Review by Joel C. Marckx
Well I just got back from tonight's show...my ears are still ringing, and my
memory is still fresh. They did a lot of different stuff than last night,
in fact before "This Is A Lie" Robert said, "Did anyone here go last night
too?" (meager response). "Well I'm glad some of you did. We're going to do
quite a few different songs, for your sake as well as my own."
Robert did a lot of talking tonight, but it almost seemed like he was in a
bad mood. Something happened with Roger during Mint Car, and Robert changed
the words all around talking about how he hated Roger for doing something,
and how he wished him "Grizzly Bears & Vampire Bats?!?" I don't know. Any
way here it is.
Want - still light outside for the first few songs
Club America - I'm really starting to like this song a lot more!!
Fascination Street - Fast & Ferocious
Lullaby - I used to hate this song and now I can't remember why?!?
Piggy In The Mirror - knowing that they have played this a few times on this
tour, I would have died if they didn't
play it tonight!
This Is A Lie - beautiful
Charlotte Sometimes - before this Robert said, "This song goes back to...Oh,
I can't remember anymore"
Just Like Heaven - cheesy pop single that I'll never get tired of!
Jupiter Crash - Robert said something to the effect of..."This was written
on almost this exact night"
Strange Day - totally different, and totally intense!!
Strange Attraction - " and now, something else that's strange"
Mint Car - Robert said "and now Roger gets to play his favorite instrument"
(the tamborine). And during the song he walked up to Robert
and did something that led to Robert changing the lyrics.
Lovesong - "This next one is going to tear up my head...but for three
minutes, that's okay I guess.
Inbetween Days- " another single"
Primary - "This is a single as well, but a totally different kind"
Like Cockatoos - " This is one we don't play much, but when we do I can
remember why I like to do it"
Return - I love Roger's keyboards!!!
Treasure - Another beautiful rendition
Prayers for Rain - 28 seconds!!!!
Trap - everybody left to go get a beer...I don't understand why they pick
the really good songs to do that instead of the pop singles
they've heard a million times?!?
A Hundred Years - "This one goes back to Pornography...and I don't think
we've done this one on this tour yet"
...Deep Green Sea - another intense version of one of my all-time favorite
songs!!!
Bare - Beautiful!!!!
1st encore:
He came out shouting (???)..."THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!! THIS IS ANOTHER ONE
FROM WILD MOOD SWINGS, EXCEPT WE DON'T PLAY IT MUCH...LET'S HOPE YOU DON'T
FIND OUT WHY!!!
Gone - not my favorite, but it was cool to hear.
Friday I'm In Love - CERTAINLY NOT my favorite, but it could have been
worse, like...
Let's Go To Bed - Well, I knew they would play eventually.
Why Can't I Be You - with Young At Heart & Lovecats
2nd encore:
He came out saying..."We were just backstage trying to figure out what to
play. The first half's for you...no, it's all for you, but we'll start with
some stuff we don't need to play anymore"
3 Imaginary Boys - great to hear!!
Play For Today - better than Paris!!
Boys Don't Cry - How can they still play that song????
A Forest - as they were playing the quiet part they broke into...(hold on to
your hats, folks!!!)
FOREVER!!!!! - about 4 or 5 minutes long with singing and the speeding up
part. Coming to a crashing halt with Robert singing the last two lines
acapella ...'kew!!
The stage was different, without the rollercoaster and some of the lights,
the whole mood was different too. Must be because it was outdoors, I don't
know.
But I do know that these were two of the greatest shows of my life!! I
honestly must say that this new band is so much better than the Wish tour
band. More energy and passion. IMHO!!
I know Robert's threatening to quit again after this tour, but I hope it's
another false alarm because I would really love to see them again. And I
hope it doesn't take another 4 years!!!
