Chris White with Lise' and Delphine, then Hew, then Angela & Jennifer, then Danny (Zucko)....then Cure Chick.....ok a few more I didnt know...so we were here....at the pub...opposite...the venue where we knew the Cure would be playing tonight...OK... are we all going to get in ????

Well thanks to "Blaze TV" yes we were.... Once inside (thanks to Chris's fast talking & smooth tongue) all 20 of us managed to gain entrance into the inner echelons of "TV land".......Right from the begining, the warm up man (who looked suspiciously like the rat catcher from chitty chitty bang bang) began to ridicule the Cure Contingent in the crowd...with such original ditty's as "Smile Love"... "Oh I better not ask that lot to dance"...began to make us rehearse our cheering..together with the rest of the crowd who asked several of us at different intervals "SCUSE ME MATE BUT DO YOU KNOW WHICH BANDS ARE PLAYING TONIGHT?" (Rather upsetting when you consider the place could have contained at least another 500 real curefans to make the takes seem full of "real people").

The Cure arrived onstage looking as confused as we felt....being pushed towards a sea of chaos....with the RAT CATCHER counting us down from 5 to 1 for a huge cheer for the Cure.. The Cure then launched straight into a number only to be stopped by RAT Catcher..."thankyou fellas we're not quite ready yet"......They were then made to stand aimlessly onstage whilst the crane camera man threw the camera around the room & RAT CATCHER had another few digs at the Cure fans... Then we were treated to the awful "popularist comedy" of Mr Dermot leary of BIG BROTHER fame... Then all of a sudden we were ordered to cheer... then the magic emerged & before we knew it Robert was 4 bars into "LOVESONG"........we didnt need RAT CATCHER's encouragement we were there...The "OTHER" audience didnt know what had hit them.....a perfect rendition of LOVESONG...it finished too soon & we were then informed by "RAT CATCHER" that this was just a sound check...we were as surprised as ROBERT looked...OH well I can think of other songs I'd rather hear least...Just before The Cure launched off into the 2nd rendition RAT CATCHER announced that he'd like to see "more movement !" ( I guess this was directed to the crowd ) but ROBERT muttered over the mike, " Us or the audience..?.

OK we'll try The next rendition seemed perfect..but for some reason Roger didnt seem happy and motioned to Robert ...they decided to run it again...by this time we were all dying for a wee but jumped up and down and dived out of the way of the TV crane which span around roberts head like some dental X-Ray machine or maybe a KatScan ...Finally it was done...& RAT CATCHER WAS HAPPY....

Next came the interview...For the americans I will explain...Dermott is a TV presenter who has become extremely popular amongst the young ladies & ladyboys of the UK ( Mainly for his involvement with a certain BIG BROTHER program which has been a huge hit here) he's normally a bit of a cheeky git...always has a poke... BUT for some reason he was completely lost with our ROBERT..he seemed very shy...He mentioned that the Cure have been going 25 yrs...Robert responded by saying that it was almost 25 yrs to the day since The Cure did their first ever gig.....Then they spoke about HYDE park... Robert said that it was really special to him...then Dermot made a poke to the Cure fans "saying that they are all probabaly camped there already"...Then Robert spoke about Thin Lizzy & how they influenced him as a kid....& that the Cure's first ever gig was in the Rocket..then he pulled himself up & said " I suppose we should be promoting our gig in Hyde Park next month & not a gig at the rocket 25 yrs ago" Then they launched into one of the best rock songs I have ever heard The Cure play since Purple Haze .......I wont even try to describe it...I'm sure Craig will link it soon...If you ever had any doubts about Robert's guitar playing let's just say you wont ever again....what a F*****ing solo & his whah playing was spot on.....

Afterwards Robert met us all in the Lobby...he was really nice...the first time I ever met him...he spent a good half hour just chatting with the London/Paris Cure Contingent ....what a nice relaxed cosy evening...even Daryl looked chilled... Thankyou Daryl & The Cure for a nice civillised evening......finally I'd like to take this chance to say Congratulations to my good freinds Barbs & Andy on their wedding last week..(The Cure signed their wedding book tonight ...guys you made their time...) WHAT A NIGHT !!!! HYDE PARK HERE WE COME !!!!!!!"

(Thanks to Gary for the report & ticket scan and to The Tea Lady for the band photos)

  • Good luck to everyone who is going to the Re:Covered taping today. Have a great time! I'll have reports up as soon as I get them. And yes, I know the Guess The Cover competition is nearly impossible, but that's what makes it fun. Two hints - 1.) The BAND that they are covering is listed on Robert's page and 2.) That band is not playing at the Hyde Park show (or any other show for that matter). No one has guessed it yet, so give it a shot. The taping is scheduled to begin around 6pm in the UK, so the competition will close at Noon US central time. Look for the answer to be posted around that time.
  • Update: Well, no one guessed the cover song and I'm not surprised. The Cure are scheduled to perform "Don't Believe A Word" by Thin Lizzy tonight. Didn't see that one coming, now did you? : )

Most popular guesses were Nick Drake, Smashing Pumpkins, David Bowie and Joy Division.

  • An update on tickets for the show in Brittany, France:
  • "The great day of the Festival des Vieilles Charrues (well the 20th of July of course) is almost sold-out ! Not the other days... For fans in France or somewhere else you can find tickets on ticketnet.fr or virginmegastore french website but not in FNAC. Hurry !"

    (Thanks Yan)

  • Cure VCDs available in the UK:
  • "UK readers may not be aware that Cure VCD's are now available to them without having to bother with importing.

I have seen several US sites selling Galore and In Orange, but obviously did not particularly want to pay the shipping costs. I've come across a British site http://www.first2view.co.uk that is offering Galore and In Orange for the super cheap prices of: Galore £7, In Orange £10.00. Postage below £2 (various options).

This is an absolute bargain considering that the Greatest Hits DVD retails for an average instore price of £16 - £18 in the UK.

I'm investing in In Orange so if anybody is interested I can report back with a review when I receive it. Delivery is supposed to be within 2 - 7 days, but can take up to 14 for back catalogue (which I am guessing In Orange will be...).

I didn't think it was particularly worthwhile buying Galore as I already have Greatest Hits on DVD (and Galore on VHS) and there are only 4 post-Staring At The Sea. songs on Galore that aren't on Greatest Hits (if you take into account the hidden videos on GH) and Fascination Street and A Letter To Elise aren't exactly the greatest videos of all time anyway (IMHO).

If you're thinking of investing, don't forget to check that your DVD player/PC is capable of playing VCD's. It's worth noting that even if you think your DVD player can't handle VCD's it very well might be able to. According to the manual my DVD player is not supposed to play VCD's but the new Star Wars Episode 2 movie (on a real VCD, not a CDR) seems to work just fine. ;-)

So, see if you can borrow a real VCD (not a CDR) and try it out !

And remember, if The Cure realise that there is a market for their VCD's they may realise that there is most definitely a market for at least one of their concerts to be put out on DVD !!!"

Before you order, keep in mind that these are VCDs, not DVDs. While the quality is pretty good on both, they are nowhere near DVD standards. Still, they are great to have, especially In Orange.

    (Thanks Dave Ace)

  • Cure sampling:
  • "I just bought that CD "How I Do" by Res, which includes the single "They Say-Vision" I was listening thru the other tracks today and noticed a familiar bass line in a song called "Let Love" It contains the bass line and other elements of "Other Voices"."

    (Thanks Sean)

  • The Cure will be taping a tv show in London tomorrow (May 25th) called Re-Covered. The first ten fans to e-mail Daryl Bamonte can be in the audience, to see something interesting! (No more e-mails, the spots have been filled)
  • And if you DO get in, please send in a report on the show and photos (if allowed). Thanks!

Update: While the show will be taped on Saturday, it will not air until the week before the Hyde Park show ( on July 19th on BBC2). I won't reveal the cover song they are doing until tomorrow night after the taping, so as not to spoil it for those who are going. But it does give me a chance to run a quick COF contest:

If you can guess the cover song The Cure will be doing on Re:Covered, e-mail me and all correct entries will be entered into a drawing for a Wild Mood Swings promo poster (Thanks to Jeff Bayard).

    (Thanks Daryl)

  • German music channel Onyx will be showing David Bowie's 50th Birthday Concert from 1997, which features Robert on two songs, on June 24th at 9pm.
  • (Thanks Dennis)

  • New compilation cd feautes The Cure:
  • "There's a new stupid compilation cd out there compiled by German football player Mehmet Scholl, it's called 'Vor dem Spiel ist nach dem Spiel', and it features Cure's Lovesong (and a good bunch of other less interesting tracks). The only thing about it is that it's limited to 5000, so hard core collectors might be interested in it. It's available at least in Germany from WOM, don't know about any other."

    (Thanks Stefan)

  • German and Italian translators needed:
  • "I now have positive answers for translation into Spanish. I'd also like to be read in German and Italian, so...if someone is interested, please contact Craig very quickly."

    May 17th

  • The Cure have started rehearsing for the summer festivals:
  • "Yesterday night (5-17-02) I have met Robert somewhere in England. Unfortunately he was in a sort of hurry so he could not spend more than 2 minutes talking with me (family duties) and I did not feel like pulling him and bother too much.

The only thing he told me is that the band is up to rehearse since last Monday and that he was a bit excited about it (although, my very personal impression is that he did not seem that much but I may well be wrong).

I am sorry I don't have any further details to give you I would have indeed wanted to have more myself but as I have said it would have been inopportune to push for more time since he did not have any and he had to leave.

He looked to be in a good physical shape."

  • Curespotting:
  • "There's an interview with Moby in Rolling Stone (6/6/02 Issue), and there's a subarticle titled Dark Lords - Moby's Goth Roots Revealed.

"I don't think of myself as more prone to melancholy than anyone else. I love happy music; I love Creedence Clearwater Revival. But there is something about a tear-jerker, a record that encapsulates angst and despair." "My two biggest heroes in high school were Ian Curtis of Joy Division and Johnny Rotten. A lot of my favorites have gone on to make crappy records -- Echo and the Bunnymen, Simple Minds, the Psychedelic Furs. The Cure lost me when they got happy. I remember seeing the Cure at the Ritz [in New York] in 1983, and being annoyed because Robert Smith was wearing basketball sneakers. I was like, 'You're my goth idol. How can you wear basketball shoes??"

    (Thanks Jennifer)

  • Cure rehearsing for the Dom Joly show:
  • "I walked past a studio today (5-16-02) to the sounds of the cure! I went into the viewing gallery and found them rehearsing Inbetween days and a night like this for something called "the dom joly programme". "

Update: "They were in TC8 at BBC Television Centre (which is in West London) rehearsing. I think the show was being recorded in front of an audience later in the evening. I'm afraid I can't find anything on the intranet site about the programme so I don't know when it will be broadcast, but I'll let you know if I do manage to find anymore information."

  • Vote for The<LCe at KROQ:
  • "KROQ 106.7 fm radio station in Los Angeles is having a "biggest KROQ band" contest. They have a list of bands to choose from, including the Cure (you choose three bands). So, everybody please go and VOTE FOR THE CURE! Since, KROQ doesn't really play the Cure anymore, it would be nice to see the Cure be #1, to show those bastards that the Cure are still the best. http://www.kroq.com/kroqnow/kroqnow.html "

  • Curespotting:
  • "I was at Barnes and Noble today listening to some of the music they have set up to preview. In the Dance/Electronic section, I listened to the compilation CD "Paris Lounge 2" and song #5 has an uncanny resemblance to "Mr. Alphabet Man" from Blue Sunshine. The name of the group is Williams Traffic and the song is "La Fugitive." It doesn't sound like a direct sample but its incredibly close and is repeated throughout the song."

  • "Yesterday Icalled Ticketmaster and bought London Hyde Park tickets. They only have about 500 left (at the standing area)...hurry up!!!"

    (Thanks Alex Vítores Lorenzo)

  • New French Cure Book needs a translator:
  • "My name is david and I live in the south of France. I'm a huge Cure fans for years and years and I was just thinking of what I could do to express what I feel about their music and to thank them in a way for what they've done during the past 25 years. So I deceided to write a book that could contain four different parts:

    - a complete biography of the band with the main steps of their carreer,

    - a review of each album (especialy the studio releases),

    - a kind of "did you know..." with datas, figures, anecdotes...,

    - something that I could say more personal about Robert Smith and his relationships with other musicians, other arts, his way of aprehending life, showbusiness...

The first two parts are already done in french. In fact I tell you about this book because I'm looking for help :

    - one is like a dream : I'd love to get a foreword by another great musician (don't ask me who he/she is : it might not work !),

    - the other is more ... accessible : I'm seaking for someone bilingual to translate this book into enlish (and into other languages if someone is interested of course). I do speak english but it's a bit difficult to make a whole book with the right words, so...

I really don't know if this pages will be released one day and to be honnest I don't care. If it doesn't work, I'll offer it to "A Chain Of Flowers" for what they do for the band and fans.

If you want to participate, please contact Craig who's got my e-mail adress.

Impatient to get in touch with you,

    david"

    (Thanks David)

  • Curespotting:
  • "On the 4/18/02 entry for Moby's journal, http://www.moby.com/index2.html , I found this interesting quote:

"i wish i had the cure's 'standing on the beach' cd with me. oh wait, does that have 'caterpillar' on it? i haven't listened to the cure in a while. maybe it's time to go back and listen to some cure cd's. excuse me, i'm indulging in my new-wave geekiness at the moment. right now i'd like to listen to their nice love songs, 'in between days', 'caterpillar', etc. although 'pornography' is their best cd, imho."

    (Thanks Liza)

"I had a strange Cure sighting yesterday on a CNN Europe program called "The Music Room". There was some guy called Pete Yorn (I have no idea who he is) talking about his music and his influences and he mentioned The Cure as one of his major musical influences. He said that he would try to play their songs while he was learning how to play guitar. However, from what I could tell from the music clips that appeared in the show The Cure's influence didn't stick with him very well...unfortunately."

    (Thanks Peq., Alison and Jason)

"On the BBC on Sunday there was a show about the child social services system (or the lack of it) in the UK. While the presenter was reliving some of his experiences in a 'care' unit, the intro to A Forest was played. A pretty miserable topic made better by the fact this bloke had been a success against pretty much all the odds and had no hang ups about his life ...(and the cure were on tv)."

    (Thanks Phil)

"yesterday my loved MODENA FOOTBALL CLUB reached the Italian BIG LEAGUE after 38 years (!!!) and tonight the Italian local tv TRC did broadcast a tv special about it featuring 'a forest' as background music!!! GREAT!!!!!"

  • "In the hungarian newspaper called 'Blikk' of the 10th may is a huge 2 sites long ad' about the Sziget Fesztival, and there is a nice photo of the CURE from the 96 era. Also they were mentioned as 'the biggest stars!!!' and under the photo was written: ' The legendary The Cure will play in main-time'. "

  • Cure samples:
  • "The italian dance pop group DELTA V just released a new single "un colpo in un istante" from their most recent album. In this release they sample the cure, they use the drum intro from "inbetween days" repeated several times during the song, one can easily recognize boris williams' trademark drumming. the song is pretty low stuff but the video is good fun..some famous italian soccer players appear as guests."

    (Thanks Sopor)

"The new single from a (pretty) french R&B singer called Jalane ( http://www.jalane.net/audios.php3 ) features a sample from Lullaby : The song is called 'Ou va le monde' (http://jalane.com/video/ou_va_le_monde.ram)."

  • Curespotting:
  • "Here in the UK we have a website called FriendsReunited.co.uk, in which you can contact old school friends. For each school there is a section where you can view 'famous ex pupils' (thats if the school has any). Of course of sheer curiosity I checked Robert Smiths old schools to see if anyone had added his name on their famous pupils list...and there it is under Notre Dame High School, West Sussex. Famous ex pupil- "Robert Smith leader of The Cure". Nice one!!"

    (Thanks Tom)

"I went to see No Doubt in Austin last night. The Cure's "Six Different Ways" and "Close To Me" played over the PA before the band came out."

"Just been reading a very old feature (from NME January 16th 1982) on the now defunct English band Talk Talk, and came across a comparison to The Cure:

"As a young group with no track record and no obvious tags or trimmings, the band are vague and evasive about what, if anything, they represent. For the moment, their music speaks for itself. Talk Talk produce credible pop that respects the Anglo-American traditions of the 60's while simultaneously reaching out to embrace a mood and mode that belongs nowhere but 1982. It floats somewhere between a jazzier Teardrop and the deft adroitness of The Cure before they grew cynical and pretentious. It is catchy and instant, but not without its darker side; a gothic, almost celestial majesty."

Looking back, NME's choice of words is quite ironic because The Cure were just about to record a bunch of records (The Dream, Just One Kiss, The Upstairs Room, La Ment) that sound pretty much the same as the debut Talk Talk album that they are discussing (The Party's Over) which was released in early 1983 (And which incidentally is awesome if you're into early 80's synth-pop in the Duran/Human League/Mode styleee !)

The full interview can be found at Within Without - An unnofficial Mark Hollis and Talk Talk page. URL of the interview: http://users.cybercity.dk/~bcc11425/IntNME160182.html "

  • If you mistakenly bought a seated ticket from Ticketmaster last week, due to their false seating chart, you should be able to exchange it now:
  • "I have just noticed that the seating chart displayed on the ticketmaster website for this gig has been changed! As would be sensible, the standing is now IN FRONT of the seating- this was wrong for the first week that the tickets were on sale and a number of people may have relied on this in buying their tickets, thinking they were buying the best available!

If you have, I recommend ringing ticketmaster to change your tickets- this is misrepresentation and they cannot do this. I have just changed my ticket (from standing to seated to standing- mad!). It might interest you to know that they put up no resistance whatsoever to changing my ticket. Clearly they recognise there has been a huge cock-up!

Standing tickets are still available as at 2pm Friday. "

    (Thanks Emma)

  • The official site has confirmed that The Cure will play in Budapest on July 31st. Also, notice that the page says they are hoping to play 13 festivals. They have announced 12 so far, so that leaves one more still to be confirmed.

  • It looks like the rumored Vienne, France show will not be the final one confirmed:
  • "The Vienne tourist office couldn't confirm anything about the french gig in Vienne, saying it was at the moment only rumours. On the french band Dionysos web site (www.dionyweb.com), it's said that The Cure's gig is cancelled."

    (Thanks Julien)

  • Need help planning your trip to London for the big Hyde Park show? Try this:
  • "I have, in the last couple of days, set up a Yahoo group designed for people going to the Hyde Park gig.. It contains tips for travelling from all over the world, it's a general place to meet other fans who are going. there'll be a lot up there in the next couple of days... http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/night_like_this/ "

    (Thanks James)

  • And if you need help with the show in Budapest, e-mail George:
  • "I am a Hungarian guy who lives in the US. If anyone needs help it will be my pleasure to help to see the greatest band (THE CURE) ."

  • Cure on VH1 in Poland:
  • "It will be on May 23/24th

    10 p.m. The Cure - Unplugged

1 a.m. Greatest Hits of... The Cure "

    (Thanks Darek)

  • Cure cover:
  • "One of my friends recommened this band to me because he thought I'd enjoy them. They're Orgy-like, and sound alright. They use a bunch of synths in their songs and what not...but anyway they're called Deadsy. So I was looking around for some songs and stumbled upon a "Just Like Heaven" one. I downloaded it and it turned out to not be mislabeled, but Deadsy actually covered Just Like Heaven. Its ALOT alot slower then the original, almost sounds like a different song. The vocals are a bit too much, low kind of post-grunge Alice in Chains or something to that effect, sounding. Overall they do the song justice I think. "

    (Thanks Kelly)

  • Curespotting:
  • "Really bad news

There''s a show on childrens tv in the UK called starstreet which is set around the adevntures of a pop group (manufactured of course) called the Allstars.

I switched on the television today to find them performing a dreadful version of the lovecats!"

"The Sunday lifestyle section of the Brownsville (Tex.) Herald featured preparations for prom. One student hoped that they had a band as good as the one in years past that played great music like the Cure."

"Last night i was watching the episode of Beavis and Butthead "Island". probably more people have seen this episode before. i had to see it cause my sister once told me about it 7 years ago and i Had to see it. and good thing i did cause during their episode they showed a piece of the LoveCats video and Beavis and Butthead were making fun of them, esp of Robert about the way he is singing and about that he never looks into the camera. it was really funny. in most cases i would've been "mad" if they would make fun of The Cure/Robert but really it was so funny. and Butthead started imitating Robert ending up singing like Tarzan or something. and at the end Butthead said something like "If that dude wouldn't wear make up and sing like that, he would be kinda cool" was very funny."

  • A few more tips for those who haven't bought their tickts for Hyde Park yet (and no matter what they tell you, if you want to be down front, get standing tickets):
  • "Stargreen in london is a far better ticket agent, small independent always knowledgeable and very helpful. (i buy ALL my tickets from there)

    their number is 020 7734 8932

the website for the cure show is http://www.stargreen.co.uk/events?artist=THE%20CURE"

    (Thanks Hugh)

"Those who want to speak directly to ticketmaster operators dial 0207 344 4000 and ask for the receptionist. also try 0870 444 6061 which is ticketmaster hyde park direct.

PS: Customer services at ticketmaster was useless nobody seemed to know what was going on especially regarding seating plan, capacity size of standing area and also VIP tickets. It appears that the decision to host VIP packages for the show on the 27th has not been confirmed, but you could try emailing customer.services@ticketmaster.co.uk and leave your details. Incidentally, VIP pacakges for the paul wellar gig were appox £200!!!! good luck all."

This follower was interwiewed by Monica, who said that he hates the boring and flat life."

  • As expected, the Ticketmaster seating chart was wrong. The correct chart is the "Paul Weller" one down below and on the right. So if you have standing tickets, congratulations, you're in front. If you bought seated tickets thinking they were in front, call Ticketmaster and complain about their false seating chart and ask for an upgrade. Anyway, it looks like everyone had a pretty easy time this morning, with only minimal and typical TM problems.

  • The above photo (taken from the Bookings Direct website) is apparently the ad for the Hyde Park show, as it was run in last night's London Evening Standard. So we have the ice cream from Galore dropped down on the venue in Hyde Park. I kind of like it.
  • (Thanks Steve)

  • XFM have story on their website about the Hyde Park show.
  • (Thanks Ian)

    May 2nd

  • It Seems like that Ticketmaster chart I posted below could be wrong. Here's a look at two charts from Bookings Direct:
  •

Meatloaf and Supertramp are using the set-up on the left, while Bryan Adams and Paul Weller are using the one on the right. It would stand to reason that The Cure will also use the set-up on the right, although I can't tell you that for sure. So now it appears that if you want the "floor" tickets, you DO want the standing tickets. Again, just double check with the ticket agent if you're calling or buying in person. If you're buying over the net, it's a bit more complicated, but just check the seat location they are giving you against the charts and hope that you can make more sense out of it than me. : )

As soon as I get a definitive answer on this I'll post it. Until then, good luck to everyone, and let us know how it goes tomorrow.

    (Thanks Jan)

  • Some more ticket info for the Hyde Park show (aka "THE event of the summer") - Tickets will go on sale at 9am tomorrow (May 3rd) at Ticketmaster locations. Prices are £32.50 (standing) and £35.00 (seated). If you haven't checked the tour dates page, I've put up a link to a map of Hyde Park and an overhead photo of the concert area. I really don't need to say it, but this is going to be a very special show and if you have any way of going, do it!
  • Update: Tickets are on sale at 9am tomorrow in England, so for those of you in the US who want to get tickets, that will be 4am eastern / 3am central / 2am mountain and 1am pacific. Better stay up late tonight or wake up very early tomorrow.

Also, here are the numbers for phone orders: UK - (+44) 020 7316 4709 / International - 011 44 20 7316 4709 (I'm being told that the UK number is info only and that you can't talk to a live person. Does anyone have the ordering number? You might also want to try the NME Ticketline at 0870 1 663 663).

And here's a look at the seating chart from Ticketmaster UK:

So looking at that, if you want to be closer to the stage, you DO want the seated tickets instead of standing. Also, the other Hyde Park shows say "reserved seating" and "standing", but they only offer "standing" and "seated" tickets for The Cure. So even the seated tickets might be general admission for this show. It's a bit unclear on all of this, so please check with the ticket agent before buying. And if anyone can offer more info on this, please e-mail me.

  • Here's some help for getting tickets and info for the Italian shows:
  • "I thought that it could be useful to display this link to "Barley arts" which usually organizes the Cure's concerts in Italy: http://www.barleyarts.com/home.htm

following the link "concerti" you have the list with all the artists playing there and of course there you will find The Cure listed. The link "prevendite" will be useful for who wants to buy the ticket online. There is also a link "artisti" following which you will find a good biography. The website is only in italian."

    (Thanks Davide)

  • Cure on Dutch radio:
  • "Last Saturday the Dutch radio program "Poster" featured the history of the Cure. Part two of this will be broadcast on Radio 3FM this coming Saturday at 22:00hrs. Part one was interesting. If you can cut through the Dutch comments, you can listen to the interview with Robert about his youth and the start of the Cure. Just follow the link below:

    http://www.tros3fm.nl/

Then on the homepage you will see the picture of the Cure with the blue word "Poster". Click that, then use the drop list on the new page to sellect "the Cure" and then click "Beluister de uitzending" (which means "listen to the broadcast"). "

  • As expected, NME has the story as well and has confirmed that The Cranes will be on the bill as well:
  • In Goth We Trust

Goth legends THE CURE have announced details of an open-air LONDON show.

The group, who are confirmed to play a variety of European festivals this summer, are to headline a night in London's Hyde Park on July 27 as part of the 'Route Of Kings' concerts.

Support will come from Mogwai and Portsmouth band The Cranes.

Tickets for the gig go on sale Friday (May 3). For availability contact the NME Ticketline on 0870 1 663 663.

    (Thanks Neil)

  • Well, the official Mogwai site has decided to leak the big news, and I'm sure the UK press will be running with it soon, so here it is:
  • Mogwai To Support The Cure

"Mogwai have been personally invited to support The Cure as their special guests when they play a London outdoor show later this year. Mogwai have always cited The Cure as a major creative influence and to this end, were honoured to accept the invitation.

The concert will take place on Saturday 27th July at the 'Route Of Kings' in Hyde Park, London. It should be noted, that as this is a support slot and the Mogwai set may be limited to no more than 45-60 minutes.

Ticket information can be found in the fixtures section."

And you can expect a couple of other bands to be announced as well, hopefully by the official site.

    (Thanks Kieran)

  • Pollstar has now confirmed that The Cure will play Rome on July 23rd. All we need now is for the official site to confirm it.

  • Curespotting:
  • "In the May edition of GQ magazine in the UK (with Kylie Minogue on the front cover), there's an interview with Dom Joly, the guy behind Channel 4's "Trigger Happy TV"...

Question 43. You were a huge fan of Robert Smith from The Cure and then you ended up working with him. What was that like?

I was Robert Smith for about three years, and it turned out that he liked Trigger Happy, so he did a cameo for us. We went for a drink afterwards, and I was just thinking, "God, I'm in the pub with Robert Smith!" Then we went back to mine and were sitting there for hours, chatting about Bowie, getting really drunk and I'm just thinking, "Robert Smith is in my sitting room, this is really cool!" The strange thing was, I had to work the next day and the weird thing was that at about four in the morning everything changed, because I started thinking, "I wish Robert Smith would leave," and "I hope he doesn't want to doss on my floor."

    (Thanks Steven)
