  • Cure Covers:
  • "I remember reading in the news section of your site something about the group Professional Murder Music performing "A Night Like This" in concert. Well, they have just released to radio a promo EP (called, originally enough, the PMM EP) that contains a radio edit of one of their songs, a couple of demo versions of other songs of theirs, and... a studio version of "A Night Like This". Is it any good? Not really. It's a note-for-note cover, basically, only metallized. If you're really interested, ring up your local college radio station, maybe they can put it on for you."

    (Thanks cHriSsIe)

" I did the Bloodflowers cover (on Pink Pig) and the band name is Nothing. The link is www.matera.net/nothing.htm"

    (Thanks Tim)

  • Curespotting:
  • "Last night, on Showtime's "Queer As Folk", two of the characters (Michael and Brian) were remembering how they wanted to start a band when they were in high school. Michael said, "You were going to be the next Robert Smith". "

    (Thanks Tim)

"MTV did a 2 hour special on their first 20 years (MTV Testimony: 20 Years of Rock). They arrived at the fabulous (ha!) Billy Idol, and showed a clip of Billy Corgan talking about him. He basically said that Billy Idol made it easier for alternative bands and that he deserves his props. He also managed to bring up the Cure, saying that they did basically the same thing (paving the way). They then showed a few seconds of Lovesong and, unfortunately, that was it for the Cure on that show." :(

    (Thanks Mike)

"just one minute ago they played 'maybe someday' in the german tv-show 'girlscamp', which is similiar to 'big brother' - i wonder how someone working for such a stupid show can have a good taste in music..."

    (Thanks Dominik)

    "mar. 18

I was watching the hockey game on tv today (Vancouver Canucks at Atlanta Thrashers) and they started to play "Why Can't I Be You" during a break in the final minutes of the second period. Unfortunately, they dropped the puck and and alas, it was over too soon..."

    (Thanks erica-may)

"The Communications department at Tulane has a big poster of Robert Smith circa 1987 hanging right inside the door over the secretary's desk."

    (Thanks Claiborne)

    March 16th

  • "Just some gossip...a little bird told me that The Cureheads needed a drummer for their US gigs as their drummer is having an operation. Guess who came to the rescue? Robert himself.... he rang around and found them an ideal drummer. So for the USshows, Steve (Perry Bamonte's brother in law) will be playing. The guys say he's a really nice guy and a brilliant drummer. "

  • Cure covers:
  • "German fun-punk-band "Die Ärzte" ("The Doctors") played in Bremen at the Pier 2 on Friday (march 9th). They are really huge here - sold-out shows and No.1 records. Near the end of the show they played their most famous song "Zu spät" ("Too Late"). Die Ärzte are notourious for fooling around on stage and this time the singer/guitarist started halfway thorugh a chorus of "Zu spät" the intro to "A Forest". I think he just wanted to fool his bandmates and the audience - but the band picked up on "A Forest" and they played a short but solid version with the singer singing the "but suddenly I stop"-verse and finally climaxing into the "again and again"-part. Afterwards the band continued to play "Zu spät" as if nothing had happened."

    (Thanks Henne)

  • Curespotting:
  • "I just got my April 2001 issue of Fantasy & Science Fiction magazine ( http://www.sfsite.com/fsf/index.htm ) and found the following notice:

"Coming Attractions: Our cover story for the May issue comes to us from the prolific Paul Di Filippo (http://members.aol.com/jfisher694/ribonet/ribobio.html ), who has a knack for keeping us in tune with the times. His latest story, "Doing the Unstuck," draws its inspiration from the music of The Cure. You don't need to have heard of this group to appreciate Mr. Di Filippo's unusual invasion story, but those of you who know Robert Smith's work will particularly enjoy this issue."

This is a great magazine, so subscribe now if you want to be sure to get the May issue."

    (Thanks Kate)

"Well I was watching a new show on VH1 this evening. I think that its called "Name That Video". Its like the old "name that tune" instead this time around its name that video. And one of the videos to be guessed in the final round happened to be Lovesong....and I couldn't believe it but he actually got it right. He missed one video out of ten (Sour Girl by STP) *sigh* and so close to a new car! Ahhhh!!! after a long day, its cool to hear a tid-bit of fabulousness in a world in which the mainstream is trite and unbearable! "

    (Thanks Emilie)

"Thought this might be of interest to some. The Cure have been added to the 'buyers guide'(artist by artist) on the web-site of Q magazine www.q4music.com (also on the new Mojo site www.mojo4music.com) including a new (short) biography and comments for most of the albums. "

    (Thanks Steven and Martin)

"I was listening to the Ed Tyll talk show on KABZ in Little Rock, AR...and when he went to break they used Fascination Street for bumper music. They used it AGAIN later in the show! So obviously a Cure fan there."

    (Thanks Mark)

"Small instrumental bit from beginning of "More Than This" used as segue music on NPR."

    (Thanks itsgusthecabbie)

"in my travels to a little island off the yucatan peninsula (mexico) i went into a local bar where low & behold a picture of robert appears on the wall. always nice when that happens & where u least expect! "

  • Chicago radio station WXRT will broadcast the Los Angeles (Feb. 19th, 2000) Bloodflowers promo show tomorrow night from 11 pm - 12:30 am.
  • (Thanks Lana)

  • Curespotting:
  • "Just a quick note that "A Forest" appeared on a UK comedy show on Monday called "Trigger Happy TV". The presenter is a big fan of alternative/indie rock usually accompanied by The Smiths,The Deftones, Mecury Rev, Blur, Joy Division, Suede, Elastica, Nick Cave,The Fall, Nirvana, etc.

The show is a spoof documentary which films the general public reaction to certain incidents. The Cure sequence appeared when the presenter dressed up as a sheep in a field of real sheep. The presenter held aloft a sign "I'm a prisoner". A very funny show that was one of his less funny but more political moments."

    (Thanks Steve)

"I went last night to see this canadian band see spot run (www.seespotrun.ca). they were absolutely fabulous, greatly exceeding my expectations actually, a wonderful show indeed. i was speaking to the guitarist afterwards and i mentioned that i saw the cure back in june. he responded with, "oh, i LOVE the cure!!!". ha! another to add to the list.... :) "

    (Thanks Caro)

  • The most important news of the last few weeks is that the band did not go into the studio in Feb. No word on why it didn't happen, and no news as to when or if the sessions will actually happen. As soon as I hear something, I'll post it.

  • The other big story was the Grammys. As everyone knows by now, The Cure lost out to Radiohead as was widely expected. Congratulations to them, and as they always say, It's an honor just to be nominated. And for those who have asked, no the band did not attend the ceremony.

  • French tv will be airing a Cure concert on March 9th:
  • "Canal Jimmy, a French cable channel, will air the Glasgow show (recorded at Barrowlands, Glasgow on 25/08/1984) next Friday at 10pm (GMT). The show will be followed with a documentary on Siouxsie and the Banshees (excerpts with Robert on stage with them) and the Creatures."

(Thanks Bruno, Frank, Philippe and Sylvie)

  • For fans in South Carolina (or worldwide on the net):
  • "I will be hosting a Cure Radio show on March 15, 2001 from 5-7 PM Eastern Standard Time for WSBF-FM Clemson. You can listen to it in the upstate of South Carolina by tuning into 88.1 FM. You can also listen to the event on the web by going to the following address; http://wsbf.net/

From there, click on the listening station tab on the left and then click on the "live stream" bar at the bottom.

I want this show to be fan oriented, and I frequently visit this site. I will be playing songs from all of the Cure's official studio albums and live albums. Due to regulations, I can only play stuff that has been officially released (sorry, no boots). You can send requests to lovemovement_us@yahoo.com

This show is apart of a rotating specialty show at the station which plays a certain band or music form each week in order to "educate" the music listening masses. The rotating specialty show is historically based, but it may not be in chronological order. Please send in your requests and I hope to see you listening on the 15th!"

    (Thanks bj)

Every year lots of fans from few countries gather to celebrate Robert Simith's birthday in Poland. This year the party takes place in Sopot (a very beautiful town, placed by the sea, close to Gdansk). I'm pleased to announce that this year the main star of the night is going to be CURIOSITY! • Some news on Porl Thompson:
  • "by SAM RAPALLO

Robert Plant and his Strange Sensations

With the disbanding of Robert's Priory of Brion project recently, he will now reform with former bandmates Charlie Jones and Porl Thompson in Robert Plant and his Strange Sensations. Dates in Scandinavia are booked for late April, currently beginning on April 22 in Denmark and continuing through Sweden and Norway. His line-up also includes members of Portishead. There are no current plans to tour in North America. "

    (Thanks Mike)

  • Another "best of 2000" list:
  • "In the march-issue of the german music-magazine "Visions" they have announced "Poll 2000", a sort of reader's choice of the last year. The Cure were voted to number 16 in the part "Band of 2000". Number 1: Deftones, 2: Placebo, 3: Queens Of The Stone Age.

Further, "Bloodflowers" has re-entered the Reader's Album Charts on number 29."

    (Thanks Peter)

  • A new compilation cd featuring Just Like Heaven:
  • "A new compilation has just been released. It's called "Les Enfants du rock". "Les Enfants du rock" is the name of a TV program that was very popular in France in the 80s. The Cure have written Just Like Heaven fr this program and the veriosn we could hear at the beginning of the program was an instrumental version, slightly different from the single or the album version. It sounded more like a demo. "Just like heaven" is on this compilation, but it is only the single version."

    (Thanks Bruno)

  • And a change to the April 1st Cureheads show in NYC:
  • "Just a note to let people know, due to the original NYC date being sold out we have moved our date to April 7th at Downtime in Manhatten, which is a bigger venue... The website address for the venue is www.downtimenyc.com "

    (Thanks Gary)

  • Cure covers:
  • "yes, it happened a bit ago, but I finally found the paper I wrote everything down on it was on a Wednesday night at 7:58 PM Pennsylvania station 99.7 FM and The Get-Up Kids, as they are called, performed a cover of Close To Me at 9:00 they did a cover of Just Like Heaven the group itself is a Blink 182 esque form of punk/pop, but they did the covers justice

    (Thanks Mel)

"Just wanted to let you know of an amazing cover of "The Hanging Garden"by a band called A.F.I. They are a punk band from Berkeley, Ca. The song is on their e.p. called A Fire Inside. It is on Adeline Records and it came out in 1998. If you can't find it in record stores, go to their website. http://punkmusic.com/afi/home.html

AFI is an amazing band. Their latest record is called "The Art Of Drowning". Check them out. You will not be disappointed."

    (Thanks Jason)

  • Curespotting:
  • "Hey i picked up a Guitar Player magazine and saw it said "32 Guitarists that defined the 80's" and wouldn't you know, in it was Robert Smith given props for his 6 string bass usage from "Faith" and so on. Also other great guitarist's named were Daniel Ash from Bauhaus and Johnny Marr from The Smiths!! I was very proud to be a Cure fan after i saw that! "

    (Thanks NeVa)

"BBC2 in England currently show a series on Saturday nights about the Eighties. Each week they remember a different year, looking back at the news, music, fashion & TV of the times. This weekend it was 1985 and they had a section about Goths. During this they showed music videos of gothic bands, which included In Between Days. They then played a bit of the Lovecats video and a journalist started talking about Robert Smith, saying how in the eighties he was more responsible than anybody else for peoples entrance into the world of Goths."

    (Thanks Andrew)

"So, I was watching the travel channel last week, when they did a special on Jane Seymour's house (St. Catherine's Court, Bath). They showed all the rooms in the house, including the ballroom where The Cure did their recording. Jane mentioned that The Cure had been there twice to record albums (and they showed an older pic of Robert) and that Radiohead had recorded OK Computer there as well."

    (Thanks Xebeche)

"on february 22 triplej did a count down of the 40 greatest debut singles (had to be released prior to any album releases). the chart was compiled by the presenter (richard kingsmill) but input was also taken from listeners. the cure came in at number 15 with killing an arab/10.15 saturday night. the full chart can be viewed at http://www.abc.net.au/triplej/jfiles/files/s250771.htm "

    (Thanks Andrew)

"Today i had to watch this video on the history of the internet in my MIS (management Information Systems) course. At one point they discussed this company who had to have entertainment to ease the wait of people who called in seeking technical support. They had a DJ who was playing the talking heads' Psycho Killer .....and up next on his list was The Caterpillar."

    (Thanks Justin)

"I was in the Hard Rock Cafe in San Francisco celebrating my friend's birthday when they played a video of the Cure performing Just Like Heaven LIVE from their Hard Rock Show in Las Vegas. It was just the thing to put all of us in the mood for a great night in the San Francisco."

    (Thanks Mathys)

"This is nothing important at all, but I am quite sure that none of the fans that visit 'a chain of flowers' have ever seen this cure-related illustration. I found it back several weeks ago in my old 'souvenir box' that I rarely open. And I finally decided to show it to you because I know that, in addition to other bands and cinema (with director Tim Burton), The Cure influenced as well american cartoonists. But in Europe, the style of the drawings of comic books ('l'école franco-belge' - the 'franco belgian school') is very different from the american style, as you can see. The illustration here was made by quite a well-known duet, Tome & Janry. They draw the adventures of 'Spirou', a funny series but full of action, and another series called 'Le Petit Spirou', which in fact shows the youth of the hero (the character on the right), also quite funny. Well I find it funny but I don't know if a lot of Cure fans find 'Calvin and Hobbes' as funny as I do, for example.

This drawing is issued from a 1989 diary given free with the issue #2646 of 'Spirou Magazine', a weekly comics paper (Dupuis Editions, Charleroi-Belgium, and Paris-France) fully illustrated by various artists of the magazine, and dates back to 28th december 1988. It's funny because the cure fan of the illustration really reminds me of myself thirteen years ago, and in the diary I found back the note I wrote on the day of June 14th not to miss The Cure in concert in Grenoble. What a brilliant concert it was. It's such a shame I can't do my hair like this anymore..."

    (Thanks Fabien G)

"While On www.brunching.com I stumbled upon "Cancel Jams". Its where people emailed the Brunching Shuttlecocks titles of songs that are opposites. Here is what peoples emailed.
