Apparently future pressings of Three Imaginary Boys will have 4 pages added to the booklets.  At least 2 of the pages will have the lyrics from the original album  Not sure if it will have the lyrics to the Bonus Disc tracks. (The recently released Japanese Edition has lyrics to all but one of the tracks on the Bonus Disc in addition to the album lyrics.)  And who knows how you will be able to know if the version you buy will have the bonus pages, unless there is a sticker indicating this.  Seems like a shame for fans to be in a position to buy a second copy of the Deluxe Edition.  However, there is a free option: a downloadable pdf file available on the cure's official site.  http://www.thecure.com/discography/cure_3ib_lyrics.pdf "

(Thanks to Chris at The Ideal Copy)

"Just to let you know that Play.com has The Cure's deluxe editions to buy pre-order at £13.99, and Virgin have them priced at £16.99.  Both do free delivery in the UK, and if anybody is not sure about Play.com I find them very reliable as I've bought many cd's/dvd's etc off them over the years without any problems."

    (Thanks Ed)

"CD wow now has the latest round of deluxe editions available for pre-order at EUR17.99 each and free postage."

  • Another charity auction:

  • Celeb auction to aid Strummer music charity

    http://212.2.162.45/news/story.asp?j=137876152&p=137876858&n=137876912

Rock legends are lining up to celebrate The Clash icon Joe Strummer's life at a celebrity auction.

A guitar signed by The Who rockers Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend, drummer Kenny Jones and The Cure's Robert Smith is on offer to bidders as part of the Joe Strummer Foundation for New Music's latest fund-raising drive.

A suit worn by The Clash star Topper Headron is also among the items up for purchase at London's Elgin pub on April 9.

The charity - named in Strummer's honour after his heart attack death in December 2002 - provides rehearsal space and studio time to aspiring artists who otherwise wouldn't have the financial means to record their music.

  • Curespotting:

  • "For us strange breed who like both The Cure & Doctor Who(!), the backing track to interviews with old Doctors on Doctor Who Confidential (BBC3
26th March) was "In Between Days"."

And for those of you who haven't heard, the new Doctor Who airs saturdays at 7pm on BBC1. Confidential airs immediately afterwards on BBC3. Hmm, I think I've just outed myself as a Who geek. : )

    (Thanks Warren)

"Tonight on Australia's version of "The X-Factor", the 16 year old contestant Gemma absolutely destroyed 'The Lovecats'.  I try not to be too critical (as I would never attempt this myself), but her rendition was just awful.  Then to top it off, she told the band to stop playing so that she could tap-dance. The host said he was surprised that she was a Cure fan, to be honest, I would doubt that she had ever listened to the original version.... perhaps she just heard the intro on the Whiskas commercial :-) "

    (Thanks Jo)

"www.remembertheeighties.com has a new exclusive interview with Peter Hook of New Order, in which I saw the galling following!

Q: 'WAITING FOR THE SIREN'S CALL' DOES SOUND LIKE A MORE FOCUSSED ALBUM...

A:  Well again it was that thing that because when we did 'Get Ready' we were really worried... and it was just that thing about not wanting to be
too 'New Order' and I'm sat there going 'Well who the fuck are we going to be then? Please not The Cure!' it was like that - but then when you realised that, it would be good to start again and I personally believe that we could achieve that by looking backwards to Joy Division and writing in a differet way - more guitary, a more organic way, and just starting again. I think we succeeded there very well. As soon as we started playing 'Get Ready' of course all the punters were going 'Oh we miss Gillian, we miss all the keyboards, we miss all the New Orderisms' and all that... and really, truth be told, so did we!"

Haha....the New Order/Cure "feud" continues. Oh well, I still love their new album.

    (Thanks Justin)

  • Robert to do new vocal tracks for old Glove material?

  • "A bit of news from Steven Severin's site that I don't think you posted yet:

All of the Banshees albums will be remastered this year. The plan is to release in batches of 4/5 albums every 3 months. The first batch:- THE
SCREAM to JU JU is being prepared now. Each album will include "bonus" tracks. The hold-up is due to "sourcing" these extra tracks. Obviously,
material from the earlier days is the hardest to find and we want to get this right because once the ball is rolling - we don't want any delays.
BLUE SUNSHINE will be in the second batch. I have found 3 instrumental tracks that Robert is listening to with the possibility of him adding a new vocal. Although pinning him down is proving nearly impossible. Nearly."

    (Thanks Tom E.)

  • There's a new dvd being released in Japan on May 25th called Later: Even Louder. The Cure are included on it, along with Interpol, The Killers, Muse, Nick Cave and many others. No idea what this is, but it could be a collection of performances from Later with Jools Holland. Pure speculation on my part though.

  • Update:
It IS a Jools Holland collection. It will also be released in the UK on May 9th, and includes The Cure's 'alt.end' performance from Oct. 19th, 2004. Check out the full track listing at Play.com.

    "From EastBay Express:

    Okkervil River
    Black Sheep Boy
    Rob Trucks

    Published: Wednesday, March 23, 2005

Singer Will Sheff is certainly not the first white boy to so thoroughly immerse himself in suburban stonerbud angst that he sounds damn near British (see: Conor Oberst, Ben Kweller). So it's less than surprising that every so often he comes across as valedictorian of the Robert Smith School for Sensitive Goths. Not that there's anything wrong with that, because lyrically Okkervil River sounds just about like what you would expect from New Hampshire natives who named their band after an obscure Russian short story. Literate, heartwrenching torment abounds, from the thematically melancholic strain coursing through "In a Radio Song" and "So Come Back, I Am Waiting" to Sheff's vitriolic screams for vengeance as he recounts a forced abduction (I could tear his throat, spill his blood between my jaws, and erase his name out for good) on "Black," the most Cure-like track on a disc more iridescent than its titles would lead you to believe.

    (Thanks Tempest)

    "From The Star Tribune:

Opening band VHS or Beta is another of the new groups that echo Duran's funk-rock style. On disc, V or B could not sound any more like the Cure, especially singer Craig Pfunder, a total Robert Smith soundalike. In concert, Pfunder's strange voice was nicely balanced by huge guitar textures that brought the band to another level."

    (Thanks Tempest)

    "From Newsday:

Unfortunately, the similarly hyped Bloc Party, with its promising debut "Alarm," fell flat at the ever-cool Spin party on Friday. Maybe it was the bad mix. Maybe it was the hardship of trying to follow the super-engaging Futureheads' catchy mix of doo-wop and punk. Maybe the band, which draws a lot from The Cure circa 1980, just doesn't do well in daylight. Louis XIV, who aren't British though their music sounds like it is, also disappointed with their joyless, leaden performance at the party."

    (Thanks Tempest)

"Yesterday i heard Lullaby on Studio Brussels, somewhere in the late afternoon. Apparently they always play "their" version of the song, which is a recording with a "hello, this is Robert Smith from The Cure, and you're listening to Studio Brussels" tag somewhere before Robert starts singing. But the funniest was when yesterday evening I went to Antwerp. As i step out of the Central Station, and walked my way on the street, you pass a lot of restaurants, and on the terras of one of those you could hear "Boys don't cry" coming out of the tiny little speakers. It made my evening, which was perfect anyway..."

  • Here's the english translation of Roger's interview with TceA.com.ar:

  • The Interview's questions by TceA.com.ar
    to Roger O’Donnell.
    03.10.2005
    Title: The Truth in Me

    - Hello Roger, how are you? TceA.com.ar here, thank you to give us this virtual interview.

    - Suddenly, we've found that you are an hyperactive musician... but at the same time there are not too many probes of it!. After your solo album out in 1994 called "Grey Clouds Red Sky", you continued with the unfinished "Big Buildings" and "My Days Beyond" (a DOUBLE album that never saw the light) and another unfinished album, but this time with a band where, as you say on www.rogerodonnell.com, "some old friends were going to play drums and guitar and well, it didn't happen" were those "private" projects? or you did not find the time to finish and launch the albums?

I just didn’t have time to do those things and finish them as I was busy with the cure and other things in life but now I have focused entirely on my own work

     - And now, you participated in the 'Moog Documentary' (2004) soundtrack, you are in a project with the singer/bassist and "multi talented" Erin lang with an album to launch (2005) and your new solo album "The Truth in Me" is right on the way (2005). All this in a short period of time. So, now we can tell, you are an hyperconcrete musician!.

Some times in life you are in a very creative period and others not , right now I am in a very creative time of my life and I want to take advantage of it and make as much music as possible

    - And talking about "multi talented" women... What a surprise that you know Juana Molina, she is well known here in Argentina, not as a musician but as an actress. She went to the US ten years ago, after she did "Juana and her sisters" an hilarious tv show about her (lots of) personalities. How did you know about her?

I love Juana Molina, she makes very beautiful music, I discovered her in my favourite record store in Toronto Canada. She does very interesting things with syunthesizers has a beautiful voice . she is one of my favourite artists , I saw her live last year in England and I loved the show. I haven’t seen her tv show

    - I've downloaded ‘Building 12’, ‘Unused (demo)’, ‘Why Can't You Tell Me’ and ‘Recall The Night’ from chainofroger ;) i mean, chainofflowers.com. Some are so... "midi" ('Unused', 'Building 12') and in the other hand 'Recall The Night' is more ambient, could you tell us more about those songs?

They are from different periods but both use a lot of midi to make them , in fact all midi. I haven’t used midi on the new record its all played and recorded live and I have no chance to edit any of the notes . midi is just one way of working and I will use it again. It does affect how songs sound but they can sound different within that framework , like you said those two examples are both midi but sound entirely different

    - Will "The Truth in Me" have vocals on it? Which instruments did you use?

Yes erin sings on three songs and maybe four , I only used a moog voyager on the whole record all the songs are built up one note at a time , it’s a very interesting process and I create the sounds individually for each song. I start by looking for new sounds , like a painter mixing colours , then when a sound inspires me I look for melodies and then I build the song up from the bottom. The whole process usually takes no more than a few hours. It is very spontaneous. Then I have to write words which is like pulling out teeth haha that’s why there are only 3 vocal songs ! no that’s not true , there are only 3 songs that need or worked with vocals. I have a very strong idea of the melody for the vocal which makes it quite difficult in someways for erin to sing but in other ways its easier for her. Every part of the song suggests itself very strongly to me , I don’t have much choice

    - Was there in the last period of The Cure a moment or reason that pushed you to say "well, this is the moment, i want to say THIS ("The Truth in Me") and i want to say it now"?

after we finished making the last cure record I had to really find where and how I loved music again, I had to re discover my passion for music . I did by listening to all my old favourite records and remembering that music can be so pure and honest and powerful and then I decided I had something to say for myself. Then I discovered this way of working on the moog which was very me and that’s how it happened and I am very happy with it . I don’t think it’s a secret that I didn’t enjoy making the last cure record.

    - You joined the band in 1988 and left in 1990, What did you do between 1990 and 1994 when you rejoined?

I had a clothing shop in Toronto and designed clothes and wrote music

    - You played with Thompson Twins, Berlin and the Psychedelic Furs, but maybe, please tell me if i'm wrong, more as a "session musician" than a member of that bands. Now, you have been in The Cure for more than a decade. Did you contribute as much as you wanted to the band? in which aspects do you feel that you've left your mark?

I cant say if ive left my mark in the band that’s for others to judge. I suppose a simple answer would be , yes it would have sounded different without me . different good or different bad , well that’s your decision. I contributed as much as I possibly could, was it as much as I wanted to contribute …. no

    - Was the primal idea of the cure song "Untitled" from you?

No I think it was simon, why did you think it was me ?

    -  Because hearing one of the tracks, "Why Can't You Tell Me", the keyboards sound like the keys on "Fear Of Ghosts", maybe not, but i hear your "mark" in there. That kind of keyboards wheren't there before the 'Disintegration' album.

    - do you have any plans of touring with your new solo album?

Yes I will tour everywhere that will have me , to every known corner of the earth haha and beyond !

    - You re-edited your first solo album "Grey clouds red sky" and distributed it via internet. was it a hard work? did you do this for maintaining your independence from the big labels, or are you testing the "terrain" for the possibility to distribute the projects to come?

No I wasnt testing anything , a lot of people had asked me for it and it was in boxes under the couch in my studio so I thought I would do it myself but its been a lot of work and im sick of cutting out covers hah. I do hate record companies and it has made me think about an internet release but you lose so much exposure if you do it that way , it needs to be in the shops . it doesn’t matter to me too much about money , I have enough but I want as many people to hear and hopefully be touched by my music as possible

    - What is “99 Times out of 10”?

Its my production company which I will use to hopefully help other musicians as well to full fill there dreams as I have

    - Will you use the same way to sell "The Truth in Me"?

No this record will be in the shops but I will probably sell some signed copies on my site

    - You are the only member in The Cure with solo projects and colaborations with other artists by now. Simon Gallup went to play with Fools Dance when he left the cure. Porl Thompson went to play with Page & Plant when he left the cure. We hope that you are the exception and you have so much to say with music that, even as an active member of the cure, you have the need to do new things... .

so do I, I have no intention of leaving the cure

    - Will you or the band do a southamerican tour ?

I don’t think the cure will tour before a new record is made and that may not be for a while but I have no idea. I usually read what we are doing on chain of flowers !

    - Well, i hope that people here had had a bunch of (good) information about Roger O'Donnell. But i've never done an interview before, so i ask you please if you want to do me the favor and talk about any item that was not asked in this interview, or if you want to say something to the millons of latinamerican readers that are knowing this little part of your huge history as a musician, just do it...  well, no, think different!:

This record “ the truth in me” is very important to me. I have re found the passion in music and this is what it means to me, this record. I have no control over it , it just comes and as such is the truth in me, musically . its everything I have become as a musician. When I became a musician I had a lot of dreams and a lot of them have been lost along the way but making this record and for people to like it would be incredible for me. I have spent all of my career standing behind somebody else , letting somebody else decide what I was to play making their dreams come true. This is my time and I wont compromise it . it’s a very personal thing that I want to share with every one that will give me the time to listen to it

    - I finished the reading of the interview with some sad feeling.... Here is one question that came up to my mind after reading the answers :
What things makes you stay in a place that consume your feelings about music and push in the way to find where and how you love music? it's a terrible situation. what happened to you personally in the environment of the "new" cure album recording? Yes, i've readed some about the robinson attitude..., but i'm interested in you as a musician, leaving a place with the empty feeling that you describe in the interview. I know, or i think that i know, that simon is an "Aggressive" (in the good sense of the word) person. And maybe, he would go in a rude mood in front of a U.S. "you can do it, i will push you to the extreme to take the best of you" guy like robinson. But you don't seem an agressive but a "diplomatic" person. What happened there? What things makes you stay in the cure and stops your (complete solo and definitive) career after that?

i think i have been very diplomatic so far hahah and if you keep asking questions…i might say something i regret about the things you ask…so i will end here ...
    love
    roger

Thank you Roger O’Donnell for your patience and please, excuse my english. www.tcea.com.ar

    (Thanks to TCeA.com.ar)

  • Curespotting:

  • "The Cure have come in at number 278 (Pictures of You) and 483 (Just Like Heaven) in Rolling Stones - The Greatest 500 Songs of All Time countdown.

Pictures of You - "Most love songs are just calculated attempts at commercial exploitation. They're not anything to do with love as I understand it," said Cure leader Smith. After the relatively cheerful pop songs of Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me, he wanted to write The Cure's heaviest songs yet: With this epic of cascading synths and broken dreams, he succeeded.

Just Like Heaven - "I've never been a big fan of irony," Smith has said, which might explain why this reverie of love, cut at a vineyard in the South of France, is his favourite Cure song. Their girlfriends hung out at the sessions, which influenced the music. "The girls would sit on the sofa in the back of the control room and give the songs marks out of 10," Smith said. "So there was a really big femal input."  It was The Cure's first U.S. Top 40 hit.

Brandon Boyd of Incubus rated The Cure's The Kiss number 4 in his top 10 stating that "This was the song that was playing when I kissed a girl for
    the first time."

    (Thanks Jo)

"This is on Mogwai's playlist on iTunes:

"Faith. Probably the most miserable song ever recorded. It was the highlight when we toured with them last summer. Absolutely wonderful."

    (Thanks Lenore)

"On the uk daily free newspaper Metro (on the london underground) on monday march 14th there was an interview with Fearne Cotton (presenter
of top of the pops). She talks about her favourite tracks and one liste, with a photo of Robert, is Pictures of You.

She says: 'this is definitely my favourite song by the Cure. Beautiful. If I am coming back from work and I ve had a mad day, I tend to be
really hyperactive and I play this to chill out'. "

    (Thanks Federica)

"the cure are mentioned three times in the latest issue of spin which has an article called the 666 greatest moments in goth.

1982, the cure's pornography is released.

1988, the cure's robert smith marries mary poole in s sussex abbey, crushing and somehow simultaneously touching the hearts of pale children
    of the night.

2004, the cure reanimate themselves for the curiosa tour, taking mogwai, interpol, and classic goth to the sheds of bush's america."

    (Thanks Brian)

"last night on the history of new music, alan cross started the show off with a live version (from the 2004, toronto curiosa show) of the end of the
world. he went on to talk about "old new rock" and how bands that were popular in the 80's are coming back. he mentioned the cure quite a few times
throughout the show. a repeat will be aired on sunday (20th) at 7pm. you can listen online at www.fm96.com"

    (Thanks Sara)

"The intro to Inbetween Days has been used a couple of times (in loop) on the Australian TV show "Celebrity Overhaul", I almost didn't Curespot this from embarrassment for watching the program, but when they played Cut Here in the background on Sunday night, I thought it was worthy of a mention"

    (Thanks Jo)

    "From The Sunday Herald:

At first, The Bravery seem like a bunch of New Yorkers with haircuts instead of ideas. Fulfilling the grimy rock necessity of being a “The” band, and showing evident love for all things post-punk, they’re so calculated and arch that they sound as if they’ve been built from offcuts of The Cure, Franz Ferdinand and Depeche Mode.

You want to hate them; to tell them to go back to the studio and write a song that doesn’t lift its genetic structure from the early 1980s; you want to tell singer Sam Endicott that The Rapture have already cornered the market in yelping vocalists paying tribute to Robert Smith. And yet these songs get under your skin; they lodge themselves in corners of your brain and appear days later, unbidden and unshifting."

    (Thanks Sara)

"Order of the Stick" is an online comic I just discovered following a band of D&D adventurers in-game.  This one has a cute Cure reference:

  • And so now we're down to using 'Lovecats' to sell cat food:

  • "on australian television "lovecats" is played as the music for a cat food commercial. (whiskas or something) the add ends before the vocals start.
so the fact that the song is about love-cats etc isnt really utilised by the add unless you know the song by the intro."

    (Thanks
    Hunter family)

"I was watching tv tonight and heard a segment of The Lovecats, then looked up to see they're using it in a Whiskettes commercial down here!
Unfortunately there is no singing, just non-lyric edits of the song."

    (Thanks David)

  • Baco remixes The Cure:

  • "Here are some cure remixes I did... http://www.baco.nu/music.html .... they're not technically perfect, not the best ever, but it was fun and a bit of a challenge to make these, without the right tools (aka the MASTERS!). I have a limited bandwidth for free each month of 3Gb, so please be kind with that and don't overuse it... if it goes above that limit, I'll be removing the links for a while. Comments and flames should be sent to curevision@baco.nu."

"Last night (Saturday 5th March) I was flicking through various TV channels, and stopped on BBC3 because I heard The Cure's intro from the Mixed Up version of 'Pictures Of You'.  The programme was 'High Spirits with Shirley Ghostman'.  The scene was somewhat strange - a person performing 'arse reading' as opposed to 'palm reading'!  As this was going on, the soundtrack was again The Cure, this time 'Lullaby' from the Mixed Up album.  I could only tolerate watching this strangeness for about 5 minutes so I could listen to The Cure, then just as I  changed channels I thought I heard the start of 'Just Like Heaven'."

    (Thanks Birdmad Girl)

"this has got to be one of the most random curespottings i've ever seen. playing an online game, and this came up in one of my adventures:

    "You're fighting a disease-in-the-box

You failed to hit the monster.

The disease tries to infect you, but you hum a few songs by The Cure."

being poisoned never felt so good!"

  • Another Missy Elliot / Cure mashup:

  • "I was in HMV London today and I heard a song that I didn't know existed. Missy Elliot v The Cure in a version of her song Get Ur Freak On mixed
directly over Close To Me. It features on a CD that champions the 80s and Hip Hop so there are interludes/soundbites (like they always have on
those type of CDs) of iconic 80s films like Top Gun, Ferris Bueller's Day Off or Terminator. It actually sounded good blasting throughout HMV.
It just has the music, the clapping and Roberts breathing (so everything except the lyrics).

Here is a link to it and the details from the HMV website.
