Update: Claire did not play the remix (which is for 'Just Say Yes', not 'CuT HEre') on tonight's show. If you were listening, she said a fan named Fernando asked her not to play it tonight because he had exams and would miss it, so Claire agreed to hold it for Monday's show. I e-mailed her about this and as expected, there seems to be some legal problems with playing it tonight, but she swears the guy in Mexico is real and that she will play it as soon as she can.

"The band Recorder wrote a song about The Cure. it's on mp3.com at http://artists.mp3s.com/artist_song/850/850951.html
in my opinion it sounds pretty bad, but it's amusing. here's what they say about the song, followed by the lyrics:
Story Behind the Song
A friend gave me two very old albums from the band 'The Cure'. When I was little I didn't like that band at all. But when I became older and more aware, I could appriciate there music more and more. When I received those two albums I decided to write a song about the band that inspired me, because the Cure was 'the first band in my life.'
Lyrics
The Cure was the first band in my life Once I found a tape that didn't sound so nice
chorus: Play for Today, In your house, M, At night, Seventeen seconds, Boys don't cry, Jump someone else's train, Let's go to bed, Close to me.
After some time I heard it again Now I had to admit it didn't sound so bad
chorus
When a group plays the song you can hardly ignore You understand what he sings and you feel it too Deep in your heart you think it's all about you That's when you hear a great band!
The Cure was the first band in my life Now I know for sure I'm glad about that
chorus"

"I wanted to tell you that MTV2 just played the "Boys Don't Cry" and "Friday I'm In Love" videos back to back. I was in such a droll mood up until then! It's funny how The Cure's music affects me in a such a dramatic way. They really are my all time favorite...I guess I just wanted to say how I appreciate them!"

"Just to let you know, on TLC they showed a program called Ten Days of Tragedy, I believe, and Adagio for Strings was played throughout. It was really sad."

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE SEPTEMBER 25, 2001
THE CURE TO RELEASE DEFINITIVE GREATEST HITS PACKAGE WITH SIXTEEN CLASSICS PLUS
TWO BRAND NEW SONGS
INITIAL SHIPMENTS AVAILABLE IN TWO VERSIONS - LIMITED PREMIUM PACKAGE WITH BONUS DISC OF'UNPLUGGED' ACOUSTIC PERFORMANCES OR REGULAR SINGLE-DISC PACKAGE
Legendary British group The Cure is about to release a long-awaited Greatest Hits album that will feature two brand new tracks, including the new single "Cut Here," as well as many other unprecedented offerings from the acclaimed supergroup. The Cure Greatest Hits, which is scheduled to hit stores November 13, will be initially available in two versions: a limited edition premium package containing a bonus CD - Acoustic Hits - containing new 'unplugged' acoustic recordings of the complete greatest Hits tracklist, and the regular, single-disc package.
The CD release will be followed on November 27 by special DVD and VHS companion releases that will also include The Cure's groundbreaking videos plus intimate film footage of the band performing six of the 'unplugged' acoustic songs mentioned above.
Robert Smith, enigmatic frontman of The Cure, says that those who have waited patiently for a definitive greatest hits package won't be disappointed. "Say this is it - don't say maybe, don't say no...," says Smith. The album is an all-encompassing Cure retrospective culled from the band's 33 commercial single releases, featuring songs from every era of their illustrious 23 year career.
Among the classics are songs such as "Boys Don't Cry," "The Lovecats," Inbetween Days," "Why Can't I Be You?," "Lovesong," "Friday I'm In Love," and "Wrong Number." "Say this is it - don't say hold on, don't say slow...," says Smith. He adds that it was "good fun" recording the acoustic versions. "We wanted to do it to make the 'hits' package a bit more special. This collection contains the songs that are sung with a smile - The Cure's 'lighter side.' At some point I hope there will be a follow-up collection to show off the best of The Cure's 'darker' side."
The Cure have also filmed two videos for the new studio songs. The clips, included in the DVD and VHS releases, were lensed by noted video director Richard Anthony.

"I heard the track again last night on Xfm and I have to agree with the guy who said there is a New Order sound to it. In fact, it's so obvious that I wouldn't be surprised if they've done it on purpose. I'm afraid I can't really remember the lyrics. It seems to be about lost love. There's a bit that crops up that goes something like "I should have had that drink" and another bit talking about something that happened 3 (or was it 5?) years ago. Not much help I'm afraid. The only bit I remember clearly is towards the end when Robert sings "I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you" and it sounded just like the end of 'Age Of Consent' by New Order when he sings "I've lost you, I've lost you, I've lost you, I've lost you, I've lost you". I'll let you know if I hear any more."

"I know you'll probably be inundated with posts like this but I thought UK fans might like to know that 'Cut Here' is already being played on the radio. Xfm played it this morning. It's a pleasant, poppy song which sounds like it will be quite catchy after a few listens. The DJ said it got a good reaction from listeners so it looks like it might make a god job of promoting the Greatest Hits album."
(Thanks Andrew)
"Just a quick note to say that XFM radio station in London played the new single "Cut Here" this morning at approx 7:50 a.m. Very catchy with more than a hint of New Order."

New "Cuts" from the Cure
Despite rumors and statements to the contrary, it seems the Cure are not ready to pack it in just yet. The veteran mope-rockers will issue a new Greatest Hits album in November. The album will feature two new studio recordings from Robert Smith and company. In addition, the first pressings of the album will come with a limited edition double disc featuring new, acoustic recordings of Cure favorites. The hits album will be preceded by a new single, "Cut Here," in late October.

"Yesterday (Wednesday 19th September), I was watching TOTP2 on British terrestrial television. It's a weekly show with a selection of past performances from artists on TOTP the weekly music chart show...to my great delight a performance (from one of my favourite bands featuring someone from my all time favourite band) was shown from 1983, Siouxsie and the Banshees performing Dear Prudence at a time when Robert Smith was a guitarist with the band! The performance came inbetween Twiggy and the band The Drifters, and at the end the presenter, Steve Wright, said "...you may have seen my old friend Mad Bob Smith as well..."

"Following recent horrific events in the USA , The Cureheads have postponed most of thier planned US tour dates. We feel that it is neither appropriate or fair to push or engage our US promoters in Washington, Philly, NYC or NJ when they have other much more important things currently on their minds. We will however reschedule these dates as soon as is appropriate depending on what plans the Cure have for promoting their new album. ( You dont need us if they are around ). However, The Cureheads will be keeping commitments In Chicago & Tulsa in Oklahoma. Nov 1st @ The Vic in Chicago & Nov 2nd @ The majestic in Tulsa Oklahoma. We are planning 2 fully loaded sets especially rehearsed for the states. We will be donating as much of our fee as possible to the New York Fire Department relief fund & Taking up collections for the same at each venue. We are all thinking about you. Even though we are all even more scared of flying now we look forward to sharing the music of The Cure with you.
Love Gary, Rachael,Nick,Sean & Jeremy."

"The Cure, Greatest Hits + 1 W/Bonus CD (2CDs): Japanese pressing of their forthcoming greatest hits collection is scheduled to include one bonus track. The initial pressing will also include a bonus disc (details of which are T.B.A.). The Cure have reportedly recorded 4 new songs for this collection, and two of which will be released as singles. A word of caution on this Japanese piece, The bonus disc is NOT limited to the Japanese pressing. Every territory at present has this slated to come out on their respective editions. Also the bonus track on this Japanese pressing will not be an unreleased track, but lifted from one of their previous albums. Track listing is still to be confirmed. $36.00"

CURE-IOS!
THE CURE are to re-record acoustic versions of some of their hit singles for their forthcoming 'GREATEST HITS' compilation.
The group release their Greatest Hits album on November 12. A spokesperson for the group told NME.COM that the record will feature two brand new studio recordings from the group.
In addition, the album will inirially be released as a limited edition double disc, with the extra record containing new, acoustic recordings of some of their "big hits".
The Cure have snubbed persistant rumours of a split to return to the studio, and as a result the album will be preceded by a brand new single, 'Cut Here', which is released on October 29.

"In Les Inrockuptibles, french weekly music and culture paper, the #304 issue, 11-17 sept 2001, briefly reviews the numerous soon-to-be-released albums of this autumn. Page 48, in a long article titled 'A Quiet Flood' about the more well-known or older bands, after a line about Placebo they write:
"Still in the aviary of crows, be aware that a best of Cure with two previously unreleased tracks arrives just in time (note: there's an untranslatable play on word: 'pile poil plume') for Christmas -nov12th- while a more than improbable tribute will be out a few weeks before.
'Imaginary Songs' -october- will see a reunion of experts as organ traffickers, essentialy French, operate on Bobby Smith alive so as to read again their youth in the fruit of his entrails once blessed. There will be M, LT.NO, Mickey 3D, Dionysos, and even the Little Rabbits laboriously cramming their classic. Except for Béatrice Ardisson (?), who could be interested in this?"

"About The Cure... At the beginning of this week it was diffused on french tv an episode of "Un Gars Une Fille" ("A Man A Girl") : a french comedy. The guy and his girlfriend were in a club... They were on the dance floor and danced to "In Between Days"... The guy said that he remembers when he was a Cure fan... And we saw him with Robert's style (big hair, wearing black)..."

"On Monday, September 10th...... I was flipping channels and obviously was very bored on my day off, because I lingered for a bit on 'The View'. The segment was a fashion show, and the models consisted of staff and crew members and their families. The few minutes that I happened upon just before going to commercial, the background music that happened to be playing quite loud was in fact: Lullaby. Very interesting I must say!"

"An interesting little tidbit in the November issue of Elle caught my eye. An article about two fashion consultants influencing designers, reads "Looking back to their '80s school days, Bidault-Waddington and Deeken suggested The Cure's hits "Why Can't I Be You?" and "Wrong Number" to set the mood on the Marc Fall runway." (As in Marc Jacobs). Just thought I'd share. "

"I found this review in the Guardian (A British national Newspaper )today whilst I was on the Tube on the way to work. I didnt get to go to the gig myself but wish that I had."
"This Weekend I was CURED by a man in red Lippy, then visually assaulted by a man holding flowers and wearing a rather nice cardigan". Along with six hundred other thirty somethings I found myself crammed into a dark basement below the world famous World's End Pub, In Camden Town North London. We were here to witness the climax of a fued held since the early 1980's between arguably 2 of Britain's biggest ever rock acts. The Smiths and The Cure.
Represented by in The Blue corner for The Smiths; All the way from LA USA "The Delicate Young Hooligans" & in The Red Corner For The Cure on thier home turf "The Cureheads". The tribute scene in England has been rife with awful Abba & Beatles tributes for years now, sparked off no doubt by the awful ITV Karaoke challenge; " Stars in Their Eyes" which sees Derick The Dyslexic Digger Driver put away his builder's crack for half an hour to truly believe that he looks and sounds exactly like Pavarotti to the applause of 200 pensioners who have been promised the autograph of that nice man Mathew Kelly if they behave themselves & clap in all the right places.
Tonight is definately different. The Cure although still hugely popular & active in Europe & The States, have faded somewhat in popularity in The U.K. over the last few years. This is echoed several times when I ask different people why they are here to spend money to see a tribute to a band that has not yet officially ended. "You maybe get to see the Cure in England once every 5 years. Even then they never seem to put the same effort into it as they do abroad", is the shouted answer I get from Simon a Plasterer who has travelled from Northampton in The Cure T-Shirt that he informs me is over 15 years old. "It's better than staying in and waiting for The Cure to come around and play. These guys (The Cureheads) are good too & they have a laugh", is Jenny's reason for travelling from Cambridge tonight. Not misled in the least by the fact that their heroes have seemingly desserted them The Cure fans seem to heavily out number the Smiths fans 2-1.
The atmosphere is building as we watch the sets of two other tributes to Gary Numan & The Essex boys Depeche Mode. After another hour and 3 more beers I am begining to enjoy myself and actually am quite excited when The Lights dim & Through the smoke I see a Ghostly Apparition of what really does appear to be; The Cure forming. The crowd push forward as the first heavy bass notes of a song I've never heard before pull me forward too. Then a song I recognise from The Cure's Last album Bloodflowers. Now I can compare.
The Hooligans have travelled from LA for tonight, which begin's their first UK tour. When Thier Morrisey man runs on and showers the crowd with Daffs & Gladioli they are in the palm of his hands till the end of the set, only breifly interrupted by a staged theatrical fight between Morrisey & The Cureheads vocalist which ended with the whole audience onstage for a drunken rendition of "Midnight" & The Cure & The Smiths arm in arm. So are tribute bands a good thing or a bad thing? I dont know. I'll leave it for you to decide. I was too busy enjoying myself to check.
Bryan Forbes"

"This is totally uninteresting but, the MSN radio "Mondo Retro: New Wave Hits" usually selected in the "cure" room, samples 'Watching Me Fall' in their jingle. woo."

By Lars Brandle, London July 10, 2001
BMG Music Publishing U.K. is acquiring Fiction Songs, the British-based independent publisher that represents the Cure. Following the deal, Fiction founder Chris Parry and GM Ita Martin will focus on Parry's label, Fiction Records. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
For the past six years, BMG Music Publishing has subpublished Fiction's catalog for the world excluding the U.K. Other key Fiction acts include the Associates, Mandy Moore, Cypress Hill, and Anastacia. "There is plenty of activity planned with the Cure and Robert Smith in the coming year," notes Paul Curran, managing director of BMG Music Publishing U.K.
M3 Links With Chum For BBC Webcasts
By Erik Gruenwedel, L.A. August 08, 2001
Streaming firm Musicmusicmusic.com (M3) has forged a deal with Canadian syndicator Chum Radio Network to Webcast a series of concerts by modern rock acts. The "BBC In-Concert" series will begin after Labor Day, featuring classic concerts by Depeche Mode, the Smiths, Smashing Pumpkins, the Cure, and the Cult, and more recent performances by the likes of Beck, Oasis, Travis, Radiohead, Coldplay, and the Dave Matthews Band. M3 has a licensing deal with the BBC for streaming of the material, which it plans to make available to radio stations across North America.
M3, which is publicly traded on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange, reported in January that it has only seven months of funding available. Its stock closed yesterday up two cents at 26 cents.
"Today on the game show network, they had a question.. "Which English band from 1983 sang the hit song, Too Shy..?"
A. Abc
B. The Cure
C. Kajagoogoo
Of course we all know its not B. But I thought it was kind of weird to show that question during family feud..(it was on the side along with other questions, as the game was on)."
