Note: The band played 'Friday' instead of 'Cut
Here' because CD:UK asked them to play it or to not play at all.
The band would have preferred to play 'Cut',
but please remember that the band doesn't always get what they
want. Especially when it comes to UK tv.
: )
"The Cure have just appeared on CD:UK (In the UK!).
They "performed" Friday I'm In Love, although
it was just Robert singing live, the rest of the band mimed to
a backing track, as is the norm on this show
it would seem.
Robert made no effort to disguise the fact
he was miming his accoustic guitar part, as he kept taking his hands
away from the guitar to make gestures.
He even managed to forget the words during the middle-8 and just
mumbled his way through a line !
It seems that suits are definitely the current
look again for The Cure, and considering the kind of show they
were on (i.e. an awful one) they looked like
they were having quite a bit of fun.
I do wonder about one thing though.....
CD:UK is supposed to showcase the new entries
in the singles chart for that week. I wonder if they were given
the option of just playing another song (in
this case Friday...) so they could promote The Greatest Hits, given
that Cut Here didn't manage to scrape into
the Top 40 in the UK."
(Thanks David)
"The cure played Friday live, wearing smart
black suits, and they sounded excellent, Robert's singing was
incredibly good, wish they had played more."
(Thanks Jean P.)
"Just wanted to say it was great to see The
Cure back on British TV, but I can't help feeling that their
appearence on CD-UK was a wasted chance to
play the new single as they just played Friday I'm In Love to
promote the new greatest hits album. The presenters
didn't even mention the new single. What is up with the
british promoters hello wake up. "
(Thanks Martin)
