  • Another option for getting an UltraCure guitar:

  • "I just read James' review of the UltraCure and I wanted to make sure if  people buy this guitar that they buy it through Drum City Guitarland.
    http://www.drumcityguitarland.com/

I live just outside of Los Angeles and I ordered my UltraCure from these guys and I got it the day they were released in the US, well over a month ago.  They only charge $15 for shipping and they have a great relationship with Schecter.  They will also get the UltraCure cases any day now.  I think Schecter had a problem with the original cases and the guitars didn't fit properly.  So if anyone is interested in this guitar, check out their site and give Jason a call."

    (Thanks John)

  • A review of the Schecter Hellcat VI:

  • "If your looking at this *guitar*, then most likely your looking for that "Cure Sound". The Hellcat VI definitely would serve that purpose. You can get a lot of that definitive Disintegration sound (Lullaby, Pictures Of You, Last Dance etc...) Make sure you have a chorus, and delay pedal. You can also get that Primary (Faith) sound, and Inbetween Days (Porl-esk sound). This sounds a lot like the Fender VI. You can thank Perry & Robert (as well as the guys at Schecter for being "out there" for putting this out. I bought it to get that “Cure sound” and it does. I didn’t see Robert playing one at Curiosa, but maybe he will next tour. Anyway its an amazing guitar (but plays a lot like a bass) and for the current price of basically $499 you can’t go wrong. I don’t know why this wasn’t the Robert Smith signature, because when you think of him you think of the VI sound, but anyway I think both guitars (Hellcat VI, and UltraCure) are great, props to Schecter…"

    (Thanks -L.J.-)

  • Another review of the UltraCure guitar:

  • "Schecter Robert smith ultra cure signature series guitar review

    Pictures http://64.60.145.203/1/ultracure/uc.htm
After a very long ordering process, I finally got the new scehcter ultracure guitar yesterday, First I have to say ordering this guitar is quite a process, as schecter does not sell directly to the public the only place in los angeles you can order this from is guitar center of course, which when it comes to special ordering is horrible. I had to spend a week on the phone with both schecter and guitar center.
The guitar now goes for 699 but due to all the problems in getting it I only had to pay 599. And though it was a nightmare it was well worth the wait. The guitar to start with looks amazing, the body design is incredible, bigger than a standard guitar it looks very impressive and very original,
Robert Smith designed the body and you can completely tell, its got a very classic cure look, pictures can not do it justice. And any cure fan will immediately love the details.
The headstock designed like no other features Roberts signature and an ultracure nice little plaque, on the backside the cure is written in the new
band font, And while though the headstock is a little bigger than most tofeature these details, I think it just adds to the unique look of theguitar.
The neck features moon and star pearl inlays (I forgot to take a picture of all the different shapes sorry) and is larger than most guitars, allowing for
easy playing of high chords and great harmonics, a must for any guitar that's going to carry the name of the cure.
While I have read one review that said the sound left something to be desired I totally disagree. The sound is full, rich and distinct. And running it through my JC-120 bypassing my pedal board and only using the reverb and jc-120 chorus you immediately can get the signature Cure sound, I have a boss GT-3 and I'm sure with some tweaking of effects and some amp simulation I'll be able to reproduce cure sounds from every era with this guitar. If you're looking for the Robert smith sound, this guitar will not let you down, And if your just looking for a high quality, great unique sounding guitar for your own personal music, I would highly recommend this one, I will be rerecording some of my own songs this weekend with it (if anyones interested in hearing the guitar check out my site http://www.broaddaylight.cc next week, this has definitely become my main guitar for both recording and live ( I usually play an Epiphone Les Paul and an Ovation), finally I have to say the action on this guitar is by far perfect, and I will have to find out what strings schecter ships it with cause they blew me away. Robert Smith as outdone himself'
    10/10 sound
    10/10 playable guitar
    10/10 looks"

    (Thanks James)

  • 3IB Deluxe to be released in Japan:

  • "Just wanted to tell you about Japanese edition of the re-mastered album "Three Imaginary Boys". It'll be out on 9th February 2005 and officially
    titled "Three Imaginary Boys + 21 <Deluxe Edition>".

OK! "+ 21"! It must mean it has 21 bonus tracks! Don't you think so?  But its track list is thesame one in European or American editions with 43
songs, so I asked the Universal Japan which song was the 21st song?  And they told me it's the last song in the first disc, that's called "The Weedy
Burton"!  I told them that it's originally included in the first edition released in 1979 but they didn't know about it and even didn't admit it! I'm not sure if they did try to cheat their customers by the misleading title, but surely, some of Japanese Cure fans must misunderstand it and buy  Japanese one in terrible high price (almost 37$)...This is trickery!"

    (Thanks To the sky)

  • Curespotting:

  • "I was watching the "Greg the Bunny" TV series DVD (an unfortunately short lived FOX series). During the episode "dottie Heat", Greg, who has a crush on Dottie, goes to Dotties house to rehearse a number for their kids show. When Dottie opens the door, you can hear "Love Cats" playing in the back ground...quite prominently. The song is played for most of the secene as well. Get this DVD, It's hilarious!!!!"

  • Curespotting:

  • "There are a few Cure references in the latest RS (Gwen Stefani cover).

    Here goes:

In a preview piece on the new Garbage CD, they describe one of the new songs as follows: "Run Baby Run which has tender, dreamy verses that calls to mind the Cure's Just Like Heaven.

In a small piece where artists describe their dream concert bill, Gwen Stefani says "The Cure with Madonna, but she could only do the hits."

And in the review of the two new Bright Eyes CDs, the describe the CD I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning, saying it is plowing ground between The
Freewheelin' Bob Dylan and the Cure's Seventeen Seconds."

"In the film Junk which is an adaption from the novel by Melvin Burgess. In a part of the film as some kids are taking drugs Boys Don't Cry is playing in the background.

    (Thanks Lips)

"saw the item you had posted about the new album of music from the new Dom Jolly World Shut your Mouth series showing in the UK currently.
Just to expand slightly; the format of the show is a series of 'candid camera' type sketches when Dom plays a comical character of some sort
tormenting the general public.  The Lullaby track is played during sketches when Dom plays a depressed gothic chap with full Robert wig and make-up, black attire and big black goth boots etc. He wanders up to unsuspecting pensioners and tells them about how depressed he is, his dysfuntional gothic upbringing etc.  They tend to reply with very sympathetic advice about 'cheering up' and 'making some friends etc'.  Dom then wandered off singing the words to A Forest.    (all very funny, depsite the way i tell it here!)"

    (Thanks Rich)

"On HMV.co.uk's site Client: Carl Barat's (from The Libertines) latest single 'Pornography' gets the following review...

This is the new single to be taken from the new album 'City' by electro duo Client. A sexy ode to monogamy, 'Pornography' is Carl's first project outside The Libertines and is an instant electro rock classic, sounding reminiscent of the Cure's 'Love Cats'. The single also features a video by acclaimed French animators Schmooze."

    (Thanks Steven)

"found this on anne clarks (www.anneclark.com) official web page in the questions and answers section:

2.) Have you ever met and exchanged opinions with Robert Smith, Wayne Hussey or Andrew Eldrich? Do you like them?

    - No, I have never exchanged opinions with Robert Smith, Wayne Hussey or Andrew Eldrich so I can't say if I like them or not! However, my tour
manager once stole some soft pink toilet paper which apparently was solely for Mr. Smith's use!! That caused a few problems!! However, The Cure's "Pornography" album is one of my all time favourite ever albums. I have met many people though whom I once held in high esteem. All I can say is Never Meet Your Heroes!!!!"

    (Thanks Drews_boo)

"I was watching the weather report on German TV RTL and they played "Why can't I be you" for background music - quite a happy song for promising rain!!!"

    World Shut Your Mouth

Dom Joly, star of Trigger Happy TV, wreaks havoc once more with a new show based around situationist pranks, hidden cameras and mischief-making. Trigger Happy TV spawned many imitators, but now the man himself returns to raise the bar. World Shut Your Mouth moves the whole genre forward - visually and stylistically ambitious and featuring entirely new characters and set-ups, but all with Dom's recognisable and uniquely absurd sense of humour behind it. In World Shut Your Mouth, Trigger Happy TV grows up, and becomes aware of the big wide world it lives in. This time the targets are the people and institutions that make up the 21st century establishment. From the Atkins Diet to Harry Potter, Reality TV to celebrity chefs, Britart to Politics, the show takes the stance of a mischievous outsider, targeting anything zeitgeisty that needs a kick in the chops. Each episode will feature regular idented strands and recurring characters, as well as Dom's trademark random acts of comedy.

The new series will run on prime time Friday nights, 10.30 pm BBC1 (Jonathan Ross slot).
As With Trigger Happy TV, this new series will feature a great soundtrack, compiled by Dom himself. The shows will feature tracks including, Julian Cope, Snow Patrol, The Beta Band, The Velvet Underground, The Clash, The Stranglers and Ian Brown & The Cure.

    (Thanks Chris)

  • Not as sad as when WOXY went off the air, but now WHFS is gone too:

  • WHFS Abruptly Changes Format

Pioneering Alternative Rock Station Now Spanish-Language

    By Teresa Wiltz
    Washington Post Staff Writer
    Wednesday, January 12, 2005; 4:48 PM

The Washington-area FM radio station WHFS, long a pioneering purveyor of alternative rock, did a programming U-turn at noon today by ditching the genre for a Spanish-language, Latin music format featuring middle-of-the-road superstars such as Marc Anthony and Juan Luis Guerra.

WHFS-FM 99.1, the radio station behind the popular alt rock music festival called "HFStival," is now "El Zol," featuring Caribbean and Central American music, according to a prepared statement released by Infinity Broadcasting, the station's owner.

Spanish Broadcasting System, Inc., the nation's largest Latino-controlled radio broadcasting company, served as a consultant on the reformatting of the station. Infinity and SBS have formed an alliance, with Infinity owning an equity interest in the Florida-based company.

The abrupt switch came as a shock. Since 1969, WHFS has served as the arbiter of cutting-edge rock in the Washington area, introducing listeners to acts such the Cure and the Violent Femmes.

The HFStival has grown from an offbeat spring festival to a nationally-recognized Bacchanalia that last year offered 36 musical acts spread out over three stages and a techno hideaway called the Buzz Tent.

"Certainly this will have major ramifications for new music in Washington, D.C., said Seth Hurwitz, the owner of the city's 9:30 Club and producer of last year's HFStival, which drew 65,000 fans to RFK Stadium in May.

"They were always the forerunner for presenting new music," he said of WHFS. "They were a vital fabric of Washington's culture."

"lastest issue of uncut has an interview with siouxsie where she says of robert:

"why's he on the cover!" demands siouxsie sioux. "fat fool!"

"he" is robert smith and "the cover" is that of uncut's sister publication nme originals, their recent edition dedicated to goth. or "goff" as the erstwhile queen of punk snorts derisively. maybe siouxsie has never fully forgiven the cure frontman and one-time banshees guitarist for deserting her band on the eve of a 1984 world tour. as smith recently told uncut, he was diagnosed with cronic blood poisoning and quit on doctor's orders. siouxsie's having none of it.

"it wasn't like he became ill" she complains. "he was one of those people who just didn't say no to anything, so when it's self induced it's hard to have
sympathy. to actually say two days before a tour that's been planned in advance that he can't do it - fuck off! what a lightweight". "

But tell us how you REALLY feel Siouxsie. : )

"Siouxsie Interview from Record Collector Jan `05 Incl : complete Uk discography

RC : Robert Smith had two spells as a guitar Banshee. Does he appear on any B-side ?

Siouxsie : He did the "Whole Price Of Blood" but that was like an out-take. He was hanging out with Severin a lot when we were doing Dreamhouse, and so i saw him a lot as well. He really wanted to be involved with the band. i could tell. Who wouldn't, with such a fantastic band ? I think it certainly taught him a few tricks ! . . ."

  • Hey, I'm not dead or sick or anything like that, the lack of updates is due to a lack of news. It's just really slow right now, so no point in updating everyday just to post a Curespotting. When/If things pick up, I'll go back to more frequent updates.

  • KROQ is having a "Big A$$ Auction" to benefit the relief agencies who are trying to cope with the devastation caused by the recent earthquake and tsunami. Among the items offered are 2 autographed vinyl copies of 'The Cure'. As of this posting, the bid is up to $335. Most surprising is that no one has bid on the chance to "hang" with Depeche Mode in the studio while they record their new album.

  • An article about David Fargier and his Cure bokk 'After The Rain':

  • "Cet article ce matin dans Le Parisien (french newspaper) dans le cadre d'une série sur les fans.

    http://www.leparisien.fr/home/loisirs/article.htm?articleid=245953433

The Cure.

"In the computer game Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines there is a bar called "confessions." When you talk to the bartender for the first time one of the responses you can give, which is intended to be an insult, is "Are you the bartender or a groupie for The Cure?"

  • Official 3IB release party...a month late:

  • "I know this is a late release party for the 3IB Reissue but I think it's because the Rhino Records Rep. took a while to get an autographed poster by
Robert, worth the wait for one lucky winner I guess. This will also be The Curse's first show of 2005 as well as our first time pairing up with "SPELLBOUND" a Siouxsie tribute band. Details can be found at the Club London website: http://clublondonla.com/calendar.cfm"

"Here are a few brief album mentions from last month.

    Dec. 18 Ottawa Citizen
    Three Imaginary Boys *** 1/2
    The Cure (Elektra/Rhino/Warner)
A very expanded reissue of the Cure's charmingly youthful debut, recorded long before Robert Smith started applying raccoon-eye mascara and blind man's lipstick. The bonus disc of period rarities makes for uneven listening, but has immense curiosity value.
    Jordan Zivitz

    Dec. 23 Australian Herald Sun
No. 9 on albums of the year list by Cameron Adams
    The Cure
    The Cure
As U2 did with All That You Can't Leave Behind, here The Cure relished in being The Cure, particularly with a dozen bands now also trying to sound like them. And after the none-more-bleak Bloodflowers, The Cure  rewound back to their wonderfully twisted and disturbed pop of the late '80s. Cruelly ignored on the charts, this has everything you want from The Cure -- the guttural cries of Lost  or Us or Them to the majestic dark pop of I Don't Know What's Going On.

    Dec. 31 Pittsburgh Post-Gazette (http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/04366/434918.stm)
from Top 10 list by Scott Mervis
    10. THE CURE, "THE CURE" (GEFFEN)
With so many bands wanting to sound like The Cure, Robert Smith comes back to show how it's done. But the band's 13th record is no mere nostalgia trip, as the passion is real and white-hot.

    (Thanks Lenore)

"Here in France, the radio station France Inter program 'C'est Lenoir' hosts (on which THE CURE recorded a session that was aired last month) have posted on their site their top ten records of the past year.  Bernard Lenoir didn't pick up The Cure but Michelle Soullier, the programmer, did:

    Michelle Soulier

THE BETA BAND - Heroes to Zeroes
    LAETITIA SHERIFF - Codification
    RACHID TAHA - Tékitoi
    THE CURE - The Cure
THE DIVINE COMEDY - Absent friends
DOMINIQUE A - Tout sera comme avant
VIVE LA FÊTE - Nuit blanche
ELLIOTT SMITH - From a basement on the hill
    ANDREW BIRD - Weather systems
    LAMBCHOP - Aw c'mon/No you c'mon

Also, in the shops (like fnac), there is a small sort of 'comic book' titled 'Playlist' in which an illustrator named Berberian drew small caricatures of
many dozens famous bands, among which THE CURE (just a small square with a caricatural drawing of the band from '85 with The Head On the Door
tracklist).  The purpose of this book is simply that he loves music and owns tons of minidisc, for which he made his own illustration cover with a
drawing of the band.  He has now compiled his illustrations to make this book.  A Curespotting, but worth buying just for diehard CURE & illustration
    fans."

"Live105’s top 105.3 most played songs of 2004 (Assuming because there’s a lot of 2003 songs on it), The Cure’s “The End of the World” made #76.
Twas also a list of Top 10 albums done by the DJs, there were about 10 lists, and unfortunately(?) The Cure wasn’t mentioned once."

    (Thanks Nik)

"The end of the world was listed as number 92 on 92.3 Krok's top 92 of 2004 listing."

"Just wanted you guys to know that in the belgian top 2004 the cure was listed as following :

    nr 26  A forest

    Nr 404 Boys Dont cry

    nr 893 Close To me

    Nr 479 Friday Im Inlove

    Nr 733 Inbetween days

    nr 1840 Just like Heaven

Nr 1909 Lets go to bed

    Nr 519 Lullaby

    nr 1711 The Lovecats "

    (Thanks Bcure)

"According to El País de las Tentaciones, a Spanish suplement from El Pais on Fridays (this time on Thursday), The Cure's "The Cure" has been chosen as the best foreigner album (with 38% of votes) of the year by its readers. The finalists have been:

U-Hu Her (Pj Harvey) 19% of votes
A-ha Shake (Kings of Leon) 19%
    Musicology (Prince) 15%
    A grand don't... (The Streets) 9%

The Cure returned with their best. Though the band of Robert Smith has never gone definetely, However, after a pause of walking on deserts, either because their 80's Goth style is back, or because of their approaching to the new-metal, The Cure have been a Smash His.

(Thanks to Sharon at Charlotte Sometimes)

    "Just some curespotting from Spain.

"The spanish online music magazine 'Muzicalia' point The Cure as the best Live band this year. This is because of the Xacobeo Festival. You can read it (in Spanish) here: http://www.muzikalia.com/leerreportajes4.php?referencia=20"

    (Thanks Luis)

"Today, i walked into a local music store, and big was my surprise as they were playing a Cure song... So i thought, great... But that wasn't the end of it, cause the next one was also the Cure, and so was the next, and so on... They were just playing the whole Greatest Hits DVD in loop. How wonderful can life be sometimes? For those who care, the shop in question is the "Free Record Shop" here in Mechelen, Belgium. Never
thought they would have such a good taste someday :)

But they didn't have the re-edition of T.I.B... They said it had to be ordered on demand. Like... what? Ah well..."

    (Thanks Laurent)

"During the holidays I saw Inbetween Days appear on some Top 100 thing on MTV2 (I think it was Top 100 songs).

I don't remember where Inbetween Days came (60th or 64th or something) but that's not important at all. Anyway, I've seen bits of other songs
on here before and during the video a bar appears at the top with a little bit of information scrolling along the screen.  For Inbetween Days it had the really useful piece of info that the song features manically strummed guitars (I never knew!!) but also that it features "a chorus of recorders" (as in the instrument called the recorder).  Erm, I guess this relates to the keyboard riff, as I can sort of see what they are getting at, but there's no excuse for thinking that is anything other than a keyboard.

I thought that spotting might entertain/confuse some of your readers ;-) "

    (Thanks Dave Ace)
