"I was reading today's 'Metro' newspaper, and saw a Q&A with Paul Oakenfold. In response to the last question, which was:
What's on your car stereo?
he answered:
The new Cure album. It's great. It doesn't come out until next year but I'm really impressed by it."

"He lost weight and seems really happy with the new album
He's sure that this album will be a masterpiece along with Pornography and Disintegration.
He thinks that this line up is the best the Cure has ever had.
He said that "BloodFlowers" is probably the last Cure album...but he likes to tell the other members of the band that a new album is the last one, so he forces everyone to put his best into the recording.
They will tour after the release of the album (according to Daryl Bamonte, personnal assistant).
Tim Burton asked The Cure to compose the music of his new film "Sleepy Hollow", but they were too busy on the new album and turned down the proposition.
He wrote "39" on the day of his 39th birthday (21st april last year)."
"I just wanted to let you know that the "M" album was released yesterday and contains a cover of Close to me, as you already mentioned. This version is pretty strange, with accoustic guitars, funny guitar effects, and was translated into French. Here are the French lyrics:
If you don't live in France and want to buy the album, write to aimeclub@magic.fr,
the e-mail address of the official fan club."

The first place is owned by The Beatles with "Abbey Road", and for informa tion : U2 (19th), David Bowie (28th), Nirvana (41st), Sex Pistols (75th), REM (84th), Bjork (92nd)."

"Between 1987's Kiss Me and 1989's Disintegration he tried writing a book of short stories. The first, The Last Day Of Summer, he was chuffed with.
It was about me as I would have liked to be as a little boy - an imaginary last summer, just as you're beginning to be aware you're growing up. It was all the missed opportunities, all the things I wished I'd done, written as though I'd done them. "

"Bloodflowers"
Total Running Time - 57:59
Oct. 25th
#1 - There wasn't a press conference in NYC! No announcement of a split or of this being the final album.
#2 - The new songs sound wonderful and the band looked great! They were very focused, very professional and seemed to have enjoyed the show.
#3 - There hasn't been an announcement about the air date for Hard Rock Live, but you can look for it to air sometime in the first quarter of 2000 (most likely in Feb.). And unless things change, The Cure will only get about 25 minutes on the show.
#4 - The band met with some radio people after the show, and they had a chance to hear the new album. Also, some copies of the album may have been given out to a few people. If you're one of them and you're reading this, please contact us! : )
(I do want to stress that NO audio files of the new album will be posted on this site (unless the band gives their approval), nor will we link to any sites that post them. I'm sure some of you will be disappointed with that decision, but we want to respect the bands wishes regarding this matter.)
#5 - The track listing is confirmed and looks like this (on the promos) :
"Bloodflowers" - Tracklisting
#6 - Robert should be doing some international
interviews this week. I hope to have more about this soon.
Here's what the front and back look like:

"Hello ...
So, how is Pink Pig going?
Great! We've got lots of covers already ... the quality of the material is excellent (way better than expected), so we're really happy about this. It feels great to realize all the love and effort people put into their work. We thank all the pinkpiggers for this :)
We're trying to be as organized as possible, keeping our lists updated and transferring the covers to CD as soon as we get them. Organization is a key aspect of the whole thing ... that's why have just sent out our second "folow up" to those who haven't submitted their covers yet. So if you get one, please answer it and returned it ASAP. On November 1st, we'll e-mail those who didn't answer and if there's still no response, we'll make their song available again at the Pink Pig site.
Keep an eye on
http://usuarios.interar.com.ar/german/pinkpig/home.htm
(we'll be updating the page soon)
If you're making a cover and didn't receive the follow up mail, please, contact us at pinkpigers@yahoo.com
hmmm... what else? The artwork: it's coming out ... many cool ideas .... it will be a very neat presentation :) :)
Overall, it's going to be an awesome set .. can't wait to get it done!
Finally, for those who are mailing their covers, remember to include the following info
- name, members and pic of the band /yourself
- when, where and how was the song recorded
That's it for now. Again, thanks a lot for your support and colaboration
Love Flor, German & Juan Jose"
"I went to see the new Kimberly Peirce film "Boys Don't Cry" last night, which is the movie about Brandon Teena, the Nebraska resident who was born a female (named Teena Brandon) but lived as a male before being murdered in 1993 at the age of 21. The film does have a cover version of the song used for the movie's title, performed by Nathan Larson of Shudder to Think. Although it certainly can't touch the original, I think it's far superior to the Oleander version! I haven't heard about a release date for the soundtrack yet, but I would imagine the song would definitely be on there."

"Just called 102.1 and they tell me they do not have Bloodflowers. However, they have sent a reporter to NYC for the HRL taping to do an interview with the band, which will hopefully air sometime soon."

Just wanted to let everyone know that we made
it to New York and are having a great time, but there's just too much to
do and not enough time! Expect a report on the HRL taping Tuesday night.
And if anything happens before then, we'll report on that too.
" I was just listening to Edge 102 (102.1
Toronto), and they said that they have a full copy of the new Cure CD sitting
right there, and sometime around the NYC taping (actually, I think they
mentioned next Saturday, but I didn't catch the whole thing so I'm not
sure), they said they're planning on playing a few songs from the new album!!!!!!!!!!
So, anybody who's listening at the right time this week might get a cool
preview of the album!"

Update (Oct. 15th - 2:46pm): I have completely
removed yesterday's story about the ticket confusion. It has come to my
attention that at least one member of the band was quite upset with what
was reported. To that person I sincerely apologize, especially if he feels
it hurt the band. That was never my intention and I stressed that it was
a rumor and that I wasn't sure if it was true. I believed the source because
of past info he has provided, and in my haste to find out if this report
was true or not, I didn't take the time to get the story officially confirmed
or denied. I know better than to do that, and it was a stupid mistake.
It will not happen again!
"All weekend long FNX has TIX to some of the COOLEST shows in Boston! We've got your passes to MATTHEW SWEET at The Paradise, plus PRIMUS, WILCO and SAVE FERRIS at Avalon!!! Plus we'll have TONS of passes to the FNX world premiere screening of "Boys Don't Cry" from FOX Searchlight Pictures....

Amos, Cole highlight new ``Hard Rock'' season
HOLLYWOOD (Variety) - Tori Amos and the Paula Cole Band are among performers scheduled to appear on the 1999-2000 season of ``Hard Rock Live Presented by Blue from American Express'' -- VH1's long-running concert series, which began taping Oct. 11 at Manhattan's Sony Studios.
Production will continue through Thursday, with artists Meredith Brooks, Buckcherry, Duran Duran, Robbie Williams, the Cure, Motley Crue and Sixpence None the Richer also scheduled to tape.
A new live component of the show, ``Hard Rock Live Presented by Blue from American Express -- The Tour,'' will kick off in L.A. on Tuesday, headlined by Beth Hart. Net proceeds from the 10-city tour will go to VH1 Save the Music Foundation to benefit public school music programs.

Zillo (They mention the rumour that there will not be any singles because the album is too gloomy).
Visions (They mention the rumour about this being the last album)
(Thanks Lars)
And on a personal note, Nadine and I will be flying to New York on Sat. afternoon in order to attend the HRL taping (Thanks Laura & Warren!) and to cover anything else that might pop up. But we will have the laptop, so if everything works out, we'll still be able to receive e-mail and update the website. If not, then we will update when we get back (late Wednesday). Good luck to everyone trying to win tickets!

"The Cure Give Fans Bloody Valentine
The Cure will perform material from their long awaited new, studio album Blood Flowers and classics from their twenty year career next week during a taping of VH1's Hard Rock Live in midtown Manhattan next week. According to the band's official site, www.thecure.com, Blood Flowers (rumored to be a Pornography-era gloomfest in the same vein as 1989's Disintegration) will hit stores on Valentine's Day (February 15 in the U.S.) of next year. That Bob Smith... he's still a hopeless romantic, isn't he? The Cure's episode of Hard Rock Live is set to air next Spring. "
(Thanks XMIKEEX98)
"Maynard Keenan's side project, A Perfect Circle, basically serves as an outlet for material too mellow for his other band, Tool. He didn't seem entirely comfortable: "This is our lame attempt at being clever," he explained as the band did an Ozzy Osbourne-style cover of the Cure's "Love Song." "
(Thanks Christopher)
"We'd like to share very good news: Record Collector, top music magazine from UK, published a review of the Argentinian Cure tribute INTO A SEA OF CURE in their October issue ... and it's a good one! :) We could hardly believe it when we saw it, but it was true. And it feels *so* good ... Into a Sea is something that we did with passion ... a homage to our fav band. We had to learn many things in the process , as we didn't have any experience, but everything worked out well, and we are very happy with the result.
Besides this, we'd like to thank all the Cure fans who e-mailed supporting us: it's great to know that you enjoy the record as much as we do :)
Here is the transcript of the article. Re. the album, there are a few copies left, so if anybody's interested, please e-mail intoaseaofcure@interar.com.ar

<pic of the cover>
It's not the first time that there's been a tribute to the creepies from Crawley - a couple of years ago, the Cure's back catalogue was ransacked by some American goths, although Robert Smith's distinctive whine was replaced by the patented Andrew Eldritch growl, to the effect. Here, the overall success rate is much higher, as some of Argentina's top indie bands tackle what you'd normally consider to be a typical English brand of melancholia. While in the majority of covers simply take the basic tune and overlay waky vocal effects (The empty world, Killing an arab) or heavy dance beats (Lullaby, Fascination street), there are some nuggets. The funeral party dumps the thin synth sound of the original for the lightly plucked guitars and delicate female vocals of Mellonta Tauta, while the old favorite Boys don't cry, by Planeta Rica, starts as a sensitive acoustic guitar performance, until the rest of the band kick in and trash it to death. Two Spanish-language songs: A letter to Elise by Bebete el Mar and To wish impossible things by Companero Asma, also have exotic charm, but while the former is a faithful recreation, impossible things could be a Nick Cave murder ballad.
Pick of the crop is the decosntruction of the whimsical Lovecats - in place of Smith's cartoon jazz you get a faithful replica of Elvis Costello's Watching the detectives with The Cure words slitched on. Honest. With a sleeve that invokes the artwork of Saring at the sea and galore, 100 copies out of the 1000 pressed come in an attractive deckchair cloth sleeve, complete with badge and a cardboard slipcase.

Update (Oct. 13th - 2:45pm est): According to Elektra Records, the press conference has been called off.
(Thanks Katherine, Jennifer & Jana)
And WHFS (99.1) in the Washington, D.C area are also giving away tickets to the HRL taping. Listen to their Lunch at the Archives show (a flashback show) and they will read lyrics to Cure songs. If you're the correct caller they put your name in the running (actually I have conflicting info on this, I've also been told that the winner of each days contest gets a copy of "Staring at the Sea" and 2 tickets to the taping. Does anyone know for sure?). The show airs at noon Mondays through Friday.
(Thanks Valerie & Tony)
Hard Rock Live have confirmed that The Cure's set will be 60 - 90 minutes long.

Update (10/14 - 1:06 pm): It appears that the
banners have now been removed.
"They feature an article about the 80´s, where they mention The Cure as one of the european bands that reached cult status during that decade (together with The Jesus & Mary Chain, Echo & The Bunnymen and The Smiths).
Also they review the Kiss Me album as one of the best albums of the 80´s: "Depressives of all countries listen to the harmonious tunes of the gloomy Robert Smith. He looks like an exploded floor-cloth but he really got a sense for first-class songs and with the increasing lasting of his career he develops a tendency to the overkill in the tradition of Pink Floyd. "Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me" sounds as if some black-clothed sissies carry on working on "The Wall" to suffer until the end of days. Funny enough, this got style. And it´s marvellous. And it hurts really well."
(Thanks Martin)
"Je
dis aime", the new album of the french band called "M",
will be available on october 25th in France. You will find on it an excellent
cover of "Close to me" in french ! The album will be release
by Virgin France on CD, Cassette and maybe LP. If you live in France, you
can exclusively pre-listen to the album in every FNAC store one week before
the official release.

"Monday 11th about 1:30pm the Modern Rock Alternative music channel on Dish Network played "Purple Haze" Hendrix cover by the Cure.
Also, M2 showed 'Just Like Heaven' about 6pm the night before."

"We were in a restaurant called "Syzygy" in Raleigh, North Carolina when "Just One Kiss" by The Cure started playing. Needless to say, I was astounded since this song was never very popular by any stretch of the imagination. They also played other mid-80's music by Berlin, Tears For Fears, Prince, etc."

Also, 92.7 WLIR in Long Island, NY, gave away tickets on their morning show today. Don't know if it was a one day thing or not, but it might be worth your time to either call them up and ask about it, or listen to the staion tomorrow morning. If I hear any more on this, I'll post it.

The Cure To Return With Bloodflowers
"It's been three years since the Cure released their last album, 1996's "Wild Mood Swings," and the band are now preparing to return to record stores with "Bloodflowers," due in stores on February 15.
The album, rumored to be their final effort, was originally slated for a spring '99 release, but as frontman Robert Smith tells fans on the group's official Web site, "things, as ever, took longer than expected." The album, which has been in the works since the summer of 1998, was finally wrapped up in May of this year, but the band opted to hold off on releasing it until the new millennium.
It is as of yet unclear whether or not the band will tour to support the album, but they will be recording an episode of VH1's "Live At The Hard Rock" on October 19. That episode is not scheduled to air until the spring of next year.
The track listing for "Bloodflowers" is as follows:
"Out Of This World" "Watching Me Fall" "Where The Birds Always Sing" "Maybe Someday" "The Last Day Of Summer" "There Is No If" "The Loudest Sound" "39" "Bloodflowers"
-- Brian Ives "

"They did a 20 minute history of The Cure going all the way back to 1972 and talking about Robert Smith's first bands... They played Fascination Street, the bbc session version of 10:15 Saturday Night, and Close to Me. In case you're interested, band #18 was Depeche Mode and other bands that made the list lower than The Cure included Brian Eno, Skinny Puppy, and I think Smashing Pumpkins and REM... The Cure was the last band on this episode...it's to be continued on the next show."
(Thanks Josh)

"There's talk that the Cure's "Bloodflowers," due in February, could be the final album for the veteran band. Founder Robert Smith says that the album, full of long, dark songs, is the finale of a trilogy, following 1982's "Pornography" and 1989's "Disintegration"--two particularly bleak collections. The band's deals with Elektra in the U.S. and Polydor elsewhere expire soon, and Smith has reportedly made no moves to renew."
(Thanks Trent)
Had a few more items for today that will have to wait until tomorrow, because Nadine and I are getting ready to go see Elvis Costello here in N.O. Should be a fantastic show!
