  • The special edition cd/dvd of Placebo's 'Meds' will feature the Canal + performance with The Cure:

  • "This is from a story in Music Week (Jan. 28) about the promotion of Placebo's new album due out in March. It says Virgin is releasing a special edition of the album: "Placebo's special edition will offer a DVD, containing a documentary filmed by Trainspotting actor Ewen Bremner, which follows the band to promotional events, and a TV performance for Canal+ with The Cure's Robert Smith. It also contains a virtual booklet featuring lyrics and a photo gallery and an extended 40-page booklet in case-bound packaging."

  • With friends like this... :

  • "In the french magazine "rock and folk" (N°462 - february 2006) there is an interview of Richard Bellia, the famous french photograph of the Melody
maker magasine (UK). He made a lot of photography of The Cure in 1982 and he's a friend of Robert since this périod.

"I'm still friends with the Cure. Recently they changed the line-up and asked me to shoot them [...]. This friendship ravish me. I exchange a lot of mail with Robert (Smith). he has health problems, he inflate like someone lost his hair. his look makes me sad.""

Can anyone provide a better translation? That last bit doesn't make much sense.

    (Thanks Johan)

  • Pink Pig update:

  • "thank you very much for the sustained enthusiasm and the faith on the project. All the songs of the present 'Pink Pig Update: The Rope is Long Enough' have been reserved and are in the recording process. There are no songs left! For those of you who wants to record a Cure cover for Pink Pig but couldn't reserve a song on time, we remind you that in ninety days some of the songs already reserved may be available again. This may happen if the people who reserved a song do not deliver the recorded version in the term of three months.
You will also have another chance of doing your cover once the new Cure album get released. We'll make the new songs available one month after the album's release date. Of course all b-sides of new singles and the known outtakes from the new sessions will also be included in the present update.
And a last thing: remember that the project has new sections and we invite you all to take part: the pink pig wall of word, the pink pig song and the tibetan book of the pigs. Lately in the year we'll announce details of the forthcoming 'Pink Pig World Tour' (we hope everyone get involved in this!).
Visit us at www.pinkpigupdate.com.ar or www.pinkpigproject.com.ar
read all abouth the update and write, record and deliver a song titled 'pink pig'! Everyone can do it. Everybody must!
Thank You Thank You Thank You again and again and again and again and again!"

    (Thanks Germán and Juan José)

  • Some of you seem to have missed the news about the 4Play release on iTunes (check the Jan. 11th update). And here are a couple of articles about it - Ultimate Guitar, Gigwise, and Digital Spy.

  • Mogwai talks about the Curiosa tour:

  • From Scotsman

"The reality is that Mogwai have played up and down the States regularly over the years, putting in the necessary groundwork that now appears to be paying off. Having said that, the band's last US tour wasn't exactly a slog, as they found themselves opening for childhood heroes The Cure on a travelling mini-festival.

"They're a band I've loved since I was knee-high to a grasshopper, although I'm not much taller than that now," says Braithwaite.

"That was great fun, we were treated really well, a lot of our friends were on that tour, like Interpol and the Rapture, and we made a lot of new friends too. Robert Smith really liked us, and it went down well with the crowds."

    (Thanks Tempest)

And while we're on the subject of Mogwai:

"Also, for those, like me, who appreciate MOGWAI and had the chance to see them playing live during the Curiosa Tour, the new album "Mr. Beast" will be out on march 6th. I have a promo copy of the album and I must say that this is the best ever album from the scottish band ! Please go and see them playing live during the European tour this spring, it's a big experience !!!"

    (Thanks Jerome)

  • Curespottings:

  • "In Jan 24th's episode of CBS's new show "Love Monkey", the character Julia is asked to name her top 5 songs. #2 was "The Cure - Just Like Heaven" (Hey, this show could be ok...) I think #1 was Bob Dylan's Vision of Johanna.

And a quite random one:  In a driver safety training video for new employees of the world's largest drug company, "Mint Car" is played when they show how a "good driver" handles a vehicle.  Just gave me an unexpected chuckle...."

    (Thanks Lisa)

"Cure was featured in a comic strip in Swedens largest daily newspaper last week."

    (Thanks Birx)

"During the Olympic snowboarding trials on NBC, they played Mint Car as the backing music to a short bio clip of one of the snowboarders.  They played about a minute or two of the song, and loud enough so you could actually hear it."

  • Curespotting:

  • "Here are a few Curespottings ! All about the US series "One Tree Hill" !...

    First one :
"Apart" was used as soundtrack in the 19th episode of the 1st season called " What Is and What Should Never Be"… Check this out :
    http://music.onetreehillweb.net/episode119.html

    Second one :
The 18th episode of the 2nd season was called "To wish impossible thing"... Doesn’t that ring a bell ? :) As u can read here :
    http://www.tv.com/to-wish-impossible-things/episode/313866/summary.html

”The title [To Wish Impossible Things] refers to The Cure's from the 1992 album 'Wish'."

    And finally…

    Third one :
In the 10th episode of the 3rd season (aired last wednesday), Ellie and Peyton speak about Cure music and specially about the Disintegration and
    Wish albums !…

    Here's a transcript of this sequence :

Ellie : cure fan ? (handing Peyton the Wish album)

Peyton : ewwww… up until this album !

Ellie : come ON ! "Wish" is a great record !

Peyton : No... "Disintegration" is a great record... "Wish" was pretty much the end

    Ellie : oh really ?

    Peyton (nodding) : huh huh

Ellie : you can’t tell me you don’t get chills everytime you hear the violon on "to wish impossible thing"

    Peyton : yeah everytime...

    Ellie :  but ?

Peyton : but... i don’t remember the day

    Ellie : the day ?

Peyton : yeah you know it’s like... like with "Disintegration" i remember the very first time i heard that record... you know like i remember everything about that day, the weather outside, the smell in the air...it’s just i remember all of those things and that’s because that day i fell in love with something

Ellie : you fell in love with an album

Peyton : no... i fell in love with  music... (silence) so speaking of The Cure, are you in remission ?

(the conversation goes on about Ellie’s breast cancer...)

It seems like the creator of this series - Mark Schwahn, who btw is also the head writer - is a true Cure fan... don’t u think  ?? :)

(thanks to my sister who gave me this information as well as the transcript !!! You rock lil’ sister ! :p) "

    (Thanks

"I went to see Mogwai at the ICA in London last night (January 13).  During the main set Stuart Braithwaite (guitar/vocals) was wearing a hoodie, but
during the encore he was wearing a black Cure T-shirt (circa 1985)."

    (Thanks Crystal816)

    From the Mercury News

Stine was the guy who saw David Byrne and Talking Heads in a New York club, and had the instinct to know that Byrne's unconventional screech
of a voice could actually sell records. He saw past Cure founder Robert Smith's makeup and knew the English mope star was a hell of a songwriter."

  • New '4 Play' Cure compilation on iTunes (UK) includes 4 new interviews and the re-recorded versions of '3IB', '17 Seconds', 'Faith' and 'Pornography' from the Mike Hedges sessions last year, when The Cure was a trio of Robert, Simon and Jason:

  • "It seems like the Cure have done something special for iTunes: the 4 tracks TIB, 17 seconds, Faith and Pornography have been re-recorded. The package is called '4 play' which includes some interviews about the 4 preview Deluxe editions and also couple tracks from it. But, as always with iTunes, you could not buy this album if you're not living in the UK!"

  • Cure videos and tv appearances on You Tube:

  • "Came across a great website http://www.youtube.com which lets people upload old TV shows for everyone to see. Searching for The Cure on there
turns up quite a few results...this one is good, with some interview footage from the Wish tour and Just Live Heaven live circa
1989: http://www.youtube.com/w/The-Cure---just-like-heaven?v=RTvspn-_2Bw&search=cure. It made me misty eyed with nostalgia, especially Simon's 'prayerman' hat :-) "

  • Dragon Hunters now airing saturday mornings at 11am on Cartoon Network:

  • 11:00 - Dragon Hunters

Another French production, this time from the FuturIkon studio. Dragon Hunters is a wild mix of Last Exile, Skyland and Dungeons & Dragons, with maybe a flavor of Asterix The Goth for seasoning. Set in the distant future, Earth has been shattered into a cluster of floating islands by all manner of monsters the natives collectively call dragons. In this world resides two dragon hunters, the conniving Gbwizdo and the super warrior Lian Chen. The two slay these monsters for a living, but in these futuristic medieval times that's a lot easier said than done. A remarkably smart show, don't be surprised if this one becomes a truly huge hit.

"Dragon Hunters is pure, fun, comedic story-telling," says Higgins. "The dragons come in all kinds of shapes, sizes and temperaments. These amazing creatures populate a fantastical world which even has floating islands in the sky! If that's not enough, for music fans, the series comes complete with a great theme song by The Cure."

At present, CN is probably going to be devoting an incredible amount of its resources to insure this new block gets off the ground. Then again, if it is successful it stands to reason it will be expanded on.

    (Thanks
    Catterpillarboy)

  • Curespotting:

  • "Thursday 1/5/06, under the category Literary Rock and Roll, the clue was something to the point of "The Cure's "Killing an Arab" was based on

"PS2 has released "Singstar 80's" A game where you can sing along through a mic to 80's classics. As you sing you can see on the screen how good you are singing. The Cure's Just Like Heaven appears on the game.

    (Thanks JC and Frazer)

    From the Seattle Times:

"One year, 7,000 songs and a dozen Prozac refills later, I completed my wretched task. I can safely say that there are way more than 50 depressing
tunes in the world, and the Cure has recorded half of them. I ended up stretching the list to 52 songs just to make room for Harry Chapin and that
    scary chick from Evanescence."

    (Thanks Axel and Christine)

"Funny quote regarding retirement of Tana Umaga as captain of the All Blacks...

"Boys don't cry, so the song goes. But All Blacks do when their captain tells them he's just played his last test for his country.

That was the response of several of Tana Umaga's team-mates when the All Black captain informed them following last November's Grand Slam-clinching test victory over Scotland that he was stepping down."

    (Thanks Matt)

  • Fender Bass VI reissue for sale:

  • "I'm looking to sell my Fender Bass VI reissue from the mid 90's. Being a huge Cure fan for many years, I bought it with the sole purpose of playing my favourite songs... but now, I need to part ways with it. Believe me, if not for the sake of love I would never let go of it... but, a slightly overly expensive engagement ring calls. We do what we must for the cause :) Anyway, its in great condition and plays great too. In fact, you can hear it at myspace.com/therainythursdays by listening to an old song of mine, "Yearn". there's only minimal wear, one paint blemish (which isn't really noticeable from on stage) and is missing the original tremolo (but, no one ever uses that anyway). It includes the original Fender case, too. Again, its in great shape overall and plays really well. I'd like to sell it for $1,200... which is a really good number in comparison to what people get onEbay...but,
I don't necessarily want to go through all the trouble and again; I WANT A CURE FAN TO OWN THIS! It would make parting ways with it a lot easier for me. I might be willing to go a little lower than $1,200 if you make a good enough offer. Obviously, you pay the shipping...like $50 through
UPS. If you're interested in knowing more...just e-mail me at Smdpwtrasu@aol.com ... and I'll send you some pictures. Thank you and happy holidays everyone!"

  • Curespotting:

  • "Last week's Dutch tv magazine "Veronica" contained two interesting items about The Cure. First of all they had an interview with singer/actress
Hilary Duff in which she was asked what music she listened to nowadays and amongst others like Gwen Stefani, Muse and HIM she also mentioned
The Cure. In the same magazine they also listed the Radio Veronica Top 1000 of all times which was broadcasted last week. Unfortunately The Cure only had two songs in that list. "Close to me" was a new entry at number 360 and "A Forest" fell down from last year's 215 spot to number 245. Let's hope that 2006 brings them back in the spotlights again.

"Actor, Jared Leto puts The Cure-Fascination Street in his Itunes Playlist

"Fascination Street" (Track 6): "Atmospheric. Moody. Dark. Makes me want top ut on lipstick and fishnets. Enough said."

"Tonight I was watching CNBC news and they had "LULLABY" playing as background music on a news story."

"Jereme Rogers, a skateboarder for Girl, DVS, etc., was on the relatively new "action sports" show, The Daily Habit, on Fuel TV.  On that show,
pros are able to request a couple music videos.  Jereme's picks included One Hundred Years from the Trilogy DVD.  An unusual selection, particularly for that show, that I thought was neat.  The video is truncated, but appreciated nonetheless.  The show repeats from time to time on Fuel TV."

"A mere few weeks and yet another promotional item for Israeli TV (channel 2 this time, a short promo for upcoming shows) uses a cure song: the first few lines of the chorus of 'Friday I'm in Love'", vocals and all."
