Sept. 17th-New York,N.Y. (Radio City Music Hall)

Review by Chris The Exploding Boy

again another morning of laziness and phone calls, as i had to get down to
the NBC building from queens to watch the taping of conan o'brian.thru
rain and haze and getting lost, i made it there on-time to wait around for
hours 'till they finally sat us down in the studio.i knew about half the
audience, which consisted of a majority of cure fans (it was actually really
easy to get tickets for the show, compared to SNL) which would be the reason
why everyone made so much noise every time the cure was mentioned.i sat in
boredom thru the guests (though i did wake up occasionally to check if that
model-actress girl had floated away yet) and the band finally came out during
the commercial break before they went on,where robert and jason looked quite
nervous. as most of you saw, they did a humourous version of strange
attraction, and did boys don't cry to close off the show.from there it was
off to get a bite to eat and wait around for the show that evening.
with time to spare, i ended up teasing my hair all up before the show, and
it ended up resulting in a wonderful experience, which comes later.we got
in, and i think it was an almost sold out show, as most of the balcony
seats were occupied. i had second row tix for this show, which was great.
however, my friends sherri, marriane and mike were sitting up in first row
a bit to the left of me, and since people were still coming in,i walked over
the them and we talked and such for a while. after 15 minutes there,
none of the security around us even noticed me as an extra person in the
aisle, so we decided i would just stay there the whole show!the lights
finally went down, and my view was incredible. there is no pit or barrier at
radio sity, so we were basically leaning our arms on the stage.(security
made us take a step back eventually though) the chimes start, and i'm in
heaven as the band walk out. so we're swaying about, and suddenly i look
up and robert is just standing there staring at me with a big smile on his
face. (as i said above, my hair was all teased really robert-ish,so i guess
he thought it was fun) and suddenly he walks right towards me and stops a
few feet away, the whole time just with this huge grin, and of course i'm
just standing there smiling back. sherri gave him some flowers, and he
walked back and started singing. as anyone would imagine, this is easily up
there as my top three cure-moments. ummm, the set was quite good, they did
shiver and shake and end as the unexpected songs, figurehead was even better
than hartford, and if only tonight... was in the top three of the night for
me. i also got to hear gone for the first time live (it's my favourite of
the new album) piggy in the mirror was wonderful, and deep green sea was only
the 2nd time i've ever had tears in my eyes at a cure show (first time was
the kiss in toronto) a forest was really good, and when it stopped jason
started an unfamiliar drum-beat. suddenly all the roadies and band were
frantic, shouting "slower slower!!!" and he stopped, and started again with
the correct drums for faith. it was beautiful...my first time seeing faith,
and it was as good as ever. while he was singing my whole head went dizzy
and everything was silent and still, except for robert in that spotlight,
eyes closed and almost whispering the lyrics. the show ended with faith,
and the band just walked off...robert said very little, just thankyou, and
then "maybe we'll see you again" or something like that.again we went up
to the backstage area to sit around a room for 1/2 hour.chris parry came in
for a bit and i talked to him for a few minutes about the tour overall and
such. then big brian came in and said the band wouldn't be coming in, so we
left and made our way to the spy club where the after show party was held.
the club was really nice inside, and jason and perry arrived early on and
everyone did what they did for most of the night.as a sidenote,i saw sarah
gilbert there (darlene on roseanne) which was cool to know she is a big cure
fan, which i had heard before.after a while it looked like no-one else
would show up, but finally we saw robert's hair outside the door talking
and signing and such.again he looked pretty out of it,and he made his way
to the back of the club to this raised area with a few couches and seats and
such. luckaly a few people i knew were already there,so i and a few others
managed to grab a couch directly across from robert. ummm, for about
an hour we just watched him talk to fans and friends, and then everyone got
up to leave. i managed to get my pic with him on his way out,but that's
about it. oh! i had discovered earlier that day that M had been on the
setlist originally for that night, but that robert had scratched it out.
this annoyed me very much, because M is a favourite live song, and i STILL
haven't seen it done. anyways, after the picture was taken,i just said
"robert, you didn't play M!" and he looks up with this guilty look on his
face, and goes "i'm sorry." so it's cool that i at least got an apology...
they all got into their vans and drove off, and the last of us huddled
together in the rain and cold and wind and said our last goodbyes to each
other.

this wraps up my adventures in cure-land, it was a wonderful summer and
really couldn't have been much better. i would like to say thankyou, and
send lotsofluv to all those who were there along the way, including (it's
a long list); sherri and brian greenspan, justine, mike & marrianne, pakrat,
cindi, jenn, ronnie, aimee and olivier, vitalli, time merchant and star
traveller, mel, goblin, andrew, yanik, mike & autumn, jean & marie,
aroosha(sp?), and everyone else who i might have forgotten.
