  • HMV has confirmed that the 'The Cure - Greatest Hits' (official title) will be released on Nov. 12th in the U.K. (and I would guess the rest of Europe as well). The U.S. release should follow on Nov. 13th.
  • (Thanks Martin)

  • Lots of other info came in today and I will post as soon (and if) I can. You are not going to be disappointed!

  • Aug. 30th

  • Sorry for the lack of updates. Lots of good things are happening though, and I would guess that we will start seeing announcements over the next few weeks.

  • Here's a report on last Saturday's Cure special that was broadcast on P3:
  • "The Danish National Radio (P3) broadcasted a 3-hour Cure special today. Nothing much to say though........just the usual singles and semi-correct history. They did paint a quite bad picture of Robert, constantly talking about how rude he has been to the former members. More positive was the Roskilde concert which was the "center" of the program. The sound was quite fair and did communicate what a good show it was. Sadly the speaker/DJ was going on with stories and such in intros of several songs. Also Shake Dog Shake was completly missing and we were only given 30 sec. of The Kiss - a shame.

Also there was a "interview" from backstage Roskilde. Never have I heard such a pointless and stupid interview! It was conducted by two young girls and ALL they asked about was haircut, haircut, haircut, lipstick, lipstick, lipstick !!! The whole farce was started by them asking Robert to sing.......When he naturally refused this mindless suggestion the girls babbled on about their own hair and eventually started screaming/singing themselves !! It was so embarrassing just to listen to....Robert seemed so uncomfortable. These two imbecils couldn`t hardly utter a word in english, but they certainly loved to hear themselves talk......Oh, Dear.

Even though nothing out of the ordinary was said or played, it was a nice idea to spend 3 hours on our beloved band.......cheers to P3 The weird thing is that I (and a good friend of mine also) won the "story"competition that the radio had run on their homepage! Winning is quite unknown to me....... The gift was an Australian Bloodflowers CD (with Coming up), the "DVD" In Orange and, best of all, the new single !! "

    (Thanks Lars)

  • Update on the Standing on a Beach vinyl re-issue:
  • "Just wanted you to know that the SOAB 180g vinyl reissue is just a bootleg release. It has nothing to do (for example) with the Pornography vinyl release from 1999, which was legal."

    (Thanks JYF)

  • More from The Glove:
  • "I just thought you might be interested in knowing that Steve Severin put up an mp3 of a Glove-era song called "Tormented" on his mp3.com site: http://www.mp3.com/stevenseverin

From what I can tell by the credits, it appears to be a solo track by Steve, although he intended to include it (along with 2 other unreleased tracks) on a new US re-issue of Blue Sunshine on Cleopatra (which he decided not to go through with when the folks at Cleopatra didn't even know who he was)... At any rate, it's a Glove-related track."

    (Thanks Josh)

  • Cure covers:
  • "Rollingstone.com announced that dinosaur jr. would be releasing a "best of" album this fall. They note, "Composed mostly of Dinosaur Jr. album tracks from the last fifteen years, exceptions are a cover of the Cure's 'Just Like Heaven'. . ." Here is the web address http://www.rollingstone.com/news/newsarticle.asp?nid=14452"

    (Thanks Nate)

  • Curespotting:
  • "In a free magazine you find on high speed trains in France called TVG, there's an interview of M, the french singer who had made a cover of 'Close to me'. He was asked who he'd love to make a song with. He answered Robert Smith (and David Bowie). "

    (Thanks David)

"I was just eatting some dinner when i heard lovecats coming from the tv. There was some crappy story on the crappy show " A Current Affair " about an old folks home for cats. I think is was a slow news day, but at least they played the right song."

    (Thanks Nick)

"Today in history class, we were watching "Platoon" and the song "adagio for strings" came on and that was the intro for the dream tour, that reminded me of the cure show i went too not to long ago."

    (Thanks Eric B.)

  • The Cure have bought the masters of their performance at Roskilde from P3:
  • "The Danish music industry paper "Gaffa", reports that The Cure have decided to purchase Danish Radio's (P3) recordings of their performance at this years Roskilde Festival - the purchase includes the original tapes and P3's mixes - which The Cure will use later.

For those of you who read Danish, you can find the article at: www.g.dk"

Update: Actually, this story is incorrect. The band did not "buy" the tapes, they own the rights to them (as with any radio broadcast they agree to), so nothing strange or exciting about this, as it is standard practice with the band. The broadcast will still happen on Saturday.

    (Thanks Christoffer)

  • A Cureheads update:
  •

These are some photo's from Spirit FM's live webcam broadcast of our performance at The Rox on The prom festival in Bognor. Thanks to everyone that helped make it happen. It really was the highpoint of our life as a band. The local papers have gone crazy in Sussex claiming that we blew the roof off the stage & brought The festival to a fantastic close on the saturday night.

The Observer Newspaper (A British National) wrote that we had touched the reporter, taking him back to being 16 kissing in the corner of the school disco to Lovecats, he then went on to give a brief rave review of bloodflowers which our concert had prompted him to buy.

After a weeks holiday in Portugal the band are now resting from Curing the world until September when they take on The Smiths Tribute Head 2 head from LA at the underworld in Camden Town London on Sat 8th September.

Then the Cureheads farewell tour begins October 11th with a performance at the charity premiere of "Famous last words" Then Ireland Then USA in Mid October including an appearance on VH1 America.

Some of you may know that Nick our regular drummer broke his leg in 3 places after a gig in Bournemouth. The Cureheads's Curse has struck again, Gary broke his wrist while on Holiday DA DA DAAHH.

Thank you again for your support."

    (Thanks Gary)

  • Curespotting:
  • "On bbc1 today (Aug. 18th) there was a reality tv special of the weakest link with various people from the uk big brother and survivor and castaway and one of the questions was "which uk band had hits with the singles the lovecats and friday i'm in love."

    (Thanks Starla)

"During their headlining gig at Bizarre Festival in Weeze, famous German band DIE AERZTE included a bit (parts of the beginning) of 'A forest' into their song 'Vampyr'."

    (Thanks Dennis)

"I spotted last week at the Hard Rock Cafe in Cabo San Lucas a black and white concert photograph of Robert Smith. It's on the end of the wall, at the very top of the staircase on the left that leads into the dining area. It's a side view, but from the hair, and the Fender guitar neck, I'm guessing its from a show prior to the Wish Tour; I've been to all the tours and festival shows in between since the Wish tour, and I know he didn't look like that."

    (Thanks Mike)

"I just found this in a Morrissey FAQ.

Does Robert Smith of The Cure hate Morrissey? Yes, Robert seems to hate Morrissey as much as Morrissey hates Robert. More recently, things seem to be smoothed over somewhat, as Moz apparently called Robert "a nice person" in a radio interview, and said he had been invited to one of Robert's private parties."

    (Thanks Salvador)

  • 'Standing on a Beach' reissued on vinyl:
  • "I don´t know if somebody already mentioned it, but I just saw a re-release of "Standing on a Beach" (180g Vinyl) at my local record store here in Germany."

    (Thanks Martin)

  • Day 5 of Curevision is up. Re-recording old songs?

  • Cure cover:
  • "kill.pop. just recorded siamese twins for an ep available to record labels and booking agents you can hear it at http://killpop.sunflower.com in the Music section"

    (Thanks Burnt)

  • Curespotting:
  • "Yesterday (Aug. 4th) at the Fantasy Film Fest in Cologne i watched a new movie called "Donnie Darko" and was quite surprised to hear "Just Like Heaven" being played in the middle of a dramatic love scene. But it's not only because of the great music (it's also got Echo's "Killing Moon" and Tears for Fears' "Mad World" in it!) that i suppose you'd love this movie. Imagine Holden Caulfield getting all tangled up in an scifi-y X-Files episode about time travel set in the late 80s, without Mulder&Scully, and you could perhaps get an idea of this movie, which is also wonderfully darkly funny, satirical and touching. It will probably hit American cinemas at the end of October."

    (Thanks Nika)

"This is interesting because of the fact that it coincides with the APEC protests of 1997 and the findings of a report based on this released recently (in Canada, that is). Of course, I'm rather lukewarm towards the subject itself, but nevertheless...

In the August 7 edition of the Toronto Star, there's a picture of a protester being escorted by police. She happens to be wearing a shirt from the '96 Swing Tour. This can be found on page A6. "

    (Thanks Philip)

"I was watching a VH1 special series episode tonight (August 8th, from 10-11 pm est) called "from the waist down:men, women, & music", and about 5 minutes from the end, during the wrap-up conclusion re-summery part, there was a quick flash of robert in a photo montage thing. it looked like a wish-era photo- blue background with robert looking up slightly... kind of random but nice to see robert all the same... ( perhaps because they were talking about glam rock and hair styles earlier in the show)... "

(Thanks midnightt the cure cat girl)

    Aug. 4th

  • Some Cureheads news:
  • "Looking forward to next Saturday's Rox on The Prom Festival. The Cureheads will be onstage around 11pm to Close the saturday's list of Bands. If you cant make it then have a listen to Sprit FM's web service, they're supposed to be covering some of the festival live over the 3 days, so maybe we'll get lucky.

Also, The Cureheads will be having a competition to win a copy of the rare live cd "5 Swing Live". Details can be found at www.thecureheads.com.

    (Thanks Gary)

  • A clarification on the "Robert Self Portrait" story:
  • "Regarding the August 1 item on the Self Portrait

The only "original" writing on the self-portrait is the numbering - the number of the lithograph out of 1250 written in gold marker. The scan of the lithograph on the website does not show the numbering. The signature is not an original, rather it is part of the lithograph.

Original prints include a raised relief in one corner, as opposed to any further copies made beyond that run. The original cost in spring 1991 of the numbered self portrait was $35, rising to $50 later that summer. For the record, I am not affiliated with the original seller of the lithograph."

    (Thanks Michael)

  • Curespotting:
  • "On Mtv's Live and Almost Legal, there was a look back at the 1990-1994 era of Mtv and as the announcer spoke of the alternative wave there was a quick shot of Robert on his 12 string. I dont understand why they werent a part of an earlier era."

    (Thanks Genaro and Cat)

"Just wanted to let you know that i was reading the 7/31 issue of the New York Post and there was a full page article about Pete Yorn. and he was talking about when he was younger and when he started singing he tried to sound like a weird cross between "morrisey and robert smith (of the cure)."

Here's a link to the story on Yahoo: http://dailynews.yahoo.com/h/pagesix/20010729/en/danny_clinch_1.html

    (Thanks Andrew)

"Yesterday (1st August) I was channel surfing on English terrestial television, and one of the channels was showing a documentary called "Through the Eyes of the Young" about the lives of a variety of young people. One man had been paralysed from the waist down after having had a car accident, over part of the film they played the first couple of verses of Friday I'm In Love. "

    (Thanks Celine)

"I'm a student-journalist for a belgium online newspaper called www.lemidi.org and in this weeks edition, I've posted a small article on The Cure's return to the studio (in the culture section) called "Boys don't cry... because the cure are back". Nothing new, just a lazer-info article..."

    (Thanks David)

"here are a few old cure spottings that i keep forgetting to send in. the guitarist in the band that i'm in is really into the hardcore punk band AFI and we were driving to a show one day and he gave me his headphones and told me to listen and what i heard was a really great cover of 'the hanging garden.' many punk bands cover the cure but the AFI cover is by far the best cure cover by a punk band i've ever heard- it's both VERY faithful to the original and mixes their own punk take on the song into it. it's definitely worth checking out.

the next cure spotting i had was with the band again- we were eating in wendy's (again on the way to a show) and some of the melodies that i heard on the muzak that was playing sounded familiar and then all of us got quiet and listened to hear an instrumental and very cheesy version of 'just like heaven' using a piano for the verse melody- it was hilarious and very bizarre."

    (Thanks a boy)

  • The Cure have posted Day 3 of Curevision in the studio. Be sure to keep checking the official site for more updates. And for those who wrote in about it, yes that WAS "Just Say Yes" being played in the Day 1 clip.

  • And if you are having any trouble with viewing the files:
  • "Roger has authorized me to make my curevision site a mirror for the quicktime files, since their site is very slow sometimes and it's probably overloaded. The link to it is http://www.picturesfromcurevision.com and there you can see pix from the previous 97 curevision sessions. So fans that may be having problems with the speed of thecure.com can find an alternative place to get these files. My site has a macromedia flash menu, but there is a text link at the bottom of the page with the links for people that dont have the plugin. "

    (Thanks BACO)

  • Curespotting:
  • "I don't know if this is old news or not, but while trying my best to pretend summer finals week is not actually next week, I was watching VH1 about half an hour ago. The show was Hit This. While talking about the "Women of Rock" they interviewed Gwen from No Doubt. They asked her what albums she was listening to right now, and the first one was Bloodflowers. They showed the cover of Bloodflowers and a few pics of The Cure, she said it was her favorite right now!"

    (Thanks Cambria)

"Just purchased a copy of People Magazine with MTV Turns 20on the cover (a special edition). Robert Smith is on page 52 under 'What were they thinking?' Don't know if you've seen it yet. If not, it reads "Robert Smith - The lead singer of the Cure (at the 1989 VMAs) could have used a good detangler, notes Sahag. Still, "He was way ahead of his time with the bed-head look."

    (Thanks Rosemary, Danny, Stephen)

"In this weeks issue of Focus Knack, a Belgian magazine, there was an article on 20 years of MTV. They also made a top 15 on the best music videos of all time and, well not really to my suprise, the Cure were at #7 with Close To Me."

    (Thanks Christoph)

"Saturday July 28th, I was watching Rock -N- Roll Jepordy. And the answer that was given was, "Which came first, The Clash, The Troggs, The Cure." The answer was "who was the troggs" Wierd Al was the 1 that answered it correctly."

    (Thanks Jennifer)

"On German Sport Television (DSF) I was surprised to hear Cure's "Out Of This Worls" as some german soccer fans travelled to Minsk. As they arrived in Minsk even "Bloodflowers" and "Watching Me Fall" were played in the backround. This is Sport TV I like..."

    (Thanks Vince)

"This is great! Today, July 29th, I visited the Caves of Fátima, in Portugal. It´s called the "Gruta da Moeda", or Coin Cave. Anyway, there is this bar inside the cave, that is just amazing, and when I was going down into the cave-bar I listened to the introduction of Hot Hot Hot...They were playing "Galore" in the cave! It was fantastic! And when I heard lovesong, well, that was strange (because of the videoclip). I found out that the barman is a fan too. Thanks to him for this moment!"

    (Thanks Claudio)

"I don't know if anyone has ever noticed this before or not... but i was browsing through old toys on the Brunching Shuttlecocks page and stumbled on a cure mention.... here's the passage and the link to the page for the goth quote generator toy it's referring to...

"One thing we've discovered in looking over Tina the Troubled Teenager's foster homes on the Web is that nothing jazzes up a goth site -- to the extent that a goth site can be said to be "jazzed" -- like a depressing, self-absorbed, and/or morbid quote in a nice red font. The problem is that with the current expansion of goth culture, soon all Anne Rice books, Coleridge poetry, and Cure lyrics will be sucked dry (as it were) leaving no quotes for future Web pages, vampire-themed literary anthologies, and roleplaying game supplements.

To stave off this sad time, we've created the Random Goth Quote Generator, which will obligingly churn out quotes for our nation's mascara-wearing, black-lace-enshrouded masses as long and as often as needed. May the peace of the grave be yours always, or something like that." http://www.brunching.com/toys/toy-gothquote.html
