C. George Deukmeijian, 27th Attorney General

Born in Menands, NY, on June 6, 1928. Deukmejian established the legal
Opinion Unit, School Safety Center, California Crime Watch prevention
program, the Appellate Action Group for criminal cases, a computerized
index of consumer complaints and a campaign to eradicate California
marijuana fields. In 1980, he launched a pilot program to test the capabilities
of latent print cold search technology (Automated Latent Print System
“ALPS”) - a computerized system used to identify criminal suspects by comparing
fingerprints. He also successfully argued cases before the California Supreme Court
to uphold the “use-a-gun go to prison” and death penalty laws. Following his tenure
as Attorney General, he was elected Governor. |
