Review by Crystal

"The following is one of those redundant concert reports that I blasted a year ago or so. The Ministry of Rock
Festival gathered together the mellowest Cure crowd I've ever been a part of despite the things we endured just
to experience the music live.  Most obvious was that it rained and rained and rained some more.

And to on top that off our senses were pummeled by Gotthard (Gottawful), a surprisingly popular Swiss group
that does something akin to renditions of Bon Jovi, Scorpions, VanHalen, etc ...  I cannot express just how horrible
they were and how dramatically different their whole presence was from the Cure's.  Robert even took a crack at
them after a break.  He said they'd taken a vote on doing a drum solo and it was unanimous 5 to 0 against it.

I could hear virtually every word Robert sang and spoke.  The music was coming out of the speakers at such a
wonderfully tolerable level that we could fully appreciate the live sound.  We were standing directly in front of
Perry and we didn't even need earplugs -- or flame-retardant clothing.  I'm not saying Perry isn't as hot as a
super nova, I'm just saying that the Gottawful's pyrotechnics were über-extreme and we were a little too close for
comfort.

Special Cure treats were:

I thought I'd die with Plain Song as the opening song.
Torture (Robert's show of empathy for his audience)
Trust
a Thin Lizzy cover

PS:  We enjoyed Cake too.

PPS:  We intended to camp in a tent but at 2:30AM in the rain putting up a tent was too difficult to manage
and we slept in the car."

"That was my 28th cure concert i've seen in my short live and i was never ever more confused like that after a
gig! they played in such a good mood and matter... after a sensational plainsong they played shake and
figurehead and i was already done! then some kiss mes and disintegrations and some wish and back to old school!
at the end 39 and bloodflowers in a very interesting version!

the encores topped everything: 3 immaginary boys, m and a real nice play for today before a forest ended
everything... but no! they came back to do two covers, great!!

I don't care about the before (shitty swiss bands) and the after (saturday and sunday) i am still happy to have
been part of that and will be in london for the hyde park show!!"

Review by Greg Freund

This was a very suprising evening!

After waiting for hours in the sun , followed by heavy rain and listening to the worst bands I ever heard finally
The Cure entered the stage at 23.50 swiss time. They must have heard about your poll and your birthday contest
because the setlist reads very unusual. After "Torture" Robert came to his mic (for the first time (if you don't
count the well-known "Hello" in the beginning)), grinning , almost laughing, and than he said something like
"not very obvious, I think" - I can't imagine that he was talking about anything else than the setlist...

– here it is in the right order:

Plainsong, Shake Dog Shake, The Figurehead, Open, Torture, The Kiss, Pictures Of You,
Lovesong, Trust, Watching Me Fall, From the Edge of the Deep Green Sea, 100 Years, 39, Bloodflowers.

First Encore: 3 Imaginary Boys, M, Play For Today, A Forest

And then something happened I never had thought of: Robert came back and said something like: "We‘ ve
never played this song before, I have no idea if it will work“ and they played their second encore: first a cover
version of an old song by "The Sensational Alex Harvey Band" called "The Faith Healer", followed by another
cover version of the Thin Lizzy classic "Don’t believe a word".

Faith Healer was great! But I'm not impartial - Faith Healer is a song I always liked a lot. It was very funny to
see them perform it. They had to watch each other to get it right, it was a bit like an amateur school band. But
they played it really good, and of course they don't made it sound exactly like the original. It was their own
interpretation and it was a very nice one! I think it was pure fun for them, especially for Robert. I never saw him
like that. He was in such a good mood and I swear that he wanted to go on with the show. We were in the front row
and so we could see right in his face after he came back when the other band members were already gone. He
shrugged his shoulders and looked unlucky. As I said, I'm sure that they were forced to stop due to any stupid
law reasons or something like that. It was almost two o'clock in the morning.

This was a fantastic set, I'm still exhausted from screaming ;). Personally, I think that the most brilliant versions
today were Plainsong, Shake Dog, Torture, The Kiss and Bloodflowers, and of course the encores!

The band was in a very good mood. Robert was laughing a lot, smiling down at the fans and kidding with Simon.

When they had finished Robert came back to the stage front and it seemed as if he would like to play more but
they had to stop, probably because it was too late."
