Sept. 16th-New York,N.Y. (Radio City Music Hall)
Review by Brian Bassill
Well I am back in Boston and very tired after getting only one hour of sleep
and working all day.Overall I was happy and dissappointed about the show.I
was in the Mezzanine second row and was busy taking pictures of the stage and
Radio City itself, when huge clouds of fog began blowing in.I figured they
were about to come on at 8,but they actually didn't go on til around 8:30.I
heard the chimes of Plainsong and I began to shake uncontrollably.I had
goosebumps up and down my arms and then everything just got so damn bright.I
had to be the only one standing up in the Mezzanine. My dream of hearing
Plainsong finally came true. Then they went into a very powerful version of
Want-amazing.The lighting was the best of the three shows I've been to and
the sound was perfect! Loud but very tolerable.Anyways, like someone else
wrote,a basic set list after that with the exception of Dressing Up.Prayers
for Rain,Like Cocatoos and FTEOTDGS were mezmerising.Jupiter Crash almost
brought me to tears. This may sound cheesy but I just imagined being with a
girl that I was so in love with, dancing along a beach under a moonlit sky,
listening to this song.
Did anyone there last night hear two people yelling FAITH,FAITH!! just after
they came back after the main set??That was me and my friend and if I heard
right,I could have sworn that Robert said,"Shut Up,Shut Up" refering to us.
If anyone heard this, let me know.Well Robert came to life during the first
encore. He began to sing to the crowd off to the left and then to the right,
singing the now infamous,WCIBY,Young at Heart,Lovecats medley. He then
began to come up the right side of Radio City climbing a set of stairs that
are probably meant for the workers only.He said something to the effect of
"Now I can see you all." I was very dissapointed that we didn't get a third
encore.I mean there were 2 three song encores and I was sure that we would at
least get Forest if not Faith, but nothing.I don't even think they played for
2 and a half hours.I felt a little ripped off but none the less a good show.
One dissadvantage of being on this list is that we all become so used to the
basic set lists from reading all the reviews that the whole element of
surprise is taken away.I mean as soon as they finished Trap,I said,"Here
comes Prayers for Rain".Oh well, thats the price you gotta pay to get all the
info about the shows.Right now I am kicking myself for not going to Hartford
Sunday night.I really didn't have the cash to go,but I would have found a
way.Just to have heard Figurehead and 100 Years.Man I am really jealous.I
just figured that it wouldn't be a good show because it seemed nobody was
talking about it.I guess I learned my lesson.
Worcester 7/2/96-------Great Woods 9/12/96-----------Radio City 9/16/96
Its been fun!!!!
Dreaming of a tour next year and hoping to hear Faith-live sometime in my
life.
Review by Chris The Exploding Boy
i stayed over at pakrat's and woke up in the morning somewhat less excited
and awake than cindi and ratt about going to watch the band shoot some pool
that afternoon.we got to the chelsea pool hall and saw jenn and her friends
there, and more people we knew started showing up as time went by.everyone
who signed on as alternates for the tournament got to play,so we went about
practicing for the "big game." after a long time we finally began the first
round of pool, and ratt and i lost right away,as did almost everyone else we
knew. it got extremely boring at this point,as everyone just stood around
waiting for the cure to arrive for a few hours, and they gave microphones
to very annoying Z100 people.finally the band came upstairs (except for
robert, who never did make an appearance) and roger and jason played as a
team, as did simon and perry. at the end of it all the band went into the
crowd and did their celebrity bit for about 1/2 hour and that part was over.
a couple of friends did manage to go to the downstairs part where robert was
the whole time playing pool. we walked down to radio city where we waited
around for the show and such. after a big ticket mix-up (umm, i forget
what happened :P ) i had missed them open up with plainsong again, and
missed the next couple of songs as well.the night kept getting better, as
an usher stole my camera, and i spent even more songs arguing with managers
and such, as they refused to believe that an usher would just TAKE a camera,
i finally gave up the lost cause and went to my seat for the first time
which was about 6th row roger's side, and we watched the rest of the very
boring set-list.i don't think they played a single 'rare' song that night,
and they finished very early with killing an arab. from there a few
of us went up-stairs to the backstage thing, where we sat in a little room
with free beer and pop and a phone. after 1/2 hour roger came in for about
20 seconds and left, and that was that. we decided to just leave, as we had
heard the band weren't coming in. so we went into the hallway to wait for
an elevator, and while waiting, robert and brian (big security guy) walk out
of a door and right beside us waiting for an elevator.my friend said a few
words to robert, but robert seemed very not-there,kind of mumbled something
and got into the elevator.we took the stairs down and arrived just in time
to see them take robert into the van and drive away to the hotel.there was
an after-show party at the prohibition club, and it turned out to be the best
part of the evening.only jason and roger ending up coming, but it was
really nice to sit around and enjoy all the delights of an open-bar. :P
towards the end things got a bit blurry, but we left at around 4am and i got
home and stumbled into sleep.
