INTRODUCTION

Crime as Reported by Selected California Agencies, 1995 and 1996 is a special statistical report based on preliminary crime data for the first nine months of 1996 compared to the same period in 1995. Comparisons are based on percent change in number. Data are reported by agencies serving populations of 100,000 or more.

The following table displays the total number of crimes reported by 69 agencies for the first nine months of 1996 compared to the same period in 1995. These agencies were selected because they serve populations of 100,000 or more and because preliminary data were available for the first nine months of 1996 as of January 6, 1997.

Number of agencies included: 69
  • Agencies accounted for 58.1 percent of the 1995 population.
  • Agencies accounted for 63.2 percent of the 1995 California Crime Index offenses.
