"Planet Sound (UK Teletext - Channel4 Page161) ran a news piece about the Trilogy DVD yesterday and they state that it is scheduled for a May release. I know it's not too far off summer, but "summer" could have been anything from May to August, so hopefully they'll stick to May."

DANCING STAGE MEGAMIX CONFIRMED FOR PS2
It's time to dangle those babies over the balcony as the gaming king of pop returns to claim its next-gen throne
17:18 "La-la-laaa-laa-laa-la-la-laaa..." While the dulcet tones of the diminutive princess of pop, Kylie, continue to spread incalculable joy through the medium of Dancing Stage Party Edition, Konami has strengthened its stranglehold on the very dignity of gaming with the announcements of Dancing Stage MegaMix for PS2.
Following the brilliant last localised version of the series, featuring tracks from Kylie and S Club, Konami's finger has remained super-glued to the poptastic pulse of the Euro music scene, with tracks from the Mercury Music Prize-winning Ms. Dynamite, pouty popsters The Sugababes, last summer's dance anthem Elvis Vs. JXL, and Kylie's joyous "Love at First Sight" all scheduled for inclusion in MegaMix.
And for the slightly older musos out there, the inclusion of The Cure's "The Love Cats" is sure to provoke tears of boundless delight.
As for game modes, expect the standard Arcade, Calorie Counter, Tutorial and a multiplayer option where two players can use two mats each to bust moves straight from the heavens. "

"In last weeks Kerrang there was a review and interview with German pop-punk band The Beatsteaks about their new covers EP, "Die Wohnzimmer". Anyway one of the tracks on it is a cover of Just Like Heaven. No idea what it sounds like but the review suggested it was one of the best tracks on the EP. "

"Check out Mr. Bamonte at Aria Guitar's website here: http://www.ariaguitars.com/int/artists/pg3.html You will remember that they worked with Perry in designing a new 'six-string bass' guitar dubbed the "BB," or "Bamonte Bass." Too bad it's such a tiny picture."

"In the german issue of the rolling stone magazine, i found a line about Robert Smith. The stone put a band called "The Good Life" on their "new noises vol.57" cd, and they wrote about them, that the singer of the band sounds in his best moments like Robert Smith of The Cure. By the way, the music sounded interesting."

P2 of this week's Music Week magazine:
"THE CURE SIGN DEAL WITH ARTISTDIRECT WITH PLANS FOR NEW ALBUM"
ArtistDirect vice chairman Marc Geiger has announced the signing of The Cure to ArtistDirect Records. The band, whose two-decade career with Polydor was brought to a close at the end of 2001 with the release of Greatest Hits, will have a new studio album issued later this year. Meanwhile, ArtistDirect Records' sister Label iMusic last week issued it's first UK release, Johnny Marr + The Healers single Bangin' On.
Eagle Vision is proud to announce the signing of The Cure to it's ever growing roster. Set for a summer release, The Cure were filmed in Berlin last year in front of a sold out audience for what was named the Dark Trilogy show where the band played the albums Pornography, Disintegration and Bloodflowers in there entirety. Also included on the DVD is the encore where the band returned to play some of the greatest hits as well as back stage footage from the event making this a monster must have release.
Also, here's the link to the US division.
Update - Here's what Gary Numan thinks of Eagle:
Here are Gary Numan's views on EAGLE (Taken from his official website. www.numan.co.uk)
Numan quotes:
"People lie. Even my 20 plus years in the business doesn't make me immune from a good 'what we're going to do for you' piece of record company bullshit. I sat and listened to the most impressive, and long winded, talk from the Spitfire (Eagle) head man about what they were going to do for the Pure album. I find out that it's not happening, AT ALL, when I get there to start the North American tour. Without being able to read every magazine, go into every record store, listen to every radio station and watch every TV programme to find out what is actually being done to promote the album/tour, you tend to rely on what so-called facts are being given to you by the people supposedly 'working their asses off' trying to sell the album. By the time you find out enough to realise that NOTHING is being done it's already too late. "
Let's hope The Cure have better luck with the video division. I mean there's no way they could do less promotion then Elektra did, could they?
(Thanks Martin and ?)

"I just heard that Tori Amos covered Lovesong in concert on Monday, January 20 in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. I know that Tori has covered it before but I think it has been a while. I'm sure MP3s are probably circling on Tori fan sites."
And of course you can find a version of Tori's cover in the Audio/Video page.
Update - "In response to the posting from Matt, Tori Amos has played Lovesong 2 other times on the current Scarlet's Walk tour. I personally 'experienced' the cover in Tempe, AZ (USA) back in December, 2002 and it was absolutely beautiful. Before that, she played it in Detroit, MI in November, and an MP3 of this can be found at http://hereinmyhead.com/sounds/tori2002-11-24-Lovesong.mp3

"Stumbled upon a few more Cure-spottings in the last couple of days.
In the Nirvana biography 'Come As You Are', there is a passage on page 45 that refers to The Cure.
"The underground scene was so small in Aberdeen that even Cure fans with their trendy quiffs and goth clothes would hang around the practice space. Chris and Shelli called them the Haircut 100 Club."
The second Cure-spotting comes from the February 2003 issue of Spin. In an article about a Victoria BC band called HOT HOT HEAT. It says "we have billions of influences, The Beatles, Elvis Costello, Michael Jackson, Nirvana, but not The Cure, to whom we are often compared. I think we all own like one Cure album. We don't get it."
(Thanks Nando)
"while watching VH-1 Pop up videos (doing a special on Anime), a Japanese animation called "Kareshi Kanojyo No Jijyou" was been shown and in the background they are playing the Cure song, "Friday I'm in love". "
(Thanks E. N. Guy)
" 'lets go to bed' was featured on a tv show called 'girls behaving badly' last night, it was played whilst a prostitute was getting ready for ' work'!"
(Thanks Ange)
"I think even the more defensive Cure fans should derive the faintest semblance of a chuckle from this: http://www.achewood.com/06262002.html"

"Just wanted to let you know that Medazzaland Discs http://www.medazzaland.net/pages/video.html is offering the same Brazilian picture show DVD for less than other web sites."

"Dear All, if AAE were asked to contribute a song to a Cure tribute album, what would you like it to be? Thanks, Julianne. "
Wow, this could be fantastic. Being a huge fan of All About Eve and especially Julianne Regan, this is almost as exciting as the upcoming Trilogy dvd. Hope it all works out. I'll post more as soon as I can.
"I live in Odessa, Ukraine. This is the first time I participate in Curespotting. We've got a pretty good music channel "Enter" here in Ukraine. And today we were shown a live gig in Glasgow 1984 from Rock Masters series. It was absolutely great since I've never seen it. I even pretended to be ill at my work in order for my boss could free me and I could see the concert!"
(Thanks Dennis)
"Just saw a list of 15 most "genius" singles ever made (printed in Fluid magazine). The band was included with the single "Killing an Arab"/"10.15 Saturday Night" among with the tracks like "Birthday" by Sugarcubes, "Hong Kong Garden" by Siouxie & the Banshees or Hendrix's "Hey Joe" just to mention a few."
(Thanks Pawe³ Tommek)
"In the recent issue of Record Collector there is a special about 'the 25 uk punk lps you must hear before you die' and Three Imaginary Boys is listed as #21 (#1 are The Ramones)."

"when I was in Japan, I was watching a Japan AV (called twinkle memories also know as barefoot in America with a very famous actress name Haruki Mizuno in it) and in the middle of the movie a Japanese man walked out with a Cure t-shirt, (the same cure t-shirt that I have). The Japanese sure have good taste."

"In the Mirror supplement "M" from this week you can find an article about 4 woman, how they used to be as teenagers and how they have changed since then. One of them starts with: "I went to a Catholic boarding school and had been getting into more and more trouble, then I saw Robert Smith on Top Of The Pops and thought, 'He looks cool, I want to be part of his tribe." - well, doesn't that sound familiar?"

Update - Ok, time is up. The questions have been sent, and now we have to wait until April to see which ones they use. Thanks to everyone who participated and to The Cure for giving all of us this opportunity!
In December's issue of a magazine called Fluid (from Poland) I found a list of 10 most desirable bootlegs/mixes made last year. The band was placed at position No5 (Mix of Love Cats and last single of Mrs.Missy Eliot). Position 1 was occupated by mix of Kylie Minogue's track (can't get you out of my head) mixed with one of New Order's tracks. As article says mixes are done by underground japanese (awarded by Muzik magazine) DJ.
(Thanks Pawe)

Update - Relax! It isn't the announcement of a secret show, or a chance to get tickets to a tv/radio taping or anything like that. Just check this page any time between the 16th and 18th.
Just been told by a local DJ in london (robb masters) that the 'Lullaby Rework/Sample' track is being released on Feb 10, he said "I assume it's the b-side to the Just Jack "Snowflakes" single. I'll let you know if I hear any different. Xfm are playing it quite a lot now - particulary on Music Response (Fri 7-9)."
(Thanks Ange)
(Thanks Fozzie)
A couple of mentions in UK magazines:
The current issue of the BBC Good Food magazine has an interview with celebrity chef Jamie Oliver and when asked what music he listens to he mentions The Cure (along with Supergrass, Oasis and Jamiroquai) .
Also, Whilst flicking through a magazine called Classic Rock in a newsagent I saw an article on the Goth scene. The Cure got a couple of mentions but the article was littered with faults as it said that The Cure's cover of Purple Haze appeared on The Crow soundtrack album. I think there were a few more 'false facts' with the article but I didn't buy the magazine.

The Picture Show DVD is now being sold at eil.com. For those unfamiliar with eil.com, they are one of the best sites on the internet for finding rare collectibles of your favorite music group, Cure or otherwise.

Just wanted to alert everybody here in the States about an upcoming Cure event in metro New York. Goth-industrial club QXT in Newark, NJ is hosting "A Night Like This: the Tri-state area's most famous tribute to The Cure" on Friday, January 24th. As an added bonus, Rochester NY's own Disintegration will be making the 300+ mile trek down to entertain all us Cureheads. As you know, vitually all the Cure-related events have been happening on the other side of the pond, so for folks jonesin' for the Cure, here's an opportunity to hear a terrific American-based tribute band and meet some of your fellow Curefans to boot. Admission is just $8 w/ printout-flyer, $10 w/o. QXT's website is www.qxts-nj.com.
(Thanks Mark)
(Thanks Pissis)
This night I went to the fabulous nightclub "Sticky Fingers" in Gothenburg, Sweden. Apart from playing "Friday, I´m in love", they also played a soft, slow painobased cover of "Boys don´t cry" performed by a local band namned "Her majesty" (I think). It was absolutely marvelous and one of the last songs played before closing time. I was told it would be out on the bands first single, to be released in late january.
(Thanks Henrik)
In the February, 2003 Spin, Serj Tankian - singer from System of A Down - talks about groups & albums that influenced him. Amongst others: the Cure's Pornography. He says, "After I was into metal and punk, I got into goth stuff. I really liked the Birthday Party, and then I got into Joy Division and Killing Joke. I also loved this one Sisters of Mercy song ["Marian (Version)"]: [sings] "I hear you calling, Marian." I also became a huge Cure fan. Pornography is great, but it can be difficult listening. It definitely has its time and place."
(Thanks Rust)
On Triple J (Australian radio station) they were having a special "furry weekend" playing all furry-related songs. They played "Lovecats" then said "There's nothing furrier and cuddlier than Robert Smith in Lovecats". how true!!!!
(Thanks Julie)
In 'Live', a free Swiss magazine about cinema, music and video, there is a very small pic of Robert ('84 I believe) with a caption that reads: "Against all odds, The Cure are on their way back to the studios with Ross Robinson (Korn, Slipknot) for the next LP of the band.".
Also, during Christmas I was in France with some friends and one of their daughter was listening to a compilation cd of variety/dance stuff titled Hits 2002 or something, with Britney Spear, Shakira, Lorie (frenchies may have heard of her), that sort of stuff, and there was a song from a band called Jalane which music really did sound like 'Lullaby', although there was no infos in the credits. I had written all the deatils down but have lost the paper. I'll try to get it right asap.
Update - just an info about Jalane, a french R&B artiste, and his song very similar to the Cure : it souds like that because there is a sample of "lullaby". This song is called "Où va le monde ?" and it has been released in the last summer in France.
(Thanks Fabien G and Agravede)
I'm really late with this, but I've got a Curespotting from a couple of weeks ago on NPR (National Public Radio). During the introduction to the "numbers" section of their Marketplace program, a strange musak version of The Cure's "Wrong Number" was used as a lead in to a rather grim week in the stock market! I thought it was a pretty clever use, actually.
Also, I wanted to remind everyone that while the Rock Masters DVD featuring the Cure is unfortunately in limbo, I have seen actual copies of the Rock Masters Sampler DVD for sale, and it does have a version of "10:15 Saturday Night" on it.
(Thanks Jason)
Tonight - 10January - I saw Sarabanda (an Italian music quiz show) on Italia1: the theme that people must guess was Close to me! And the compère, Enrico Papi, has specified: "It's a song of the Cure".
(Thanks Francesca)
I was watching a VH1 Special titled, "I love the 80's" today and Hot Hot Hot was played as backround music during a segment about the trend of crimping hair in 1987.

"I'm a Mac user-fanatic. Yesterday I was watching the Leader (Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple Computer) speak at MacWorld San Francisco. In demonstrating iDVD (Apple's simple DVD creating application for consumers), he illustrated its soundtrack capabilities by inserting the live version of Friday I'm In Love (from the Greatest Hits Bonus CD) into a home movie. He explained that he had found a really great example of how different pieces of music, applied to home movies, can really make home movies stand out. I was soooo freaked out that Steve Jobs listened to the Cure!"

"Stuart of Mogwai answered a question on their site about how it felt to support The Cure at the Hyde Park show.
Q: Hello. I saw that you've put up The Cure as one of your comrades (meaning U like their music). I am a big fan of both Mogwai & The Cure, and I was wandering if it means anything to U guys at all that Robert Smith is so fond/inspired by U. He kept on mentioning you when they recorded BLOODFLOWERS (which by the way is an execellent album). Or does this kind of colleague respect not bother you ???? Hope to see you live (again) in Denmark this spring/summer!
A: Not bother us?? I'm going to be dining out for years with my Robert Smith and me tales for years and years to come. Supporting The Cure was something i'd always wanted to do. Happy Stuart. Happy happy happy Stuart.

"I was watching Much Music (canadaian music channel) late last night and stumbled across this. During a show called 'egos & icons' featuring No Doubt. adrian (the drummer) was going on about "how their music is influenced by new wave 80's music, mostly from bands like Blondie, The Cars and The Cure. it then very quickly showed a clip from 'The Lovecats'. Then Gwen was talking about how her lyrics were inspired by The Cure: "I wanted my lyrics to be more like The Cure's. Meaningful words that portrays a message"."
(Thanks Nando)
"taken from Q issue 199 "There's Something In The Air: Raincoat Rock*
*The Killing Moon by Coldplay favourites Echo And The Bunnymen was used to memorable effect in Donnie Darko. Time to revisit the early 80s masters of brooding guitarscapes and alienated lyrics...
The Cure - Seventeen Seconds Before they discovered the makeup box and mobilised millions of goths in Germany and Italy, Robert Smith's crew were really depressing. Seventeen Seconds maintains a mood of gloom and despondency. But, along with the rudimentary basslines, mechanical rhythms and use of synthesisers, there is enough residual pop nous to make it curiosly invigorating. From "A Forest" to the sinister title track, nameless dread and a kind of autistic panic are evoked. It's fair to say that Radiohead would later skirt similar territory"
(Thanks curemadgirlx)
"As there is not so much news at this period... just a little mail to let you know that I found some pretty rare (and very beautiful) pics from The Cure on a site called New Wave Photos. It's from the private collection of a belgian photographer called Phillipe Carly. They all are from the 79-81 era and were shooted during concerts and Tv shows in Belgium. On the same site you can also find an impressive pictures collection of great punk and new wave bands. http://www.newwavephotos.com/Cure.htm "

"There is a new movie called "Charlotte Sometimes" currently showing on the Sundance Channel. Whether this has anything to do with the Cure song - or the book that the song is based on - is anyone's guess. However, here is the review of the movie from the January 3rd, 2003 Entertainment Weekly magazine: Oh, pretension, begone from independent films! A promising but ridiculously subdued Asian-American love story written and directed by Eric Byler goes heavy on looooong scenes and repetitive dialogue. Anyway, a lonely mechanic has the hots for his unavailable, sexy tenant (Eugenia Yuan). A mysterious stranger (noteworthy Jacqueline Kim) complicates things, but the bigger mystery is why we should care. C - Caroline Kepnes"
(Thanks Rust)
"I read this review at http://www.aint-it-cool-news.com/display.cgi?id=14118 (bottom of the page!) for an Indy film called "Charlotte Sometimes"... My first thought was someone was doing a movie based on Penelope's book "Charlotte Sometimes" but after reading the first paragraph it quickly became obvious that the movie had nothing to do with the book. The reviewer did make notice of a book in one scene that appeared on the characters book shelf, that book was called "The Stranger". Now you have a movie called "Charlotte Sometimes" with a reference to a book "Killing an Arab" was loosely based on. You can draw your own conclusions... ; ) "

"in the latest copy of Q magazine, they were compiling "the 100 greatest albums ever". unfortunatley, The Cure weren't one of these albums, but they did get a mention...
"The Smashing Pumpkins ~ Mellon Collie & The Infinate Sadness" The Smashing Pumpkins next album, Adore, sounded more like The Cure, suggesting they could only go backwards...
and, the staff of the magazine were asked their favourite album of all time and: Maria Jefferis "The Cure ~ Disintegration". "
