A dutch fan just got home from a short trip to Sicily. Went there to see the Cure. Decided to go after i seen them on Lokeren Festival. Went to Sicily without tickets. Every Italian i spoke there said i was crazy because they say it's impossible to get any tickets. The Cure were sold out within 2 days. Anyway, i tried. Tickets were sold for the price of 300 euro. I really wanted to see them, but i don't wanted to pay that much. I guess it was my lucky day, some Italian girl and boy soldme their ticket for 50 euro [if you reading this, thank you again]. I needed another ticket for my girlfried. Finally bought one for too much money, but it was worth the money. It was a great gig, great encores. Faith was awesome. 10:15 and kissing an arab rocket the theater. The crowd was very noisy, all in a good mood. Us or them is the song which i like more and more. The figurehead was really strong. The sound in the theater was very clear. I didn't miss the keyboards at all. I was lucky i could be there, next will be Berlin :)

Puntuali i Cure entrano in scena.

Già qui, oltre a questi pezzi che non dovevano assolutamente mancare, c’erano stati episodi notevoli, come l’assolo strepitoso di Porl in The blood, le ottimamente riarrangiate Never enough e A night like this, sempre coinvolgente, così come la travolgente Push. Uno show intensissimo e senza pause, alla Ramones.

Il pensiero è subito andato a mia nonna malata, with nothing left but faith…

I am a fortunate person who saw the taormina concert.
After three days i am still there crying for the emotions. I follow the cure music when i was 13 years old (my age now is 31)and when i knew that cure came in taormina (i'm from catania) my dream came true.
I was amazed by the location creating a fascinating atmospehere sometimes dark, sometimes very intimate,  by the fans with the same robert's make up. We were very hearty and robert has surely felt this. I found the setlist perfect, played by cure in heavy rock style making pale many young bands
circulating at moment in business music. And Robert's voice, i won't forget it, rich, shape and strong and i found that it was more pleasure than disc
(listen to his live version of if only tonight we could sleep or shiver and shake).
there is one image of robert that is in my mind for more days: after the 3rd encore he was going away and behind the stage he stopped and astonished
looked the atmospehere (the greek theatre with psichedelic light was very gloomy and fan screaming) and he put his hands over his heart assuming a
sweet look as if him breathed too emotions,in fact a staff member (a woman) went towards robert and embraced him. at this point my heart beat so quickly and i don't realize that tears came down from my eyes.
Robert also gave us a great gift a new version of faith same music but with a new verse never listened before.
i am sure that night will be unforgettable for us but for cure too. Love You, you are my Cure!!!
Take me in your arms and hold me up so high just one more time......tonight

When I heard the first shows of the current summer tour I was very disappointed but I decided to go to Taormina because I knew the beauty of that place. Fortunately the show was great, not my favourite but one of the best Cure live performance ever. The whole atmosphere was unbelievable: crazy crowd singing all the time, the Cure, the Theatre's ruins and the sea behind... pure magic! (that's why I love my country so much :-) The setlist was fantastic, A Letter To Elise made many people cry and Jason rocked the whole Sicily during Us or Them! Simply great! The songs from The Cure sounded very powerful, it's a pity that they didn't do a tour for that album. It was nice to hear the intro of A Forest again; Never Enough was one of my favourite together with Boys Don't Cry; the encores really seem to last forever.
About KAA, Robert said Loving An Arab and then Kissing An Arab. There were some songs like Lullaby or If Only Tonight that I didn't like very much and with my big disappointment no songs from the WMS and Bloodflowers albums even if I can't imagine any of those without keyboards. Anyway we all really had fun last night, the show was great but I still think that Rob, Sim, Perry, Rog and Jay was the best line-up The Cure have ever had. Finally a big thank to Luca and to all my friends from Roma, Reggio Calabria and Varese. I also thank Robert Smith for his kindness everytime I met him.

- Roberta from Rome

Awesome, amazing, astounding performance. Well it was really worth the fatigue of an endless journey to get back from Taormina to Milano ("a
journey by train" lasting 15 hours), after one hour sleep on an absolutely uncomfortable iron bench (Taormina is definitely NOT suitable for camping!!!). But we were not the only ones who did this for the love af a band that is still able to repay for every sacrifice their faithful fans can suffer. It was definitely a magical gig, and I feel I've been part of a concert the band itself is going to remember for a long time.
Definitely the best Cure concert I've seen, together with Conegliano 2002. Taormina and Conegliano, opposites settings (Taormina had outstanding location, wonderful weather, amazing sounds, where in Conegliano we were drowning in the rain in the middle of nowhere and they were forced to play without sound effects and with amps covered by tarpaulin), but the same feeling - Robert and the band playing for a totally responding crowd, enjoying themselves at the most and willing to give it all to the audience.
This is what I felt, together with another 4,500 fortunate persons. Even those who didn't know much about the Cure, I bet they were completely
hypnotized by the fascination of this event.

Anyway, I must confess I didn't have great expectations before the concert, I had read all the reviews from the previous gigs and listened to the mp3s and I thought the concert would be pretty disappointing- as a keyboardist myself, I was not happy with the new lineup, too- until saturday night. The band sounded incredibily sharp and strong, no imperfections, no uncertainties, pure mastery. Robert's voice was powerful and clear. And he occasionally murmured his enthusiasm for playing in such a wonderful place (but he couldn't say anything in Italian, as he said "Speaking Italian is some Greek Tragedy for me").

There's little to be said about the setlist- it speaks for itself, and all the other reviews say it all. The only songs that were a little disappointing (imho) were the ones from the last album, though the change of arrangement in TEOTW gave new life and colours to a quite boring song, and Us Or Them found Robert not able to sing all the chorus... I would have preferred them playing The Promise, or Lost, but they decided for the easiest ones...

All the other songs were pure masterpieces.
Never Enough the most powerful version ever; Shake Dog Shake and Shiver And Shake were played with uncomparable intensity; If Only Tonight We Could Sleep was a magic spell in a magical place; Faith was so moving and breathtaking... and then came the mythical ending. I could not believe my ears- Three Imaginary Boys, sung so loud by all the crowd...then, whats this.. no, it couldn't be... Grinding Halt!!! then we all knew they would finish with a great 10:15.
But then came the unexpected, and the crowd really went nuts. "KiSSing An Arab" (though I think once he sung also "Living An Arab") was even
MORE that we could ask for.

So thank you Robert, Simon, Jason, and most of all thanks to Porl- we met him in the afternoon while he was strolling around down Taormina ancient streets and had a little chat with him. We took a picture with him then realized the camera was not working, so we chased him back to take another one, and he was so kind, standing a couple of minutes in the sun of Sicily (incredibly hot!) waiting for us to get the camera working. He's such a kind person, a pure gentleman... and a wonderful guitarist, too! :-)

I am Lorenzo Contucci from Roma and I attended the Taormina show yesterday. I was in doubt to go, because the day before I were on vacation in
Austria but I decided to go and I was right.
I have seen about 23-25 Cure gigs and this one is - without any doubt - in the first three positions.
First of all: fantastic scenary. The Teatro Greco is wonderful and you can have a great view on the sea...

They did a soundcheck at 5 p.m. where they played just few notes of The Blood, Push, From the edge of the deep green sea. These songs were just
done with an instrument but I recognized them quite soon. After these, they did The Hanging Garden (all the song repetaed three times), Cold
and The Figurehead.

The Cure hit the stage at 9.20 pm. The Theatre was sold out and the balcony was a standing area while just in front of the stage there were terrible numerated plastic seats (at Teatro Greco every night there's a theatre performance) that were respected till Just Like Heaven, then the security had to admit their failure in manteining an absurd order for a rock concert.
Half of the people were "radical" fans from all over Italy, many of them spent a cople of days in this beautiful place, the others were curious who attended the show just knowing the hits.
The track listing has been great, expecially in the enchores. Many old songs in the first part of the gig and I was amazed in seeing the Cure in the line up that I prefer (I always liked when they were 3 on stage, even if Porl is OK). A great "The Figurehead" made Robert change the original line "I can lose myself in chinese art and american girls" into "sicilian girls", also "The Baby Screams" has been a nice surprise like "The Blood", the always great "Shake dog shake" and the unvalueless "One hundred Years". When everybody thought it was over on the last notes of "Faith", the gig started again and again with 3 imaginary boys, a surprisingly Grinding Halt sung by all the theatre as well 10:15 Saturday night and - yes! - Killing an Arab!!!! They couldn't make more, believe me. Hello to all my old collecting-friends.

- Lorenzo Contucci

Set in the ruins of a Greek Theatre in Taormina, this was my first concert of the new Cure.

Open was not strong, but Fascination Street became amazing early on, then we went through Strange Day and alt.end and by this time I was beginning to feel that intense emotion when I listen to the Cure alone at home.
The Blood was fast and intoxicating, it really felt like drinking wine and getting drunk and by then I could feel the enjoyment. The End of the World didn't really have an effect, but then Shake Dog Shake set the whole crowd on fire.
This was really strange for me, because in most of the concerts I have been to, the response of the crowd is subdued, but here the whole audience really screamed. Then feeling continued until Push exploded. I understood that the crowd was waiting to go wild with their favourites, but there was love for the other songs.
Just like Heaven was wonderful; I didn't even notice the lack of keyboards. But the audience went crazy for Letter to Elise, which was never one of my favourites. Lullaby had Robert dancing, but it was Never Enough and From the Edge of the Deep Green Sea that again created a Greek Theatre full of jumping Cure Fans.
It was strange to be out of sync with the majority of people in places, but the energy they were expressing was really contagious and I became excited with every song because people around me could just go wild. Signal to Noise was really strong on stage, but again the crowd was waiting. Baby Screams was like a bomb. People were smiling and swooning. Then One Hundred years made everyone sit down and stare. Shiver and Shake was the best Robert had been at that point in the concert. And then End appeared, the song itself not really fitting in with the emotions of the concert, and it quietly closed the main part of the concert. But the End was not the end.

The first encore, which was expected, started slowly with At Night and M.  Hearing these two was like staring at the full moon that was shining
down on us. The Play for Today shot out and the crowd were jumping and singing along like children being told their favourite story.  People's faces were really happy. Then A Forest brought the first encore to a close and really, here the Concert could have ended.  It was full of strength and deep emotions.  But we knew there would be one more encore.

While we waited between encores, we examined the setting.  The special effects of the show was mainly smoke machines and the lights that shone
on them, but what really gave a lot of atmosphere was the lights shining on the Greek Theatre's ruins. And then the second encore began with the perfect song for this, If only tonight we could sleep.

Every word of the song was painting a visual picture that echoed with the Theatre. It was a powerful and beautiful experiance. Which the Kiss slashed open and let all the guts spill out.  Simon was ripping into his Bass for the beginning of the song.  Halfway through Robert started duelling with Simon and then Robert ended with the solo with such a face. It was like an evil laugh. I am sure that the next album will be full of that kind of intese guitar
sound.

We were ready for that to be the end, but we really wanted more.  The Cure came back with the perfect Pop trio that the whole audience responded too and the thrid encore was over.

The fourth encore was really strange.  Robert said something to the effect that they could play till 6am, because they are not bothering anyone.  I think he also said "I am taking requests so talk to me", but I wasn't sure.
Faith was the strongest song of the night.  I have never heard it that sad and aching. I forgot all about the setting and could only see the band on the stage.

I really thought that was the end because with such a song it couldn't be bettered. But then Three Imaginary Boys started under the full moon in Taormina and began the best part of the concert.
Four songs from the first year of the Cure played with such abandon. The Stranger was loving an Arab, kissing an Arab.  Guitars were speeding
along and then, with the crowd going crazy it was over.

This was the best Cure concert I have been to. The sound was incredibly clear and sharp.

The next day, as I was waiting for the bus to the beach, Simon's face passed right by me.  It was the Cure tour bus quietly making its way out
of Tamoria.

We’ve been to a few concerts, though not too many, in different settings. Among them Swing tour in Berlin, Brussels promo show (Bloodflowers) and a
Curiosa show close to Washington DC. Taormina show is easily the best we have been to so far. Not only did it have the magic setting in an ancient
Greek-Roman theater under the open sky, the 3 hour duration with a great set list and an amazing warm audience (I would really recommend to visit
Italian shows – Cure fans here so easily catch on fire), not only did it have all that, but the group (and I do not give a * that there where no keyboards)
sounded the best I ever heard. This is the first time I regretted I did not have recording equipment.
The show in Taormina was well the worth of all the expenses: a trip from Ukraine where we live, and a short but very enjoyable vacation in Sicily we
decided to allow ourselves because of the show. I actually hope the Cure members also had a chance to have a rest here – Sicily is magically
beautiful!
Oh, and for the first time we decided to try and wait for the group members to leave the premises of the show – we thought there was only one way out. Obviously there was another, since they never came out, but while waiting we had great time talking to Italian fans. Including the fortunate Francesco, who got the beer bottle of Smith himself, and there was still beer there! It felt both silly and wonderful to just wait knowing you most probably won’t get to see Smith and others. We did get to see them though! Next morning we were waiting for the bus that takes us to the beach – it is
pretty much the only road out of Taormina, and a small bus with the band passed us! We both saw Simon very vividly looking out of the window –
thinking and not too happy it seemed. This was so unexpected – no time for photos, but we did feel rewarded for the previous night.

Imagine everything you wish for a Cure concert to be.
Well, yesterday Taormina gave me even more than that. It was the real Cure dream.

I saw 11 Cure concert all around Europe, but no concert compares with Taormina.

I am not even able to write a proper review at this moment, because of the adrenaline still flowing in my blood. I will try...

The band was in the best shape I have ever seen. Yesterday it was magic in its purest form.
The crowd was so excited by the performance, and the band got totally excited by the responce of the crowd. It was a mutual excitement !!!

Oh, yes, and I loved the Roger and Perry line up, I really did, but I must say that I have never seen so much energy and magic from the band as with
this line up. And about the songs arrenged without keyboards, well, that took each song to a new, refreshing and powerful sound, that should only be
appriciated.

Robert was delirious... He out so much of himself in each song. Porl and Simon were great, and so was Jason.

During Push the crowd got crazy... It seemed to be in Cure in Orange. I can t explain...The Blood also warmed up the crowd. A Letter to Elise was fantastic. Never Enough so powerful...The Figurhead so unexpeted at that point of the setlist. I was seat near the lightining sontrols and had the opportunity to sneak an eye on the setlist and I was delirious when I saw the encores.

But originally, Friday I m in Love was to be played during the main setlist. Signal to Noise was soooo beautiful. We always complain about b-sides not
being played, well, there you go... The Baby Screams has been so high and beautiful and magic...

I do love most heavy and dark songs at Cure concert, but didn t mind all the singles, yesterday night, I couldn't, with that performance, and we got our share of heavy stuff anyway.

First encore was the usual of this tour, with the 17 seconds songs in a nice crescendo that got the crowd to be delirious. When Robert got on stage he
said: "You going to hear all the songs you are expecting, so I wouldn t worry".

As for the second encore, I knew they were going to play If only tonight we could sleep and The Kiss, because of the sneaking at the playlist, and I
felt like I was living the Trilogy DVD... Tears came up in my eyes during Thh Kiss, which is the most powerful experience in sound format you could
possibly live.

Normally I saw High in the third encore setlist, but wasn t played. And they were supposed to go on with Let s go to bed and Why can t I be You.
Then another encore was to be played, with Plainsong and Disintegration, and then The Drowning Man, Faith and finish with Boys Don t Cry.

BUT: The power of The Kiss opened up even the sky, and a few raindrops fell, and the next encore was kind of delayed, I guess, with the organiyation
panicing a little bit, also because the stage was no covered. From there, I guess a lot of things were improvised.

Plainsong and Disintegration were not played, with my big disapointment. I really was looking to hear Plainsong arranged with guitar, like in St. Malo,
which sounded soooo beautiful, dispite the bitching reviews saying it shouldn t be played without keybords (evolution, friends, did you ever learn
this word...?).

Anyway, they palyed the third encore with the HITS: Inbetween Days, Friday I'm In Love, Boys Don't Cry. At this point I paniced it was all over,
because Boys don t cry was origuinally intended to close down the concert...

BUT: they came back and played the AMAZING Faith, with Robert singing extra lyrics. Again, I thought it was over, because the band was leaving, but at half way on his going backstage, Robert stopped and turned back to watch the exitement of the crowd and decided to go on. Porl had already left, and the rest of the band got to talk, like in deciding what to do next. Porl came back and they were ready to spread some magic on us...

Three Imaginary Boys, Grinding Halt, 10:15 Saturday Night: again, the crowd got crazy. The security weren t able to keep everybody seat in their chair, in front of the stage (remember, this was a theater, everybody were supposed to be seat, but it s THE CURE we re talking about...).

At this point, because 10:15 lately and since long time doesn t call for Killing an Arab anymore, I one more time thought it was the end of it.

BUT: I have heard the introducing notes of Killing an Arab, I and almost fell flat on the floor...Yes, it s back, and to make it up with the issues that took this song away from our lifes, Robert find the most magic way of giving to it a new life, singing KISSING AN ARAB, so I guess it s not Killing an Arab they played, but a brand new song, yes, Kissing an Arab... :-)

What can I possibly add after this manifestation of Robert s brilliance? There is only one ugly thing about this concert. It didn t go on and on
forerever for my whole lifetime...

- Gianfranco

Per me è l'undicesima volta che "THE DREAMS COME TRUE" .
Ah dimenticavo che li ho "scortati in aereoporto"!!!!!!!!
