 Known Limitations, Problems, and Notices

• Pure IPV6 networks (no IPV4 configurations within the network) do not allow Ethernet detection (look in the advance tab under "Disable Upon Wired Connect").
• Installshield has a variety of command line options. Each of the options below are not case sensitive, and may be used with a "-" or "/". Separate multiple command line switches with a space, but do not put a space inside a command line switch (for example, /r /f1Install.iss is valid, but not /r/f1 Install.iss). When using long path and filename expressions with switches, enclose the expressions in double quotation marks. The enclosing double quotes tell the operating system that spaces within the quotation marks are not to be treated as command line delimiters
  
  -app
  Install the tray only, and not the driver
  
  -on
  Turns Wireless Zero Config off and configures the Broadcom Tray Utility to manage the network
  
  -wlconfig:[file to import]
  Import preferred network profiles at the end of installation
  
  -f1[path\ResponseFile]
  Specifies an alternate location and name of the response file (.iss file). If this option is used when running InstallShield Silent, the response file is read from the folder/file specified by [path\ResponseFile]. If this option is used along with the -r option, the response file is written to the folder/file specified by[path\ResponseFile]
  
  -f2[path\LogFile]
  Specifies an alternate location and name of the log file created by InstallShield Silent. By default, Setup.log log file is created and stored in the same directory as that of Setup.inx.
  
  -l[language ID]
  Specifies the language in which the setup runs. [language ID] is a numeric language ID of the form 0xnnnn or simply nnnn. The setup runs in this language regardless of the default setup language specified in the IDE or the default language of the target system. This switch has no effect when the setup is running silently and a Lang key is set in the [Application] section of Setup.iss. Recording a response file (by running Setup.exe with the -r switch) sets the Lang key automatically; for the -l switch to affect a silent setup, this key must be deleted from Setup.iss
  
  -m[filename]
  Causes Setup.exe to generate a Management Information Format (.mif) file automatically at the end of the setup. Do not include a path or an extension. The .mif file is always placed in the temp folder. [filename] is optional. If you do not specify a filename, the resulting file will be called Status.mif
  
  -m1[serial number]
  Tells setup to place the indicated serial number in the .mif file that is generated by the -m switch
  
  -m2[locale string]
  Tells setup to place the indicated locale in the .mif file that is generated by the -m switch. English (ENU) is the default; refer to Microsoft documentation for a complete listing of locale strings
  
  -r
  Causes Setup.exe automatically to generate a silent setup file (.iss file), which is a record of the setup input, in the Windows folder
  
  -s
  Runs InstallShield Silent to execute a silent setup
  
  -verbose
  Provides more detailed information when a Setup.exe error occurs
  
  -infdir:
  Specifies a subdirectory to find inf files.
  
  
• Windows 9x (Windows 95, Windows SE, Windows ME) is no longer supported.
• To satisfy HCT 12 WHQL, the default for our IBSS link behavior is changed. Now the driver only indicates "link up" on an IBSS if there is at least one other IBSS member. The corresponding TrayApp versions are intended to account for the change, as do Windows/XP SP1 and SP2. NOTE: EARLIER VERSIONS OF THE UI, AND XP "GOLD" WILL WORK DIFFERENTLY with the new driver. There will be a few beacons from the created IBSS, but after a few seconds w/o a link up indication the management application will teardown the IBSS and move to the next preferred network in the list (PN). The IBSS won't be tried again until the next cycle through the PN list.
• GINA validated wireless networks that use certificates must use the machine store and not a user store as the user has not logged in yet
• With certificate based networks, it is an invalid configuration to have a certificate chain that crosses user and machine cert store boundaries
• When a user exports a series of preferred networks, and an EAP type is selected that requires a certificate, it is not possible to export where in the machine to get the certificate, as each machine stores certificates in a unique location (it is a hash function).
• When running Afterburner enabled subsystems, the TCP/IP setting within Windows must be enlarged to gain the full effects of the throughput opportunity.
• For 802.11a + WPA WIFI testing, a Synad AP is required. This access point is not obtainable, nor has it been for nearly a year. Thus we run our internal tests with a different access point. No issue has ever come about due to the Synad AP in the past.
• This release supports customizable help files. If you want to modify the English help file shipped with the release you can edit the HTML files (convert the .chm file with the Microsoft help compiler - hhc.exe) and then compile a new chm file. At that point, simply drop bcmwlhlp.chm into the release directory on top of the one that we shipped to you and it will be installed automatically along with the rest of the driver files. If you wish to remove the help file from the release, simply delete the .chm file and InstallShield will automatically sense that.
• Customer shall (i) obtain all government approvals and registrations for Customer's use of the software and (ii) comply with all applicable laws, rules, and regulations in connection therewith (including, without limitation, regulatory requirements under Title 47 CFR Part 15, Industry Canada RSS-210, European Directive 1999/5/EC, and regulations related to RF exposure). Customer understands and acknowledges that the software is subject to all pertinent import and export laws of the United States.
• This product includes software developed by MDC and its licensors. This product includes software developed by the OpenSSL Project for use in the OpenSSL Toolkit (http://www.openssl.org/). This product includes cryptographic software written by Eric Young (eay@cryptsoft.com). This product includes software written by Tim Hudson (tjh@cryptsoft.com).
• Integrated supplicants (we manage the network) have not been tested when configured as TTLS:MD5 as well as TTLS:CHAP. We are unable to locate backend servers that support this at release time.
• In previous releases, for OEM evaluation, it was possible to set the locale to "ALL". If the driver is configured for "ALL" on a dualband system, and WZC is managing the network, you must use a preferred network configuration to execute the same evaluation.
• To enable Soft-AP as a feature, you must modify your .inf file. Simply add the following text to your .inf file within [common.reg]:
  HKR, ,"EnableSoftAP", 0, "1".
  
  • Soft-AP is only available for Windows XP
  • When Soft-AP function is enabled, the Wireless Networks, Link Status, Site Monitor and Diagnostics will all be disabled.
  • Users must turn-off Windows XP "Zero configuration" (WZC) and therefore scanning.
  Once Soft-AP is up and running a new control panel tab will appear.
  • To make the feature useful, you will want to bridge the wireless driver with an Ethernet driver under Windows XP so that all wireless packets make their way to an Ethernet network where there is presumably access to the Internet. Look in Network Connections, right click the wireless device and select Bridge Connections.
  • Check "Enable AP" in the "AP Config" tab, and uncheck the "Use Windows to Configure My Wireless Network Settings" in the "Wireless Networks" tab.
  • Configure your new *SoftAP* via this window and you are set to go.
  • To disable Soft-AP, uncheck the “Enable AP” checkbox and also re-enable Windows Zero Configuration to bring the device to the normal client mode.
• The Soft-AP feature does NOT support Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA). It does support WEP.
• When disabling the Soft-AP feature, and you are running Microsoft WPA supplicants (Windows XP), you will need to wait for ~30 seconds after disabling SoftAP for the system to be configurable again.
• CCX support cannot run properly in a multi-adapter configuration
• In Chinese and Japanese versions of Windows, installing an unsigned driver will result in bcmwl5.sys to not getting updated. This is not an issue as long as the driver is signed.
• Broadcom Reference software includes a loose binding in the .inf file. It will bind to any adapter with the Broadcom vendor and device id. If you do not remove it, or further qualify it with a sub-vendor and sub-device ID, that driver will load on any vendor's hardware.
• Users should be made aware of how to properly use InstallShield. For optimal ease of installation
  • Run the InstallShield executable setup.exe
  • After InstallShield finishes, shut down the system
  • Install the 802.11 network interface card
  • Turn on system
  • Prior to getting WHQL approved .cat files you will want to be aware of the following steps during system bootup:
  • For WinXP:
    • Make use of all defaults in the New Hardware Wizard (select next and yes).
  • For Win2K:
    • Select next twice
    • Ensure that all check boxes are unchecked
    • Select next twice
    • At the digital signature warning screen hit next
    • Select finish
• To cleanly uninstall, users should be made aware of the application layer uninstall as opposed to uninstalling a device in the driver configuration tab (Properties:Configure:Driver:Uninstall). Users should follow the InstallShield uninstall procedure:
  • Click on Start Menu
  • Select the Control Panel
  • Select Add or Remove Programs
  • Select BRCM 802.11 Wireless Card (or your proper device string from the .inf file)
  • Select Change/Remove
  • Select OK
• When installing in a system that has never run the driver before, simply use the normal driver installation once the hardware is detected.
• There are some special instructions to be followed to obtain passing WHQL results:
  • When running WHQL tests, be sure to remove the Tray Applet.
  • As per MSFT WHQL guidelines, warnings will not prevent attaining a logo.
