Having seen the cure at Wembley, me and my girlfriend thought that one dream tour show was definitely was not
enough so decided to make the trip to Belgium. It was well worth it. After being entertained during the hot day by
Gomez, Eeels and Travis (cool to see Travis so close up after a packed Glastonbury), the torrential downfall
seemed to add to the atmosphere of the Cure's show.

Although I expected a more singles based setlist, the choice of songs seemed  to go down really well (The Cure's
uncompromising nature is what makes them so special). I can't speak for the whole audience because I was right
at the front and couldn't see that far back but the werchter crowd was so much  better than the wembley crowd.
Everyone around me were massive cure fans and had been to previous dream tour shows (shouting out the
upcoming song before they started playing it!). So instead of the reserved wembley audience, everyone was singing
and dancing in one huge celebration. One fan had a "snakepit" sign but knew after "the kiss" he wasn't going to
hear it. My "push", "last day of summer" sign got destroyed before the gig started by the rain! Best song of the
night for me was "sinking" but I did miss that microphone camera.

It would be a massive shame if the cure split now. I've seen them 20 times since 1986 and this tour is the best I've
seen them play. Simply breathtakingly brilliant.

A big hello to the lovely dotmusic chat people I got to meet. Anyone feel free to email on nige9@hotmail.com

here's part of an article of Belgian newspaper 'De Morgen' about the Cure's performance at the Werchter
festival:

On the strong closing day mainly Counting Crows, eels and headliner The Cure were the highlights, while Live ran
off with the public's award.

(...)

It tells something about the popularity of Ed Kowalczyk* that ten thousands of fans defied the heavy weather to
see their hero at work again**.
They also stayed afterwards to wait patiently until The Cure closed the festival. Backstage a trespassing was
marked off, so that the group could stride to the stage in a real atmosphere of grief, as walking behind a coffin.
Robert Smith and his companions were there when in Roskilde eight Pearl Jam fans lost their lives and for a while
it seemed that also The Cure would have preferred to deal with this traumatic experience at home. But they
showed up, albeit with a set list adapted to the circumstances. The concert was built up around the sombre material
of the difficult to fathom 'Bloodflowers'.
But the Britons show up the best in this kind of circumstances and thus succeeded even in drawing the public's
attention for nearly two hours with an unpredictable and inaccessible set full of songs that lasted for around ten
minutes. Those who expected a 'greatest hit' concert shouldn't have bothered, but unknown tracks like 'Sinking',
the sublime 'The Kiss' and, a bit sarcastic after the flood of an hour before, 'Prayers for Rain' were welcomed at
least as warmly by the fans. Only during the encores De Genezing*** played some of their monuments; '10:15',
'Just Like Heaven' and the closing song 'Killing an Arab' right at the end turned the grassland into a gigantic open
air disco, also because the beats of Moby banging in the distance gave an extra rhythm to the songs. A great
closing performance for a festival which seemed to have only really started at the final day and, which despite all
setback****, literally and figuratively kept its head above water.

* Singer of Live
** Live played on saturday AND on sunday (replacing Pearl Jam)
*** 'The Cure' was translated to the Dutch 'De Genezing' at this place in the article.
**** The cancellation of the Eurithmics concert and the Pearl Jam concert and the flood during the second
Live-performance

There is today a (short) review of the Werchter show of The Cure in the newspaper Le Soir (Brussels).
The show of The Cure is said to be one of the best of the three days of the festival (amongst Sandy Dillon, Eels,
Lamb and Moby).
The sound of The Cure is also said to be perfect and powerful. The Cure delighted but didn't suprise, and induced
waves of enthusiasm only in some occasions, for example during "One Hundred Years".
Maybe because it was the end of the festival and many people were tired ?!?

Almost everything is already said about the concert at werchter, but i would like to give you my impression of this
concert:

mouth wide open - tears in my eyes - hair rising on my arms - cold shivers on my spine
Cure on Werchter: amazing beautiful! Went home very quiet and with almost no other feelings than the deepest
respect for this band. If this really was a goodbye, it was one in style.

Despite the tragic events at the Roskilde festival, they played an awesome show, starting at 22:00 and ending at
01:00 am.

Personal highlights: From the edge…, The Kiss (Robert really knocked himself out on his “Gretch blackhawk
guitar”, he enjoyed himself big time! I seemed to me that the other bandmembers noticed this too), 100 years
(deadly sharp and gloomy) and of course the quartet they finished with after the short break. Especially Killing an
arab was played on the razor’s edge. A pitty it had to stop. The crowd was wailing, the band was cooking..,
everything seemed to be right. After the “thank you and good night” the band left the stage, except for Robert who
stayed a short while on the edge of the stage (he did the same at the end of the Rotterdam show, april 19th 2000).

One last gaze at the huge enthousiastic crowd.., just to remember.., how it feels to be this alive...

The concert has been very intense and powerful; the band seemed to be into it a lot, the only regret is that it was
very short if compared to dream tour shows. But quality has well replaced quantity. I won't make another song to
song review, as those that are already there are good enough. The best part of the show for me has been the one
in the middle, from Shake dog Shake to Bloodflowers: the higher point being The Kiss, not to be believed how
much powerful it sounded. The crowd was a bit flat in certain moments; this might just be a personal feeling, but
after some songs that sounded so good i would've expected more enthusiasm.  As it seems, this has been the last
concert; it is not known wheter the last ever or the last for this year, but it's been enjoyable just being there and
having another dream weekend.
I would like to thank all the people i met for being there, those who i couldn't thank personally after the show,
those who were with us at the hotel bar for being so nice, the belgian police "in the middle of the night" for
showing us the right way to ... home and least but not last Roger, Perry, Daryl.

This dream always ends...

I think this fits the Werchter performance very well. Never in my life I've been at such a massive festival, and I
can already confirm, I'll never go again to such an event... I don't know why they chose Werchter instead of
headlining an event like the Eurorock festival, which is much more about what The Cure are... (at least the old
Cure...) 60.000 people in one field, quite dangerous, also, the security was the worst i've ever seen in my whole life!
and all this after the fiasco in Roskilde. I mean, hardplastic mats as on the field in front of the stage is okay when it
doesn't rain, but it did, and it wasn't very safe + people start crowdsurfing and building payramides... and security
gave a f*#+ about it, nice how many more people have to die until something changes???

But now on to The Cure, it was the worst show I have seen on this tour, I think, a totally expected (I posted this
set minus 3 songs on Holy Hour discussion board before) set. The only good thing was the energy Simon put into
the show, which was more than incredible, jumping around totally crazy in contrast to most Dream Tour shows.
Don't know if Robert lost his ideas for announcement, but after all this time to announce just 'Loudest sound' as a
new song is meagre! The standard problem of festivals is always the sound, which was okay in general, although
the keyboards were too low in the mix during the first songs + Robert's 6-string bass was not very prominent
during 'Loudest sound'.
As I said, expected setlist, and, as we all stood there before the show for more than an hour in the rain & thunder,
it needs a bit more, especially, if you still have in mind it could be the last show - so, lacklustre is what I would call
the performance. I was more than disappointed, even though I went there with no expectations... hopefully it is not
the last gig, as this would leave a bad taste, so you can call it just another show.  performances of the songs were
okay though, Robert had some trouble with 'Shake dog shake', and he exchanged the lyrics to 'Bloodflowers' by
singing 'this dream always ends' already at the beginning. persona faves included '39' for obvious reasons, as I felt
it descripe the show very well, 'Loudest sound' and 'The kiss' (astonishing version!). Worst of all was the encore
(the same words Robert mentioned I mentioned to some friends before, I knew it would be happening), and just 1
song of Pornography/ Faith/ 17 seconds simply isn't enough! oh, and one thing... I found it more than tasteless to
play 100 years after what happened in Roskilde (obviously not The Cure's fault, of course, but anyway...).
But in respect of everything that happened there, I would have prefered (I love the song...) to leave it out at least
this time.
So, a very disappointing weeked for me, which was only saved due to meeting almost all the people I met on my
14 Dream Tour shows again...

Excuse my poor english, but the time I learned English is far away now...
After Lille Paris Strasbourg and Marseille, I was so happy to go to see The Cure, 2 months later, but I knew it will
be different.... and it was : This is the story of an eprouvant day but what a beautiful day !!!! I go with my sister to
Bruxelle at 9 pm to find the hotel of The Cure (we  wanted to try to see them after the show), we found it and after
then we had looking for OUR hotel ...but we've never found it ...we were completely lost in this town : I had a
"rendez vous" at 11 pm with a friend to Werchter, but we also arrived in 1 am.... We were tired and nervous....
We had decided to watch the concert on the front (as usual) so we began to wait at 5 am...the others group didn't
interest me and the public was completely mad... and then it began to rain and rain and rain, so we were completely
wet. The cure came at 11 am : it was so incredible to hear again the Dreamtour...I was so happy, I can't explain it,
I could have cried... Roger Simon and Perry seem to be pleased to play (I couldn't see Jason) and Robert was so
touching...They play all the songs they know we love her during the dreamtour; A perfect version of The Kiss (with
Robert's solo more than nice)...Prayers for  RAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIN (Iforget to breathe every
time I hear this) a very good Killing an Arab ....I would like to be there again...it was so amazing that  I forgot I
was wet and I was hurt... All the Bands said Good bye and Robert said a long Good bye, as if he didn't want to go
back. After the show I realised that I couldn't walk, and my sister had to go to the "croix rouge" : we were
completely frozen. Finally we slept in my car, but we haven't got any clothes warm and not wet :it was the most
horrible night we've ever lived... I pass detail .....on the morning we were going to the Hotel of The Cure (we had a
rendez vous with a friend). As we arrived the Band just appeared. We were only 4 fans and it was magic...Simon
and Roger were very sympatic and nice.I've just seen Jason 1 second but he went on quickly and I've never seen
Perry. And then Robert came and we took photos, a friend gave him a present and Robert signed autographs...I
would have said a lot of thing to Robert but the world didn't came in english. So I've just looked at him, smiling
foolish... And they took their car....
I had always saw them in their hotel in Paris (it was a perfect day), then Robert signed me a photo during the
concert of Marseille (it was so incredible, I can't explain my gladness....my eyes were full of tears) and I saw him
after the show. So to have the luck to see them again in Bruxelle ....I can't believe it...
I also want to say that the Robert's "watchman" (I don't know how to say "garde du corps") is really nice...
Robert if you read me I just want to say THANKS THANKS THANKS Thank you for the concerts for your
patience with your fan....Thank you to make me so "out of this world", so happy. I love The Cure since 15 years
and I will never forget those days. It was a perfect dream, unbelieveble. Thanks to THE CURE . Thanks Roger
Thanks Simon Thanks Jason Thanks Perry Thanks a lot.
Don't stop The Cure you will be always the best in the world.............

Review by Christian Jehke

Cure in Werchter... Strange evening! The first disappointment came three weeks ago, when it was posted that
Cure would only play for 90 minutes. That would have been a very short evening. I thought about it much in
advance how they would shorten the set and I really came to no conclusion. Maybe Want, Loudest sound, Prayers
for rain, 39, End and one random song out off the main set and only the Peel sessions as an encore. Well, we would
have to see.

The second big letdown were the sad sad things that happened in Roskilde. I was looking as much forward to see
Pearl Jam play as Cure, because I had seen Cure now three times on the Dream tour and it wasn´t that urgent any
more. But then I felt bad because I thought so, because what is me not seeing PJ play live in comparison to the
grief surrounding the deaths of eight people?

Wercher was sold out, and many people were there for Cure, coming from France, Germany, the Netherlands etc.
to see them one last time. From the 90,000 there were 35,000 three day-tickets and 55,000 one day-tickets sold,
which shows the large number of people who came for just this particular event.

The (one-off) festival setup of the Dream tour was very well thought of, they didn´t have the projections, but a lot
of lights hanging from the ceiling from different angles, which made it all really big looking, using the whole stage
and stuff. Roger had two sets of keyboards put up, so I was happy because that meant either Trust or Cold, so
there was at least a slight chance I would get to see Cold in concert at last. Adagio for Strings started at 5 to 11,
and immediately the big advantage of that gig became obvious: It is great to hear all the Blooflowers songs on a
100,000 Watt festival PA that is turned up to 11. It sounded so much richer than Cure´s own PA, it was really an
experience. And the sound was right from the beginning on, it was just so good. Loud, but good. Second big
advantage were the video screens on the sides of the speaker. It was really like a concert movie, nice shots of the
stage, of the audience, and they even tried out things like filming candles in the audience and mixing them through
Robert´s pic on the screens during the slow songs. Hope one day the proshot will get out.

OOTW: So much louder than on the Cure´s own gigs, I enjoyed it.

Watching me fall: By far the best performance I have seen, and that due to the sound. A song that has so many
hidden things going on, and now they´re crystal clear over the PA.

Want: A song I thought they would cut because of the time restrictions. As always

Fascination street: As always

Open: Now I really began to wonder what they planned to do. A long song eating up precious time, how would they
do all this in 90 minutes, what would they cut?

Loudest sound. WE GOT THE FULL SET!!! If not earlier, it became obvious here. I had mixed feelings. On the
one hand, it meant that the Cure would certainly play more than just 90 minutes. On the other hand, it was the
same old standard set again. I decided to be happy! By the way: Loudest sound sounded really good and was
inspired. Never liked the song nor the live versions I heard before, but yesterday, I digged it. Nice six-string solo.

Maybe someday: While the Cure´s speaker were set up, some radio program was played over the PA, and on
came Maybe Someday. Very funny, the crowd sang along. Now this song was played by the band on stage.

Shake dog shake: Agressive. Robert was ha ha-ing in a very evil manner before the band launched into that song.

FTEOTDGS: Stadium rock: the floodlights went on and at least 30,000 people had their hands in the sky.

Inbetween days: Of course went well with the festival crowd, which wasn´t really that bad after all. I realized no
differences to the Cure´s own crowd at the Dream tour. At least there were no people walking away bored or stuff
like that, and the applause was big inbetween songs. Robert jammed around on guitar before this like he used to
do in the old days, it wasn´t a recognizable song, but at least famliar behaviour.

Sinking: Oh well, it was good, but I was witnessing a song by song blueprint of the Oberhausen show, the last one
I attended before.

The Kiss: Introduced exactly like in Oberhausen. "The is a song from the Kiss me album, it´s called the Kiss".
But it´s always great to hear and benefitted last night a lot from the great sound.

Prayers: Different! Robert played over the intro with his Kiss-guitar, some nice melodies. The raaaaaaaaaaain
part was short, Robert was short of breath. The end was very long.

100 years. Good as always. 100 years is also stadium rock, but of the more unusual kind. The big audience and
the lighting made it huge...

39: No End! Yes!!! Always thought this song was too much. So the signs were for the US 16 songs main set... We
already were over the 90 minutes of playing-time, but Cure didn´t show any signs of wanting to cut it short.

Bloodflowers: Second time that robert spoke to the audience. As always: Last song for this part, this is called
Bloodflowers... Beautiful. After 1 hour and 50 minutes, they left the stage. the applause was big.

Just like heaven: Well, it was a festival after all, and at nearly one a clock in the morning, there had to be some
kind of curfew. Robert came nearly running back on stage and said: Well, I´ve just been told that we´re very
short of time and such, because it´s a festival and blablabla (that was really funny, he seemed to be annoyed of
not getting to play longer), so we´re gonna go through the encores really quick.  But Simon had already started
Just like heaven, which was played fast as hell and went directly into Boys don´t cry, 10.15 and killing an Arab.
Of course, the audience loved it and everybody was screaming and shouting. During 10.15 and Killing, my area
became a mosh pit, with many people slamming around and bouncing off of others. I thought it was fun and
participated. Everybody had a great time. And then it was over after 2 hours and 5 minutes, 35 minutes more than
scheduled. After the last beat of Killing, the fireworks came directly and illuminated the misty Belgian countryside.

Well, what is left to say? It was great that it was so much longer than expected and that it sounded and looked so
great. Although the setlist was uninspired, the performances of the individual songs were quite good. Now I had
seen the first two shows (Madrid) of the Dream tour, one show inbetween and the last. I certainly cannot complain,
although it was the first of my eight Cure shows throughout my "career" where I did´t get to hear songs I hadn´t
heard before live. There was no Forever as many people expected them to play, but the band actually seemed to
have thought that they could play a normal 2:45 show, so who knows what was planned, as they had the second
keyboard already set up. I thought also that Robert would make a reference to the tragic things in Roskilde, as
many other bands yesterday did, but he didn´t. Werchter? It was good.

As we know since the begining of the Dream Tour, The Cure live are great ! The last show in Werchter confirmed
that feeling: this was another great show ! The band played very well, all of them ! I mainly mention Simon's bass
that have that particular sound that gives to the songs all of their dimension (for example on Sinking).
The only thing I regret is that the set-list was like many others of the tour (I'm still upset not having heard Siamese
Twins or All Cats Are Grey). Actually, the main set was exactly the same than the one played in Oberhausen (one
of the show that I seen). They dared play Prayer For Rain when 2 hours before they began to play there was a big
storm ... I was pesonnaly completely wet ... Anyway, the good surprise was The Kiss, always impressive and strong
with that never-ending wahwah guitar solo. The other great moment was the singles encore, specially 10:15 and
Killing An Arab.
Perhaps the set-list was not the ideal one for a festival (except for the encore) since many non-fans were attending
but the fans that were there (and there were many) really liked it !
Perhaps the last show of The Cure (since a long time) but a VERY good one !!!

Review by Nico

Amis Curistes, dormez tranquilles, The Cure n'est pas mort !

I was very glad that the band decided to play the regular dream tour setlist.  However I can imagine that other
people who didn't know the band must of thougt it was extremely dark.  The Kiss sounded great, and eveybody
seemed to like this song.  Personnally, I was very happy to hear Open for the first time, especially with Roger on
the guitar. The rest of the setlist was no surprise to me because it looked a lot like the one from the promo show
in Brussels.

Both performances from Simon and Teddy were great, and Jason's drumwork seems to have improved a lot. The
crowd really started to dance when inbetween days started (it's a festival remember).  And with the encores I
think almost everybody was dancing and singing along.

So it was a brilliant performence, but it was a bit sad to see this wonderful setlist at a festival.

Comments by Gianfry

It is a strange thing to see the Cure playing after other groups because even if it is such a different music, one get
to compare their performance with the others. I think that the setlists the actual Cure are playing it is good only if
you are a huge fan. It doesn't really fit with a Festival audience. The crowd just enjoy the pop singles, such as
"Inbetween Days", "Just Like Heaven", "Boys don't Cry".
But back to comparation I must say that the Cure sound is very powerful and loud. It doesn't maybe get clapping
or waving hands during the songs, but it does touch you deep inside. No big surprises for this show, apart maybe
for The Kiss, which got me paralized.
Before the only encore Robert said: " unfortunatly as it is a festival we don't have much time and we have to
speed it up".And in fact he wouldn't even finish saying it that the drums for Just Like Heaven started going.
Shake Dog Shake was very impressive. hhmmm.......veeery impressive! So was Killing an Arab. Again,  I leave
this review by saying that the Cure sound is very strong, and always I hope to have the chance to see them again...
