  • Curespotting:
  • "Channel 4 used the intro from watching me fall to fade in and out of breaks..On Sex in The City last night.."

    (Thanks Gary)

"On AOL news this morning, I read a note about my original neck of the woods, South Padre Island, TX preparing for Spring Break. It mentioned that you can always hear "Just Like Heaven" in all the local bars. "

    (Thanks PIANOFLR)

"From the April, 2001 Metal Edge magazine:

When asked "Which song best describes your love life?" , Roman Marisak, from the group Professional Murder Music, responded, "Maybe Someday' by the Cure."

    (Thanks rust)

"Well, since alternative radio stations (such as KROQ here in California) don't play The Cure much these days i guess i have to rely on supermarket stores such as Ralph's where i just heard A LETTER TO ELISE loud and clear for all shoppers...made my morning...O BABY by Siouxsie and the Banshees seems to be another favorite here."

    (Thanks Nicole)

"Sunday nite on mtv2(i agree much better than mtv) they showed the cure unplugged. It was really great to see again. "

    (Thanks Marita and Anna)

"This morning (Feb. 19) on the news/talk show "Fox and Friends" on the Fox News Network they played "Maybe Someday" when they returned from a commercial break."

"last monday a very short bit of 'plain song' was played during an Italian TV prog about soccer (football) called 'SFIDE'. great song for top tv prog!!!"

    (Thanks Marcello)

"The other day, (Feb. 8th) I was in a book store, killing some time, before I could take my friend her birthday present. I was looking through the music section, and found a book that VH1 has put out. It's just a whole bunch of lists of top ten bands. They had the best 80's band, the best lead singer of a band, etc. etc. etc Anyway, one of the catagories was best New wave band or artist, and The Cure was number six. They should have been before a few bands, since they were the ones who started the whole new wave thing. "

    (Thanks Treeweel)

"I work in the technical support department for a digital GSM wireless carrier (VoiceStream), and while on hold with one of our call centers in Wichita, KS, I heard "Catch." Very odd, but made my night!"

    (Thanks Lisamarie)

    (Thanks Jennifer)

  • Billboard has put up a preview of the Grammy's Alternative Album category.

  • And on a related note:
  • "Wall of Sound.com's Grammy Viewer Poll has the Cure at only 4%!!!!! If Radiohead's "Kid A" wins this AND album of the year, I'll never buy another goddamn CD again! Except for Cure, Bowie, Frank Black, and Morrissey - if he ever gets another contract.....

Here's the direct link: we have no say, of course, this is just to reflect the will of the people - obviously, the poll reflects those people who have no will of their own and are voting like the shaved sheep they all are! Lets go over and display some Will to Power: http://wallofsound.go.com/features/grammys01/voting.html"

    (Thanks Peter)

  • News on a promo single for Yesterday's Gone:
  • "There is a new promo only cd single of the Reeves Gabrel/Robert Smith collaboration, "Yesterday's Gone." It includes: "John X Remix" (3:52), radio edit (3:32) and the album version (5:18.) The cd single (like the album "Ulysses") is released on emagine."

    (Thanks Rust)

  • Cure party in Switzerland:
  • "Tribute to THE CURE, bands will play The Cure songs + Afterparty

    17 March 2001 Usine,Geneva Switzerland at 22.00"

    (Thanks Gilles)

  • Cure covers:
  • "The opening act for marilyn manson when they played in portland and seattle last month was a band called professional murder music, although they weren't very good at all, they did do a decent cover of 'a night like this'. They didn't say that it was the cure, they just said, "Some of you might know this song." (I personally didn't see much of a reaction from the crowd.)

The funny part is that the bands guitarist asked to borrow a lighter from my friend before the show, which she had to get out of her purse, which has cure patches all over it... "

    (Thanks anonymous)

  • Curespotting:
  • "There's a short note about Robert in the current issue of the Swiss television mag "Tele" (nr. 06/01). It says:

    Robert Smith

    Confusing

Last year the english gloomy-poppers THE CURE have recorded their farewell album. Once again. For each of the four albums before were "our very last album", too. However: singer Robert Smith is reported to be in the studio again. Without band. Is there a solo-CD threatening us?"

    (Thanks Greg)

"This maybe is (one of) the reason why the Cure got less attention from NME in the last few years. From NME JAN, 27th, interview to Steve Sutherland (NME brand director - he also co-wrote the Ten Imaginary Years bio):

q." have you ever lied about a band or yourself to look cool, or to stay friendly with them?"

    a. "I can't say that I have. I was playing snooker one night in an Irish castle with Robert Smith of The Cure, who I used to be big mates with, and he said that if I wrote something negative about his stuff, it wouldn't affect our friendship because he appreciated a critic needs to be honest etc. Then, when I said the Cure album before last was crap, I never heard from him again. Funny that."

(It goes without saying of course, but that's only Sutherland's side of the story. - Craig)

    (Thanks Marcello)

"The Cure is mentioned in this week's Entertainment Weekly (with Hannibal on the cover). There is a brief article on the recent popularity of retro-80's style buttons with rock and roll groups on them. There's a photo that shows a Cure button and an Echo and the Bunnymen button. The Cure one just says "The Cure" in a white font on black. It mentions that buttons from 80's supergroups, including The Cure, have been hot items lately. "

    (Thanks Charlie)

    "Monday February 05, 2001 07:12 a.m.

At The Drive In was on MTV2 (Much better than MTV) and they pick vidoes that they enojyed or influenced them. At 07:12 The Cure's Close To Me (Closer Mix) was chosen by the group. "

    (Thanks Kristian)

"This morning (Feb. 8th) on the Today show, they showed an interview that Katie Couric did with Michelle Kwan, the figure skater. When they showed some scenes of Michelle skating, parts of Strange Attraction and Mint Car were played in the background. Maybe Katie is a Cure fan."

    (Thanks Darren)

  • Just in case you were wondering about that Boring, Boring Arsenal message that Robert posted on the official website recently, here's the explanation:
  • "Just incase you didn't know what "Boring boring Arsenal" means on the The Cure's News page - Robert supporrts QPR who were put out of the FA cup in England (Soccer) by Arsenal. 6 - nil I think. Arsenal are Simon's team BTW.

Anyway, "Boring boring Arsenal" was a chant the opposing fans were given to sing as Arsenal's style of soccer under manager George Graham wasn't exactly based on Brazilian school of thought. Very defensive, scoring (?) on the break, etc."

And that new message that went up yesterday is more of the same, just a different team.

    (Thanks Ronan)
