Dec. 13th-Sheffield,England (Sheffield Arena)

Review by Tim

Just thought I'd say a few words about yesterday's concert. This
was my first Swing Tour show that I saw, so I'll leave it up to
someone else to be objective about it. The setlist was pretty
standard, very similar to Wembley except they played Numb, Like
Cockatoos, Lovesong, Let's go to bed, Subway Song, and Play for today
and didn't play Strange Attraction, The Blood, Charlotte Sometimes,
This is a Lie and If only tonight...
I thouroughly enjoyed the concert especially since we had such
luck: we managed to be the first people into the arena, so we got
right up front in the centre (where there happened to be a lot of
Descenters, hello to all of you), then after the gig we managed to
get hold of a setlist and a very battered drumstick, so that was
brilliant. It was really empty and it seemed like most people at the
front were foreign. Still the atmosphere at the front was quite good
and the band seemed to be in a fairly good mood too. The funniest bit
of the concert was during Inbetween Days when the Germans next to me
chucked a bunch of colored socks onto the stage, which Roger picked up
and later threw at roadies and the crowd.
What I was most impressed with during the night was the guitar
playing. Both Robert and Teddy played loads of ad lib guitaring which
enlivened songs like Fascination Street (Robert played a funky
beginning), Never Enough, and Disintegration (Roberts guitar was
really loud with lots of distortion).
My faves for the night must be Plainsong, Want, Return,
Fascination St., Like Cockatoos, and all of the encores (especially
Lovesong and Play for today.). Subway song fitted really well, but
Robert kept messing up on guitar.
Well today is Manchester, so I'll write more then when
everything is in perspective.
