"German tv channel West 3, who broadcast The Cure's performance
at this years Bizarre festival, aired a lot of concerts in 1998. On the
29th of November, there was a highlight show, where everyone could vote
for one special song he/she wanted to see again. West 3 already started
to give their viewers the chance to vote about 2 months ago. One could
vote via internet, fax or telephone. Now, they have put all the tracks
that got most votes on their homepage. There was only enough space for
59 songs. And it seems as if The Cure still have a lot of fans !!! Only
Page and Plant and our favourites The Cure were included with 3 songs !!
The songs were "Pictures of you", "Just like heaven"
and "Killing an arab". And remember: West 3 showed a lot of bands
this year, including R.E.M., Garbage, Portishead, Beastie Boys and Pulp."

"The Cure are perhaps the sole example of what an alternative group can sound like 20 years into their career. If you haven't liked their music before, you won't like it now, but Cure fans worldwide (and there are many, including the creators of South Park) will rejoice and dye their hair black anew.
"According to singer-songwriter Smith, this album is like an index to all of the Cure's previous releases. 'It's almost like I'm winding up and going over the subjects that have interested me over the years, trying to distill what I've always wanted to say and how I feel about things at this point in my life,' he explains. 'It sounds very heavy, with lots of guitars. It's quite loud and sort of dark ...
"'It sounds like old-fashioned Cure; it falls in the canon alongside Pornography and Disintegration. The kind of obsessive listener who was into those albums will like it.'
"Song that Smith expects to make the album include 'Fall' ('which will probably be the biggest, rowdiest song we've ever done'), 'Side by Side' (a 'bleak' tune, according to Smith) and 'Just Say Yes,' a fairly upbeat number with a dark twist. But don't expect any obvious radio singles. 'There aren't any real Cure pop songs on this record,' says Smith. 'Lyrically the songs are about despair, loss, lack of faith -- those subjects. So, musically that's reflected by music that's in a minor key. We have used guitar sounds and feedback that have been used by other bands before, but it's not something we've used."
"Twenty years down the road, the Cure are still delivering what fans have come to expect from them. There's something comforting about that fact. Says Smith, 'It doesn't feel like I've been doing the same thing [for 20 years]. In the first decade I was much more intent on getting somewhere. The second 10 years I've been doing it more for my own satisfaction. I had something to prove in the first 10 years, and the second 10 years have been much more enjoyable for me.'
"He's also learned it is possible to write a 'bleak' record without having to immerse himself in suicidal thoughts. So what music inspires him now?
"'I'm listening to folk music, fiddle playing and that kind
of thing -- quite jolly,' Smith says with a laugh. 'The album is the strange
sort of reaction I've had to it.'"
