Review from Dallas Morning News

Review By Rich

This adventure starts on Thurday night when my friend and I camped out for  almost 22 hours at Bill's Records
here in Dallas to get tickets for the show. We questioned several times would this effort be worth it ?  After a long
weekend, Monday night finally rolls around.  Outside the Deep Ellum Live , there are hundreds of people lined up.
When the doors finally opened, I found a place very close to the stage.  It didn't take long for the place to be
packed full.  When the band came out, everyone went crazy.  The crowd never let up.  As the show went on I started
watching some of the people in the crowd, and I soon realized that almost everyone there was a huge Cure fan.  It
seemed like everyone was hang on to every word and every sound of  each song.  I think the band picked up on this
, because they seemed to get more intense too.  The highlight of the evening for me was when they played Just Like
Heaven.  I was not expecting this at all, they had not played it on  any of the previous promo shows.  Everyone was
singing along and they were so loud that I couldn't even hear Robert over them.  I looked up at the stage and each
of the band members was smiling as they performed the song, it was great.  When the song was over, Robert said "
I guess we lied about the pop songs".  I really think that they decided to play it to reward the crowd for being so into
the show.  This show, will all these dedicated Cure fans crammed in, had an incredible atmosphere.  The band
played each song with unbelievable emotion.  It was an amazing evening.  Today, my friend asked me if what we had
gone through to get tickets for the show was worth it ?  I just laughed and said that I was ready to do it all over
again ....

(I hope to write my own review soon, but I just wanted to echo Rich's thoughts about the crowd, they were fantastic! Red hot all night, despite the heat. They were singing along to everything! Amazing show.)

The Cure put on an awesome show!  It was up close, personal, and as intimate with the band as I as well as most of
us will ever be again. They played wonderfully, however i felt that at times the instruments overwhelmed the vox
and the lead guitar in certain songs....(maybe i was in the wrong position to the speakers?) and there also seemed to
be a lot of feedback coming from perry's guitar.  But who cares, only a minor setback in a totally awesome
performance by such an influential band in my life.  In fact, i found myself "tearing up" during Last Day of Summer,
as well as From the Edge of.....  I loved how the band would really just play their hearts out @ times...just
"jamming" as i call it, in the groove.  It was really a joy to watch and experience.  Roger seemed to "toy" w/ the
crowd and seemed very interactive.  Robert of course did his "dances", and smiled and seemed to be enjoying
himself. Simon was just intense, playing with deep thought, and intensity.  Perry was very subtle, nothing
special...not even really smiling...looked very tired.  Jason was awesome on the cans.  Now, though i enjoyed the
performance...I must say the crowd at the show had quite a few "bad eggs" (in fact probably one of the most
inconsiderate crowds i've been amongst)...lots of young "punks and drunks" acting like idiots, almost seeming to
start a mosh pit...give me a break!!  And i noticed all of these morons, never sang, mouthed, or even seemed to
know any of the lyrics....so, that was the only downfall...if only the true cure fans had been there...it would have been
complete....anyhow, the show was awesome, and i'll definitely see them again in may!....Thanx for the show guys!

I'll try not to repeat what's been said in the other reviews.  Bottom line, the band played well Monday night.
Highlights were Out of this World, Bloodflowers, Prayers for Rain, and A Strange Day.  If Only Tonight We Could
Sleep was also wonderful, but to several of us it seemed to have been cut short.  It's taken me awhile to warm up to
Watching Me Fall, but it sounds so much better live.

The crowd was great, too.  I expected people to be pushing toward the stage, but it was not so.  Everyone was very
polite and well behaved, around me at least.  One guy at the very front of the stage did appear to get thrown out,
but I have no idea why.

The only things which marred an otherwise perfect evening were the sound and the venue.  The sound was good,
but could have been better.  At various times during the set, either Perry's or Robert's guitars were hardly audible.

As for the venue:  before the show started, the air conditioning was running well, keeping the club cool and well
ventilated.  But inexplicably, 10 minutes before the show the AC seemed to be shut down completely.  By the time
the show started many people were sweating.  By the second song, it was obvious that Robert and Simon were
dripping also.  Halfway through the show, it seemed like the AC was finally turned on again, but it was too late for
the girl a few feet in front of me who passed out and laid on the floor throughout Bloodflowers.  That really sucked.

I finally got to see a Cure show up close, about three people deep in the center, and I'm really glad it was for this
show.  This was definately the best Cure show I've ever seen.  The band was very focused, were clearly enjoying
themselves, and technically wonderful.  You could tell Robert was really feeding off of the crowd's energy at points,
especially during the louder songs like A Forest.  Robert didn't forget any lyrics except for the first verse of
Disintegration, which he made up for by starting over within the song and then giving a blazing vocal performance
for the rest of the song.

The new material sounded very strong, it was neat watching them rip through all 11+ minutes of Watching Me Fall
with great intensity. Highlights for me were 100 Years and Disintegration...it was one of those nights where Robert
was really pouring his soul into those songs vocally. And of course the older stuff like The Figurehead and If Only...
sounded fantastic as well.  Sorry all you Jason-haters, but he's really found his place in the band now.  No more
slow, plodding versions of From the Edge...or Disintegration anymore, he has finally got the tempo for the
songs up to where they sound fabulous again.  Oh yes, and Perry improves on guitar everytime I see him!  Simon
was solid as always, and even Roger showed some real emotion up there.

We also were lucky to stay for the aftershow party, and met everyone except for Robert who never came out.  And
to that girl at the aftershow who would NOT F*CKING LEAVE THE BAND ALONE, everyone there hated you.
You know who you are.  Very much looking forward to the Dream Tour...

"See you in May."

Just got home from the Cure show in Deep Ellum Live -- damn, what an evening!  Samantha (my gal) and I had
received only the most shadiest deals from the local ticket brokers ("give us the money and we'll send you to this
guy at this pub behind where the concert is and he'll give you the tickets").  We ended up buying from a scalper for
a reasonable price and the evening was ours; we were victorious! We couldn't have been more than twenty feet
from the stage; I could even see the drops of sweat dripping from Robert's frocks.  They opened with the first two
songs off of Bloodflowers; "out of this world" and "watching me fall" -- and then proceeded to rock out with quite
an impressive number of their older and more tried-and-true tracks, such as "100 years", "disintegration", "a
forest", "a strange day", and others of the like.  The band was frisky; playful, even, at certain moments, enjoying
the adulation of the packed house.   Every song sounded great, even with the limited acoustic capabilities of Deep
Ellum Live. Thumbs up from over here in Dallas -- the show is going to be stellar!

My brief and simple review. They played very well but it was just good; that's it. It wasn't amazing like it usually is
(at least for me). They didn't play very much off of eachother, they didn't mess around at all, everything just
seemed more like they were getting it done and trying to get it done so that it sounded professional. That's it. Well
I am off to Atlanta today and then NY from there. Hopefully it won't be that way at  all the shows. I did find out
where they were staying though and also met Perry and Roger. :)
