"Having bought the Greatest Hits album today and having listened to CD1 once I must say there is nothing new to
me apart from the song Just Say Yes, which I think is very different, but in some ways quite excellent Cure material.
To do a duet with Saffron was my eyes a very good idea, it's something quite different.
 
Now to the Acoustic hits. I'm amazed. I think this is the best The Cure have done in a long time! If you wonder
whether it is worth buying the Greatest Hits just for the 2 new songs and/or the acoustic versions, I think it
definitely is! I have learned to play songs of The Cure for the past 5 years and have all official sheet music available,
but this is best! The songs sound excellent. You can hear all instruments really clearly and Robert's voice is great
as well. I think these are excellent versions of old and new Cure songs. This is far better than releasing another
live albumfor example. Really excellent. Get yourself a copy now!!"

"I don't like the release of an another singles collection - standing and galore is enough . this new one will be the
real "galore" . and its sad that they put on mint car instead of the 13th . the 13th is much more special and a great
song but mint car is the most stupid cure song i know.

but to put out such a long acoustic set is really great and give the album a big chance. i wish to have a vinyl copy.
for me there is a big smell of outsell, the acoustic set could stand for his own and the new songs are good (i hope
so)for singles. also the video/dvd release should be only in acoustic or other versions (12" for example - a good
sister to an b-side collection) - everybody have the normal cure videos.......

the cover-artwork from bloodflowers is very disappointing and this new one is the top of tasteless.i like the stars
very much , but (sorry robert)the photo in the front is too much .

all in all i'm curios for the acoustic songs . thanks to the cure for their great music."

"When I first heard of a Greatest Hits album I thought Robert & Co. were selling out, but after believing
Bloodflowers would be the last of The Cure I think any material from here on out is an added bonus in life.  I am
looking forward to listening to Cut Here but I think the lyrics stand out on it's own.  Robert's poetic lyrics has
proved once again why he is a step ahead of all other musicians and why he has been in this business nearly 25
years.  The Greatest Hits list is to be expected as most songs were billboard hits in their time, but Never Enough,
although great live, should not have gotten the nod over a song like Push. During the Dream Tour Song
Competition I requested an acoustic version of "Just Like Heaven", so I am very thrilled about the extra CD. A
couple of new songs on this album would have been enough but Robert pulls a rabbit out of the hat and provides
Cure fans with acoustic versions - AWESOME! A DVD release is good but I think "live" versions of the 16 hits
and videos of the two new releases would have been much better. ("Maybe Someday" a Dream Tour DVD
release?). Now if only The Greatest Hits album can get the band out on a promo tour and, as Robert would say,
"One last time before it's over". "

collection i was honestly upset, i own everything they have made. but then news came of a couple of new songs
and even better an 18 track "acoustic hits" lp featuring BORIS WILLIAMS but one thing, how available will

I know its pretty obvious that robert is allowing this to go ahead so he will be free to do exactly what he wants

"Considering all of the extras that The Cure are giving us, I think that "The Cure- Greatest Hits" is a good
thing, but there are a couple of things that I'd like to bring up.

Like someone said before, "Just Say Yes" is a Bloodflowers b-side, so why is the band referring to it as a "new"
song and saying that they just recorded it? Did they rerecord it, and if so, why?

Also, Robert says that the acoustic cd is going to have acoustic versions of all of the songs on cd 1, so does that
mean that there's an acoustic version of "Wrong Number"? That's the most electronic song that they've ever
done. How do you make an acoustic version of something like that? I'm very curious to hear what it sounds like."

"I think the "Greatest Hits" package that will be coming out is fantastic. Although I didn't like the idea at first,
as I (like so many Cure fans) collect everything that they put out.  The acoustic bonus is a great idea and I'm
ecstatic to hear the songs. I will also buy the single that's released and the album versions from different
countries to get all the songs that are out.

I just bought a DVD player and this will be also a treat to play my first (I hope not last) Cure DVD."

"There are some "Cure Days" I remember so clearly.  That morning in May 1996 when I ran down to the local
music store and was almost shaking as I bought Wild Mood Swings...the first new album in so long!  And then,
years later in February 2000...things were all so different than they were four years ago, but the feeling of buying
a new Cure album was the same.  These were days so good that I couldn't even try to describe them to others.
What shining days are Cure album release days!  And, the anticipation leading up to actually purchasing those
albums...its just almost too much.

But, none of these feelings are bubbling up for the Greatest Hits.  Is it because the promise of two new songs
isn't as tantalizing as a whole album worth?  Is it because I've already obsessed for years about the MTV
Unplugged acoustic songs and there is no room left for excitement there? Maybe its just that how songs were
presented and given to us on the Dream Tour has made me believe that The Cure reached an amazing pinniacle,
and it will take something HUGE to knock that out of its place.  I almost don't want anything to top the Dream
Tour and dissipate its memory.

So, while I have written the Greatest Hits release date in my planner, its not with the usual fanfare and
anticipation.  I will buy the album, I will do a bit of obsessing over song alterations in the acoustic versions, and
I will hint that my husband should come home with the DVD as a surprise for me some night.  But, I will reserve
a "Cure Day" for something much bigger and more important than a re-release album."

"When I heard that the new album was being delayed for a greatest hits album, I (like most Cure fans I know)
was horribly disappointed, even though I was looking forward to the new singles..  Then, I heard about the
acoustic CD, and I was a bit happier (although I thought it would only be a 6-song EP or something at that point).
Then, The Cure spilled the beans on their website, and I completely freaked out.  A full 18-song acoustic CD??!!
A DVD??!!  2 new music videos??!!

Needless to say, I'm now completely psyched about the new release, and am planning on seeking out the CD
single and going to midnight CD sales to grab my copy of the 2 CD release as soon as it's available...  I'll also
either grab the DVD myself..or maybe wait until Christmas if I can stand to :^)  I've also heard "CUt heRE",
and it's excellent.  It sort of has a Wish-era upbeat b-side vibe to it in my opinion.  I'm also interested in hearing
"Just Say Yes"..  I've heard people whining about Saffron's appearance, but I really like the old Republica CD
and am looking forward to hearing the duet...

Basically, I don't think I've been this excited about waiting for a Cure release since probably WMS..  It's also
sort of good to hear the band's poppier side re-emerge after the darker Bloodflowers era (Don't get me wrong, I
love Bloodflowers..but 2 of my favorite Cure albums are KMKMKM and Wish, and I definitely missed that more
upbeat side of the band's persona)...

Hopefully now, we'll have a new album and b-sides compilation to look forward to (without having to wait 5
years..heh)."

"I'll admit that when I first heard the new sessions turned into two songs for a greatest hits package, I was
disappointed.

However, now that the cat is out of the bag on the track listings and the acoustic version of ALL 18 songs, I am
very excited.  I had difficulty in reading thru all the rubbish to see if the acoustic CD was just 6 songs (as I saw
listed in a few places), but I seem to have found enough evidence written that it is all 18 songs.  That is very cool
and very special.

Additionally, some have complained about the track listing.  When you read the official Elektra site
(http://webobjects.elektra.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/elektra/Home.woa/wa/load?ID=277&Page=Artist),
you can see that Robert says these are the hits that are sung with a smile, the happier side of the cure.  He
hopes they can do one in the future that includes the darker hits.  I'm not holding my breath on that statement
though!  So I kind of like the theme - A Happy Greatest Hits package.

Some people may not have noticed that Boris is playing drums on the acoustic tracks.  I wonder if Jason felt a
little funny about redoing songs he wasn't a part of.  I like Jason, but Boris is an added bonus.  I'm also glad that
no Bloodflowers songs are included.  I love Bloodflowers for what it is - a cure masterpiece.  But the songs apart
from one another don't stand up well, IMHO.  Plus, this is a greatest hits, so I'm not sure where anything from
BF would have a place.

Two weeks ago I would have said I would never buy this, but this new info is making me want it now.  I will get it
the first day it is for sale in the states."

"I've had mixed feelings about the greatest hit's collection.  In one sense, I'm glad that The Cure are still
together and putting out material.  On the other hand, I feel as though this is merely a re-packaged version of
Staring at the Sea and Galore.  I'm also beginning to wonder how many "greatest hits" albums they need to put
out before they'll stop?  One would have thought that Galore was the sister album to Staring at the Sea.  But I
am glad that an acoustic CD will be included with the Greatest Hits CD, and that Boris Williams will finally be
playing percussion on it, something that I think it wondeful and much needed!  As for the DVD release, that's a
good idea, but I also feel (and think others will agree with me on this point) that it's about time they released
some material on DVD.  Now let's hope that a DreamTour DVD may be in the works down the road.  And
wouldn't it be nice to release footage from the prayer tour on DVD?  I'm more excited about the possibility
of future Cure DVD's than the present one, although it will be nice."

for in thier history of existing as musicians.  They have always avoided the pop world and produced timeless
music.  Having a Greatest Cd would fall into the PoP World schedule. So naturally I was a bit of disappointed
of this news until I realized their reasons for doing so. First they have to put out a CD to end their contract with
Electra (cut their ties) or Maybe (cut Here) so why not plug the hole withsomething easier like Greatest Hits
than giving them whole new Album.  (That why Robert The God Smith can concentrate on the maybe new album).
Then its being done The cure way which produced new songs for us fans and acoustics versions for us lucky
enough to get a hold on one of those C-D's. Over all I just want them to get their ass to Los Angeles for a
promo show and I won't need anything else for Christmas."

"I must say that I am rather disappointed in the idea of a greatest hits album.  I might have been more receptive
if "Galore" wasn't released just a few years ago.  Do you realize this album marks the SIXTH album to feature
"Close To Me"?  (The others being "Head on the Door", "Standing on a Beach", "Mixed Up", "Paris", and
"Galore").  So they give us a sixth dose of "Close to Me" and then choose to ignore everything from
"Bloodflowers", which was easily one of the best.

Last year I was so proud to be a Cure fan.  I thought "Bloodflowers" was specifically designed for us long-time
fans...Going back to the type of music they do best and avoiding "Mint Car" or "Friday I'm in Love" type
pop-songs to attract more buyers.  And definitely the Dream Tour was designed for the long-time fans!  Who
would have thought they'd play "The Kiss", "A Strange Day" or "Drowning Man" in America?  It was
wonderful!

But now I am just disappointed in the idea that we need an album of songs that can be found on three or four
other albums already.  I am encouraged by the acoustic songs.  However, a complete album of such songs, or a
B-Sides album would be something new and different.  Something I could be excited over.  Honestly, I am not
very excited about this album.

Of course, I will still buy the greatest hits album.  The Cure could release an album of nothing but Simon Gallup
belching and I'd probably buy it.  But still, I know The Cure can do better than this.  And I'm sure they will prove
it again in the future.

"Like already mentioned in some of the other comments, after some initial worries about a "Greatest Hits"
release, i especially like the idea of the limited "Acoustic Hits" CD, which makes the album absolutely worth
buying for me - and also the final release of a DVD is something i look very forward to.
However, there is just one question i'd really like to have an answer to, not sure if anybody knows it (yet) -
obviously, "Just Say Yes" (or at least a version of it) has already been recorded during the Bloodflowers sessions.
It would be interesting to know if the version released on "Greatest Hits" is a re-recorded version of that song -
and if so, it would be interesting to know if the "first version" from 1999 also was a duet or not, and if it will ever
be released - maybe on the "B-sides collection"?"

"i agree completly wtih charlie todd...well in most cases.
i mean i keep jumping up and down when i hear that the cure are still busy...but the cure is my favourite band and
nothing compares, so when something like this happens, ofcourse i'm etremely happy...no matter what.
but like charlie todd said, why wrong number? the video completly sucked...it's not like it received very much air
time here in chicago anyway, what makes them think that the rest of the world played it so very much? so it was
on a sinlges album...that's just cause it was a new song. look at charlotte sometimes(which is a awesome song),
other than live albums, it is on staring at the sea, which is a singles album, but that is all that wrong number got,
and should get. the song was aweful in my opinion, but that doesn't make me stop listening to it, which is why they
probably put it on...but i am not robert smith or anyone else in the cure, so i do not know.

and again, the whole no songs from bloodflowers thing, that is a very wrong thing to do on their part. unless they
come out in another 10 years with another singles album, they should have put maybe someday and/or out of this
world (which i must say is a great song to play on the guitar.) my friend marc, who loves maybe someday isn't
even interested in buying the greatest hits cd because it is not in the listing. (i guess i'll just have to buy it for
him...sigh)

and i agree with the different listing for different countries. i'm still trying to track down a copy of the japan
released bloodflowers so i can have that extra song, and ofcourse since it is an import i am going to have to spend
at least $10 more for just one song. it is one fucking song! that makes me horribly upset. but hey, they said,
"dont ask us" so i'm just going to bitch and moan until someone throws stones at me. and what is up with the
title? the cure's greatest hits? i mean if you look at what the little teeny bopper boy band people are doing, they
arnt even calling it a greatest hits album.. and look at what the smashing pumpkins are doing with thiers, "judas
o'reilly.." i mean they are being creative..so robert smith lost his creativity when he turned 40? sure seems like
it. (and i agree with the whole dvd thing...but before i make robert smith reeely mad at me, i'll shut up about that)

robert smith, in my opinion is somewhat like a god. a god of music and art. he writes beautifully and his voice is
captures you and wont let you go...which is how i got hooked millions of thousands of years ago (sure seems like
it) so every day i go up to my boss, (who also loves the cure) and tell his all the news with a huge smile on my face.
robert smith has done it again and captured my heart and my mind. i am weak.

i too will spend a million dollars to buy the vhs, the dvd, and both versions of the cd...and maybe even the tape
(anyone know why staring at the sea's tape is completly different than the cd?)

idea of the new tracks.. and of course the 'unplugged' album goes a little way to justifying why I love The Cure,

yes I am looking forward to the single and the album.. in fact I'm counting the days...

and why not relaease a greatest hits collection? What a great way to end the Fiction contract.. and I mean they
probably would've released some half-hearted effort without the groups blessing, anyway (?)

Apart from the new tracks (obviously) I am most looking forward to listening to the acoustic versions of songs
like Wrong Number that are going to sound so much different unplugged!! Wow.

On the DVD thing, I have been looking for an excuse to buy a player. or at least a drive for my computer.
There's going to be so much on the DVD that isn't going to be there on the VHS... but i may get the VHS to tide
me over until I can afford something to play the DVD on.

The one dissapointing thing about the hits is the fact that the slightly more dark, more epic (?) songs aren't
there.... ie, Hanging Garden, Charlotte Sometimes.... but I read on the Elektra site that Robert hopes to release
a 'follow-up' with those sort of songs on there... maybe this can be part of the B-sides collection.. a sort of double
disc set. That would be cool.

Now all I can do is wait until october 29th for the single to be released... I will be down to the record shop, £2.69
in my trembling hands.......

"For me the Greatest Hits idea is a bad one, at least for the fans. I'm sure it had a lot to do with the band's
contractual obligations. I have never liked any type of band's retrospectives,  I didn't buy Standing on the Beach
or Galore because I already have everything on them, except the awful Wrong Number and Never Enough,
thankfully. The acoustic set is the only reason why I will buy the 2 cd pack. Personaly I would have preferred
something else as a bonus, but well the acoustics will do (most of them we already know from the MTV
unplugged). As for the track listing I agree that it is incomplete and uneven, but all of them are great songs
except for the aforementioned two. Anyway as somebody else said, I look forward for the new release, a
possible tour and the long promised b-sides and Dream tour collections. For the dvd-vhs I don't care much, most
of their videos are pretty bad,  the only Cure's videos I like to watch are their live performances, which are
awesome. All in all I hope that the album does great and it helps as motivation for the band to move faster on
the "new" stuff."

seemed pointless since we had Stanging On A Beach and Galore.... but I do think that so far the Cure have done it
with dignity... I  think the idea of a acoustic cd to go along with it is a great idea... and I really feel they chose the
songs that were truely universal hits for all countries and not just Europe... so all in all i think the greatest hits has
became a good idea afterall... and on the bright side, at least we are not waiting three to four years for some cure

or not ; i'd like to know 'cos everyone doesn't have a DVD, so...).

To me, it seems to be something new 'cos of the bonus CD and the duet with Saffron (I've never heard Republica,
but I'm running to a FNAC store to check if it's interesting or not !).

In fact I'll buy the English release with The Caterpillar and Pictures Of You and the video.

I hope the solo project, the complete Bloodflowers Tour Pack and the 'real' new album are still in Robert's mind."

"All in all, i'm very excited about the Cure 'Greatest Hits' releases (and very hopeful that a mini-tour will
accompany all this).  But, I certainly do have some gripes with the track listing.  Why in the hell is 'Wrong
Number' a greatest hit?  The song, in my opinion, is mediocre at best and had zero commercial success and zero
success with Cure fans.  And why are there no songs from Bloodflowers?  Most of us Cure fans agree that
Bloodflowers has been one of their best releases.  Why not put 'Maybe Someday' on?  I know it didn't do well by
commercial standards, but it sure as hell go played more than 'Wrong Number'!  I also think 'Never Enough' has
no place on the album, mostly because it is the only song in the entire Cure catalog that I can say I DON'T LIKE.
Furthermore, it was a one-off single that was part of a remix package that didn't do that well.

I'm also sick of this crap of having different releases in different countries.  Doesn't the industry understand that
the reason we were using Napster in the first place was so we could have that ONE song on the Japanese version
of whatever album without having to pay $30 for it?  Personally, I wish the US release contained 'Pictures of You'
and 'Caterpillar' instead of 'The Walk' (a song that has been entirely overplayed by the Cure and I'm completely
sick of).  I have a gripe about the DVD as well.  Why not include ALL of the Cure videos?  A DVD can store a
HUGE amount of information.  There is NO reason to not put every single Cure video on it.  If they are trying to
sell this as a 'definitive' release, then it should have EVERYTHING.  I really like the videos for 'Catch' and
'Pictures of You' (among others) and it's a damn shame they're not included.
