Until then, here are Robert's comments (from the Jan. 99 issue of Alternative Press) about the new album:
"According to singer-songwriter Smith, this album is like an index to all of the Cure's previous releases. 'It's almost like I'm winding up and going over the subjects that have interested me over the years, trying to distill what I've always wanted to say and how I feel about things at this point in my life,' he explains. 'It sounds very heavy, with lots of guitars. It's quite loud and sort of dark ...
"'It sounds like old-fashioned Cure; it falls in the canon alongside Pornography and Disintegration. The kind of obsessive listener who was into those albums will like it.'
"Songs that Smith expects to make the
album include 'Fall' ('which will probably be the biggest, rowdiest song
we've ever done'), 'Side by Side' (a 'bleak' tune, according to Smith)
and 'Just Say Yes,' a fairly upbeat number with a dark twist. But don't
expect any obvious radio singles. 'There aren't any real Cure pop songs
on this record,' says Smith. 'Lyrically the songs are about despair, loss,
lack of faith -- those subjects. So, musically that's reflected by music
that's in a minor key. We have used guitar sounds and feedback that have
been used by other bands before, but it's not something we've used."
"Pink Pig is a project that came out from the love and devotion we feel for The Cure. The idea is to give Robert and the boys a millennium gift from us, the fans. A way to say THANK YOU for all these years of magic. Our intention is to get fans from around world (musicians or not) to cover all the songs written and recorded by The Cure throughout their extensive and prolific career. This is, literally, ALL of them: album tracks, B-sides, soundtracks ... everything!. The result will be Pink Pig: The Whole Cure in the Mirror, a compilation of all the covers edited and transferred to Cds (we'll also design the cover art). The pack of Cds will be sent to each member of the band as a gift at the end of the year.
(Note: This is a non-profitable project. In case anyone is interested in getting the Cds, they will be available upon request at the cost price (around $2/Cd))
Sooo.... did we get you excited?
If you're interested in participating (or just curious), visit our web site. There you'll find more info about the project, the rules and registration steps together with the complete list of Cure songs to choose from."

"Just bought the new edition of German pc magazine 'PCgo'. amongst other things, there is a special about mp3, and they used some screan shots of the programme 'sonique', on one, you can easily spot they started to encode 'wild mood swings' to mp3, as 13th is mentioned as mp3 file and club america as wav file... on another screen shot, it says 'cure2_060489_Faith', so they are burning the classic version of the gig in rome onto cdr..."

"Lol Tolhurst & Andy Anderson of The Cure will be playing the Knitting Factory on July 1st. They'll be performing new and old remixes of Cure songs as well as new material from their new band, Levinhurst. Plus Cure related films and a memorabilia signing session.

The following story appeared in The Globe Online: Date: 06/25/99
Headline: After Cure, Tolhurst in 'proper mode'
Story Intro: Lol Tolhurst spent more than a decade as a rock star. He was the co-founder, with Robert Smith, of the angst-ridden British new wave dance band the Cure. They rose from cultdom and clubs to selling millions of records and packing arenas. For Tolhurst, a dru! mmer-turned-keyboardist, that ended in 1989, when his former pal, Smith, sacked him for substance abuse. ____________________________________________________________

The Cure hit the studio for latest LP
The Cure last week put the finishing touches to their untitled- and rumoured to be last- album at Genesis' Fisher Lane Farm Studios near Guildford with producer Paul Corkett, for release this Autumn.
A source describes the material as "for Cure fans", sounding similar to The Cure circa Pornography from 1982.
