"The Cure played an awesome concert at Arvikafestivalen
on thursday the 11th of july, they played on the first
day of the festival 10pm infront of a crowd
consisting of about 7000-8000 people. Easily the most crowded concert
during the whole festival.
It was a great show although I personally would
have preferred less songs from Bloodflowers and at least one
from Faith. Robert Smith voice was totally
wonderful as was all the performance of The Cure this night. Nice that
Robert changed the lyrics of The Figurehead
to feature swedish girls instead of american girls :)
Also to be noted that The Cure played for about
2 hours to compare with every other band on the festival that
only got to play around 1 hour. That tells
a bit of what a huge status The Cure's got on a festival like
Arvikafestivalen."
"Cure get to play a long and intensive gig.
It lasted over 2 hours and they (and us!) really enjoyd it! There was
only about 14,000 people in the festivalarea,
so it was easy to get on first row, and being my first cure-gig it
was...unbelievable..."
"The Cure played an awesome show at Arvikafestivalen
infront of 8000-9000 fans at the biggest stage of the
festival. It was really,really crowded.
A fantastic concert plain simple! Nice that
Robert Smith changed the lyrics on "The Figurehead" from "I can
lose myself in Chinese art and American girls"
to "I can lose myself in Chinese art and Swedish girls"..."
"I'm sorry to hear that no one has sent you
any reviews from arvikafestivalen. Maybe they'll come tomorrow, since
the festival ends today.
Anyway. On Arvikafestivalen's homepage (http://www.galaxen.se)
there is a section where people can submit their
own reviews of the concerts. There are some
short comments about The Cure's concert. They are all in Swedish
so I'll try to translate them:
First there was some non-fan saying that the
concert was incredibly boring. And gave it the grade 0/5... not
surprising.
Then there was some one that said that it couldn't be reviewed and gave it 5/5, but no comments.
The last one contained some comments. Not much
of interest though. It was sort of an answer to the one who said
the concert was boring. Here's a translation:
"Listen to the music.
Not everyone can appreciate 2 hours of dark
and slow music. [...] a) I'm not complaining about the stage-show. It
just fits the music. b) I'm not complaining
about the choices of songs. It's the kind of music that has been most
typical through out their carreer. The performance
was - after all - brilliant." 5/5
Ok. I realise that there's not much substance in those review. Maybe it's better than nothing. Maybe..."

"Just fantastic! On the main stage (Vintergatan)
in Arvika, just after "The Mission" finished on the other stage.
The sound was great, it was just a little
bit to much light outside (at 10pm). In the middle of "Watching me fall"
i
realise that this really could be a great
concert. "The Figurehead" was fantastic, the rest of the concert was just
like heaven. The band really seemd to enjoy
themselves too, and the preformance was excellent, much better than
last years preformance at the Roskilde festival."
