July 24th, 1998 - Cernobbio (Como), Italy (Laghi Lombardi)

Review by Luca Pezzoni

The show started at 22.15 after some technical problems...but..anyway the first song was shake dog shake , a good song and a good sound...Jason did good work ....and robert seems happy....some songs seems to me very good..like 100 years or kyoto song..others like wrong number seems to me not so good ... in particular mode the guitars parts...i think Porl Thompson is a better guitarist than Perry, but anyway Simon’s bass was great ..as usual!( my personal idea is this: the band needs another guitarist!) A fantasic playlist : i appreciate especially a strange day & if only tonight we could sleep but also the others songs were great in this retrospective concert .

Hilights: shake dog shake ,a strange day ,100 years , trust.

Better song : if only tonight we could sleep or 10:15 Saturday night? I don’t know...

Imperfections: the lightshow wasn’t so good like in the swing tour !

Attendance 12.000

The show (1h50m long) was amazing, most of all at the beginning and at the end. The old songs were played very well (100 Years: it's the 1st time I hear this song live and now I'm asking what have I gone to see the last 4 times, when they didn't play it!) Very beatiful (and unexpected) If only tonight we could sleep.

A couple of words to define a long, good, but not the best concert played by the band. After this concert I'm convinced, more than ever, that The cure need a real guitarist, because Perry is nothing more than a beginner. He doesn't know what playing the guitar means, and,of course,Robert cannot do all the job by himself. The setlist was great, although the band was not at their best.It seemed as if they didn't have practised enough.Robert sang well, but, maybe,he didn't feel like playing the guitar.Perry just acted,as usual.Roger did his job.Jason cannot still compete with Boris.Simon was a real God.Another great performance by a man who always gives his best on stage, and always deserves the applause by the whole audience.Listening to his bass is a pleasure.

Just a couple of words about the concert...first of all I must say the place chosen for the concert was little, but really really nice. It was great to see that, even if it was a festival, almost everybody was there for the Cure...to be honest...I was expecting it!

I agree with Katia, the concert was great but not the best I have seen so far (which remains the one in London, December 1997)...the sound wasn't always perfect, but on the other hand Robert seemed to be happier than ever (I wonder what he'd been drinking for the whole night...ah!ah!ah!), talked a lot and played lovely songs.

The Cure played almost all the songs they usually do live; it wouldn't be that bad to hear something else at the beginning of the show...in fact they usually start with Plainsong, Shake dog shake or Open...what about trying something new?

It was so nice hearing A strange day, Trust, and especially Sinking...it was the first time I had heard it live. If only they had done "Push", "A forest" or "Cold" it would have been perfect, but to be honest if they played all the songs I like the concert would last lots more than two hours!
