No agency alone has the ability to handle all of the complaints received involving these types of companies based in California. Thus, a task force has been created which involves many state, federal and local law enforcement agencies. These agencies assist each other in bringing criminal and civil actions.
The task force and the Attorney General's office are prohibited by law from representing individual members of the public who are attempting to recover lost funds. We analyze complaints with other comparable inquiries to determine what law enforcement action, if any, is warranted. When an action is filed, it is filed in the name of either the State of California, or when filed by a federal agency, in the name of the United States, against the firm and/or individual accused of violating the law.
