Review by Scott Zumsteg

"The Cure decided not to compete with the legend they created the night before at Zillo, and it turned out to be the
perfect complement. Unlike the dreary Foggy setting of Zillo, Woodstage was a different sight, in a city park
surrounded by a duck pond. The Cure probably have not had ducks at a show since Crystal Palace at the Garden
Party in 1990. The weather was also quite warm and muggy and it was clear they would play much of the show in
daylight as they were to go on at 9pm (it was usually light till 10pm at this time of year). All together a very
different vibe. As they came on to Out of This World, and the re-introduction this tour of Want that tonight would
be a different evening. Simon's bass has some loose inputs and it created a horrible racket in the PA all the way
throuh Open. While I dont think it annoyed the fans much, the band were dismayed about it to the point where it
seemed they felt the evening would be percieved as a failure based on the first couple songs. But usually when
Robert feels like its time to throw in the towel it loosens them up to where they can come back and play a really
good show. "Baby Screams" was excellent, as I was surprised at how well the vocals came off. "Night like This"
was played nice and fast like it used to be, and sounded quite together. It was so nice to see a different opening
to Lullaby even though not sure how much of it was by accident or not, although the tape in the background made
it clear it was based upon the Extended mix. It was not the customary Perry and Robert standing 2 feet from
each other leading in with guitar and 6 string bass. Last Day of Summer was done flawlessly, which was another
event that lead Robert to beleive the evening could be great. While I am not a big fan of Wathcing Me Fall, its
much better late in the set than early, and only seeing it once this tour was better than 10 times on dreamtour.
End was the dreamtour style, I always wish Robert would play more guitar on it like he did in 92, its too much
percussion these days and not enough guitar mayhem. The vocals dont work as well when there is not a sea of
guitar in the background like there was in 1992. "Bloodflowers" seemed quite good this show as well, slighlty
more together than even at Zillo
It was great to hear the debut of Cut here . It came off pretty well, probably not a song they will still be playing
10 years from now, but a nice cross of pop and cure style music. Then the songs that have been played 10 years
before and will still be played 20 years from now. Lovesong, Inbetween Days and Just like Heavan had all the
black clad spiders jumping up and down. Then back to do the 2 cover songs Faith Healer and the Thin Lizzy
number, that both came off great and the band seemed to be enjyoing doing them. To me the show highlight was
the unusual version of a Forest. Trying to beat curfew Robert slammed into the song right away with the Silver
solid body guitar he had used for the encores vs the usual Red or Black Chet Atkins style he customarily swithces
to. As the first few feeback intense notes came out Robert had a look in his eyes like he could really have fun with
this guitar on this song. The song had an energy not there in awhile as it sounded totally different with this guitar,
to the point it lead us into a very long and experimental forest that even went back Wish tour style with simon
brinigng the song back up right before it was oringally supposed to end while Robert was down on his knees
creating all sorts of new sounds to close it out. So two perfect days, two completely different shows, and all in all
a great trip around the world to see the Cure. Its a shame that no matter what we do in america, we simply will
never get cure shows like that. There is just a vibe overseas that cannot be recreated in dry dull ampitheaters
with assigned seating. So again I look forward to next year to hopefully see the Cure in the part of the world they
play best."

" I was lucky enough to see the Zillo and Woodstage shows and was really impressed with both the setlists and
performance. I expected to hear different sets but to get 39 different songs was amazing.
Although it seems that a lot of fans prefer the darker Zillo set with its Pornography/Faith/17 Seconds songs and
personal favourite "Push", the Woodstage setlist was also excellent with a great mix of album tracks and surprise
singles.
The audiences for both festivals were very different. It felt more like a celebration at Woodstage with a lot more
of the crowd singing, dancing and jumping. Both the band and audience appeared to be enjoying themselves more
than at Zillo. Highlights for me included a rocking "The Baby Screams" and the premiere of the sublime "Cut
Here".
So if The Cure are uncertain of what to play at Hyde Park, I suggest they simply add the Zillo and Woodstage
setlists together for a fantastic 4 hour set!! Happy Birthday to The Cure, 25 years old and still the best band in the
world.
A big hello to some cure fans I saw there:- Kerry, Tom, Steph (Busfart Crew), Vicky, Sylvia, Leo and Lisa.

"Everyone was surprised that The Cure played a completely other set than yesterday except for three songs
(Bloodflowers, A Forest, One Hundred Years). The main set was quite like what we all know from the Dream Tour,
but contained some nice surprises like The Baby Screams, which I saw played live for the first time, Prayers For
Rain, one of my personal favorites, and Lullaby with drums and synthesizers like in the Mixed Up version.
The band was in a very good mood and it didn’t matter that they had some serious technical problems (Robert’s
guitar on one song was tuned wrongly, Simon’s  amplifier connection broke down completely, band members were
nearly falling over wires and so on). Finally Robert said that the audience must have thought that they had taken
some acid and after everything that could go wrong went wrong, it was now his time to f*** up. But then he
played a perfect Last Day Of Summer and the rest of the show was excellent. They surprised the audience with
the ‘first ever live played’ Cut Here, which I already happened to see with full playback on Top of the Pops last
year. And it was the best version I have ever seen, better than any original, remix or acoustic version.

The second encore began with the Sensational Alex Harvey Band and Thin Lizzy cover versions. Simon there
must have changed his opinion concerning ‘f*** Rock ‘n’ Roll’.
At last, A Forest was a great closer, played hard and loud and even more powerful than the evening before.
Another highlight was Robert and Simon kissing at In Between Days."

"Two years after Werchter I was really looking forward seeing the guys on stage again.

The Cure opened with a great played Out Of This World, followed by Want, the first unexpected song of the
evening. The next surprise came with Lullaby. They used the persussions of the Extended Remix which was a
nice idea, but it was quite obvious that the band didn't practiced that song very much, because, in Roberts words,
they "fucked it up". Unfortunately there were some problems with Simons bass during the first couple of songs as
well. That's the reason why Simon (who looks a bit like Luis Figo now, *smile*) couldn't play his solo-part between
Tape and Open...which was sad because this is one of my favourite moments of a Cureshow.

Knowing the setlist of the previous shows I didn't expected End, Fascination Street and Lovesong either. But the
best part of the main set came with a great played A Night Like This and The Baby Screams. I never heared this
song live before - people went crazy, including myself!!

The best part of the whole show was to hear the band cover Alex Harcey and Thin Lizzy. These two songs
sounded so fantastic that I now hope The Cure will continue playing such songs on their shows. It felt very good
to see them trying something really new. And of course it was nice to hear the debut of Cut Here. I like this song
very much, but it sounds quite strange live.

The last song was a suprising version of A Forest. I know the different versions of A Forest the band played
over the years, but this one was new. It started without intro but included a very long middle-part and ended very
differently. A great way to finish a gig which was a great, but by far not my best experience with The Cure.

The audience was good, but not great. I think about 10 000 people saw the show. Also the festival was that small it
wasn't sold out which is kind of disappointing I think. Probably most of the German fans made their way to Zillo
Festival instead. Anyway, I hope it won't last another two years to see The Cure again!"

"After the great ZILLO gig we never thought about another great setlist: But there were only three songs which
were played the evening before. The band was in a very great mood, every member was smiling to the crowd.
They started with a great 'Out of this world' and went on with 'Want' and 'Prayers for Rain'. The first surprise of
the evening was 'A night like this' in a very emotional version. Right after that, the second surprise followed: a
rocking 'Baby screams'. 'Lullaby' started with the drum sample from the extended mix and was warmly welcomed
by the crowd. Robert commented Simon´s problems with his turn 'to fuck up' this time. Simon had a lot of problems
with his P.A. The rest of the show was a normal Dream-Tour set, '100 years' was another one of the highlights of
the evening.

After a long applause,  the band came back to introduce 'Cut here' to the audience. The song sounds a lot better
live than on record. Right after that the crowd sang along to the three singles.

At the beginning of the second encore, Robert introduced the 'Faith healer' and 'Don´t believe a word', but this
time the crowd seemed a bit irritated. The band was enjoying the songs and Simon and Perry (who looked a lot
better than yesterday) were giving everything :) 'A Forest' made a great finish for a very remarkable and great
concert. They played an extended version of that one.

All in all, a very great concert, not really as touching as yesterday, but great. A big thank you to all the people we
met there, especially Leo & Lisa, Marie, Frau Schmidt, Mandy und Werner Wernersen... Hope to see you all in
London...

So i say...THANK YOU FOR THE MUSIC! (ABBA RULES)!

"Afer joining the great Zillo-Show I was in a really calmed mood for Woodstage, so I just let it go easily this
sunday. The Cure present a very grateful setlist to those who saw them the day before, ‘cos they played a
completely different show. The band seemed to have much fun on stage, being in an easier mood than at the
Zillofestival. The first Highlight was a deep Night Like This, together with The Baby Screams quite "rocky".
Robert talked a bit more than other times, I heard something of "acid in the bus.." so I guess they had no fun on
playing the darker songs- which wasn’t a pity in thought of the day before, which couldn’t be topped somehow. At
the encores they started surprisingly with Cut Here, which layed a high spitit over the crowd, everyone danced and
enjoyed themselves. This was underlined by the next three "easier" songs, watching Robert‘s and Simon‘s kiss at
Inbetween Days. At the second encore the Cure rocked first with a great Faith Healer and finally ended with
Robert’s fantastic guitarplay at A Forest – all at their best. I couldn’t imagine a better weekend with the Cure,
performing two different shows in two brilliant ways. "
