Setlist for Portugal
"After a long, long twelve hour wait at a first
row spot (right in front of where Robert would be), and after
supporting all those new rock tedious, boring
and non-melodic bands, The Cure finally came onstage.
It was my first Cure show, so I may sound
a bit "biased", but nonetheless they all looked in GREAT shape.
Robert was as beautiful as ever, smiling at
me and others throughout the show, he really seemed to enjoy our
portuguese crowd. I can't complain about the
fact that the setlist was basically the same as that of Benicassim,
since all songs were very, very powerful and
targeted hardcore fans like me. Out of this world and watching me
fall were awesome, but the masterpieces of
Plainsong and The Kiss surpassed everything, first with Robert's
classic walkabout which got us all really
emotional, and then with an epic guitar solo. All songs were very well
sung by Robert, his voice was as good as ever,
particularly in songs like Want, Open, The Kiss, FTEOTDGS,
Bloodflowers and JLH. Robert looked at me
and sort of complained, rolling his eyes "right up to heaven",
when some people at the back sent forward
a cloth saying "LULLABY" for us to put against the railing, but he
kindly looked at me again at the end of the
show and apologised with his cheeky smile for not having played it.
It was the best day of my life, and this eye
contact he made with me several times "made me want to cry". I
loved the main set, and loved the encores
again but in a different way. I am conscious that playing singles hasn't
been The Cure's objective this year, but since
it was my first time at a Cure show I was delighted to hear
Lovesong, Inbetween Days, JLH and Boys don't
Cry. Play for Today was followed with the traditional crowd
singing, and A Forest initiated the end of
concert delirium. I was also overjoyed to see Robert do a little leg
movement when they played the singles, he
was all smiley and once again smiled at me when I started to jump to
the sound of Inbetween Days. I was particularly
touched by Plainsong, The Kiss, Lovesong and Bloodflowers,
which got me really emotional. All in all,
it was a dream come true and a very powerful experience, shared with
the person I somehow, and without ever knowing
him personally, identify myself with and adore. I guess Cure
fans are, like Robert said, quite thoughtful
and they get to know Robert pretty well. I can't wait to see them next
year as Robert promised! Thank you Robert
and The Cure for providing us portuguese fans with an incredible
night, we will always love you."
"I'm still tired cause i've just arrived back
home from sudoeste, more than 1000 km by car, so i'll just do a short
comment to the concert After seeing The Cure
at Hyde Park , Well... i Think it was a good cure concert...once
again i was expecting more... it was all too
predictable..they could've changed the setlists at least from benicassim
to sudoeste...but I loved it anyway.
Robert didn't look like he was in a good mood
, he kept reaching for his head and ears, as though his head was
aching...He didn't talk to the audience except
"thank You" "Obrigado" very unoften .had some sound problems,
like they had in hyde park...but nothings
serious...
Robert busted a string while he was playing
in between days , but he kept playing it anyway and also boys don't
cry.
( I can't go on , i'm too tired)
A friend told me that saturday there were more
than 40000 ppl at sudoeste...And for the cure there were many
more..."
"Well, the setlist I guess was exactly the
same as Benicassin. Was 3 imaginary boys and Trust played in
Benicassim?
Maybe what I write may be nonsense, since
I had one hour only of sleep. My two friends and I left Lisboa at 8 pm.
I was very excited about another cure concert.
The one before had been the Dream Tour, in Berlin. So I was very
worried of us getting there late. And I strongly
believe the way we choose to get there was the crappiest and the
longest. Anyway, finally we got there by 11
pm. I have never seen so many cars parked at the same place. An
ocean of cars, and most of them completely
covered with dust. Just after we got in it started with Muse. Very nice
band. Very nice concert. But I was not there
for them.
The Cure got on stage at 1:20 am with Out
of this world. They were perfect. The sound was amazing. But I have
some personal things to say...The setlist
could have changed from Benicassim, since a lot of people went to both
concerts. The Kiss was a masterpiece. I coudn´t
believe the power of this song. This was not my best cure
concert, maybe because the setlist was not
so different from the last concert I had been, which was the best one.
Most of people were there for the Cure, and
a lot was still arriving before the concert. Lovesong made my night.
I really don´t understand why I never
get songs like Cold or The Drowning man. One Hundred Years was very
powerful, very techno. The crowd was waiting
for a 3rd encore. The crowd really enjoyed the Hits. And many
enjoyed the old ones. Robert Smith sounded
very peaceful. The rest of the band was splendid. All in all, was
worth the adventure to see my favourite band.
Again! A huge thanks to the Cure!"
